NFCC***San Francisco at Philadelphia*** (-2.5, 46). Eagles 31-7 (2 Viewers)

Eagles will blow out the Niners. this is the same Niners team that was spanked by KC just a few weeks ago are they really different now?
Shanahan will be conservative and Siriani will be balls to the wall with the play calling.
I see no way possible for SF to win this game. Oh they'll score 21 pts alright, but Eagles will score 35 or more. I don't believe in that 'vaunted' SF defense. I don't think they have a snowball's chance in hell in this one. no way, no how
How many games in a row does this make for you picking against the 49ers now? I’ve lost count. Which apparently I’m not the only one having problems with that if you think the loss to the Chiefs came “a few weeks ago”. Their record was 3-4 back then. If you think things are exactly the same with this team then you might have missed the part where they’ve won 12 in a row since then. Thinking the Niners will lose is one thing. Hell, I’ve got the Eagles winning this one too, but your take is rubbish (or tolling) at best.

2019
Oklahoma- 42
Iowa St.- 41

Jalen Hurts 5 touchdowns. 3 passing. 2 rushing. In the first half.
Brock Purdy 6 touchdowns. 5 passing 1 rushing.

Iowa St. went for 2 points after their last touchdown and Purdy was intercepted.

Nick Saban connection. Of course Hurts played for him.
Purdy visited Alabama. Saban told him he was too short, his arm strength wasn't good, and he wasn't athletic enough for Alabama.

Just some interesting "stuff" before Sunday's second meeting between the two qb's.

Jalen Hurts, Brock Purdy had epic duel as college football stars in 2019

From the Eagles thread, it looks like Coach of the Year may riding on this game.
Source

AP Coach of the Year

  • Brian Daboll, Giants
  • Sean McDermott, Bills
  • Doug Pederson, Jaguars
  • Kyle Shanahan, 49ers
  • Nick Sirianni, Eagles

SF also gave up over 500 yards and 44 points to the Chiefs. Their defense is good, but it's not a shutdown defense like the Ravens and Bears back in the day. Stidham looked good and made several nice plays running ... imagine what Hurts can do.
Hurts ran all over them when they played last year, but SF managed to bend and not break. SF will have to repeat that performance. Hurts is better and has better weapons this year, but the SF secondary is improved too.
The bolded is my biggest concern.

If the 49ers can keep Philly to 2nd & 6, 3rd & 5, they should have some success.

It’s the 2nd & 2, 3rd & 1 situations where the 49ers will likely struggle to contain the Eagles. Those RPOs are deadly, and the 49ers have had problems with rushing QBs in short yardage situations. They struggle to find the football & know who to pursue.

It’s one of the biggest keys to the game, IMO.

I'm not trying to make Eagles fans cringe when I say this, but I just checked on ESPN.com and right now, Lane Johnson is listed as questionable for the game this Sunday. If he plays, he'll most likely be lined up against Nick Bosa. Hopefully, Jay Glazer will brighten spirits when he says that Lane Johnson is good to go.

Lane has an injury that if it were week 3 or 4, he'd have the surgery and try to be back by week 13 or 14. As it stands, he just has to deal with pain. A tremendous amount of it but he looked damn good last Saturday. He knows he's not 100% but he also knows his team needs him. The drop off from Lane to Driscoll is immense. I'd rather 80% Lane against Boss than any % Driscoll.

I was really impressed by the heart he showed last weekend. He was clearly hurting - seemed like after every play he either hobbled, grimaced, or grabbed at it.

That’s some Herculean effort by one tough SOB. Nothing but respect.

I won’t be surprised at all if Shanahan’s plan is to run the ball ~40x and try to slow this game way down. IIRC that’s what they did last year.

my biggest concern is the Niners win the toss, defer, and the Eagles march right down the field and score a TD.

That would feel so much deeper than an 0-7 hole.

Our Dline is better than their Dline.
Our Oline is better than their Oline.
Our QB is better than their QB.

We don’t turn the ball over we win, and I think we win by two scores. Eagles are simply a better team and I think Sirriani is a better game time coach.

Eagles win 27-17

And yes Lane is a key to this game. He’s a tough mother****er and last week looked great. Allowed no sacks, no pressures and no hurry ups.

That's one of the biggest talking points on PHI Sports Radio.

Bosa will try to bull rush and push Lane to have to work that core. Giants lined up with Dexter Lawrence over Lane a few times and Lane was able to hold him off. One of the talk radio guys, Ross Tucker, was basically saying that Lane being able to anticipate and hear during the snap count enable him to get into position well enough to not have to overextend his core.

I don't know if Bosa's as strong as Lawrence; but he's more explosive....so PHI might have to quickly switch a scheme to allow them to give Lane help.

Everyone's talking about Bosa but no one mentions Reddick.

NFL Sack Leaders
1. Bosa - 18.5
2. Reddick - 17.5

There is a reason why Purdy rolls out to left. My guess is the protection is better with Williams. Reddick is gonna hunt and be nipping at Purdy's heels all day long...
And the Eagles have 3 more players with 11 sacks each.

exactly. Reddick is competing with three other double digit sack guys and still finished with one total sack less than Bosa. Like I said above our Dline is straight nasty-no doubt the best that Purdy has faced this season.

I hope and pray that we lose the toss and you guys defer. I don't know for absolute certain, but I feel like Nick has NEVER elected to receive after winning the coin toss. He (and the Eagles in general) are one of the most Analytics oriented teams in the NFL and I KNOW that analytics tells us that deferring is the better choice, but man, getting the ball and marching down the field for a TD is such a statement in a game like this. Getting up early also chips away at their ability to do what you are suggesting (which I agree is the best way to beat us). If Purdy is forced to go punch for punch with Jalen I think we take it down.

May not mean much (or anything), but SF has played 2 games all year before 1pm Pacific time. A loss to Chicago and a loss to Atlanta.

EDT: Couple more interesting things:

- Niners have had 7 of their last 9 games at home. Only road games in that stretch were At Seattle (close game), and At Vegas (OT)

- During their 12-0 run, every single one of those 12 games have been played on the west coast.

It's wishful thinking on my part that this could be a factor, but mainly found it wild how often they've played at home lately. Only playing outside your home stadium 2 times since November 21st (10 weeks ago) seems crazy.

I feel like you're saying the same thing to me that I said, only longer. lol

These are definitely two of the cockiest fan bases in the NFL; neither QB has played in a game this big and both are going to have some serious butterflies out there. Purdy and Hurts have played the same number of playoff games in their career, as a neutral I'm going to be bummed to have to watch this on my phone while golfing as it's going to be a close *** game.

A few weeks ago?

More like 13 weeks ago (as they have won 12 straight since then)

Their defense was also banged up.

Plus they now have CMC (who only played on limited basis in that KC game) and a much better QB

Yeah completely the same team.

Fun fact ISU wins it if the receiver caught it. The DB made the best Defense play of the day there which isn't saying much about the Big12 to break it up. ISU should've won that game. Purdy had the better overall game where Hurts did most of his damage in the first half. OU almost blew the game and I believe there was a missed call too that would've helped ISU

The ironic thing about those stats is most of the year Eagles have done their damage in the first half and been quite during the second half. If the Eagles can't play a whole 4QTRS of football offensively I think this could get ugly in the 2nd half for the Eagles.

Thought I'd miss most of the game at work but now I'm out by 5 so most of the 2nd half then? Not feeling confident about this. SF has a very athletic defense and great athletic high football IQ LB's haven't faced all year. I think their LB group is very underrated at times. A lot of folks projecting the Eagles to win at home NFC title game favorites, An unknown QB3 from the other side, I've seen this far too often and we end up choking it away. Either bad coaching, QB play or some nobody comes out of no where and plays like a HOFer.

I just hope for a good game. All I wanted from the Eagles this year is win a playoff game they did it was against the D2 team of the NFL but still they won. Thats all I wanted. This is the Eagles toughest match up all year. For me they are playing with house money this year. Who knows how this team will look next year with all the impending FA.s

In the cosmic scale of the sports universe, San Fran owes us some balancing out for freaking Cody Ross.
Loved that 2010 Giants team. So many oddballs on that team but so good. Best of the 3 title teams.

Yeah, those 2 bombs set the tone for the series. Phillies were loaded

These are hands down the two best teams in the NFC. Jalen Hurts is a finalist for MVP. Why wouldn't we be cocky.

Interesting tidbit for your consideration. One of the arguments about Purdy's success is that there is not a lot of tape on him so its difficult for defensive coordinators to key in on his faults. Eagles' Asst. Defensive Backs coach, DK MCDonald and Defensive Assistant Tyler Scudder were BOTH defense coaches at Iowa State during Purdy's tenure there. If anyone know his weaknesses, its those two guys.

Dallas gave them plenty of tape. Brock was a dropped INT away from a bad game.

I just read the thread and probably liked 20 posts, you guys brought a mountain of stats to back up your points, one of the best things about the SP.

That being said, as a Panthers/Lions/Bengals/Steelers/Tarheels fan I am going with:

Niners 38
Eagles 35

Mostly because I like the Niners and don't like the Eagles.

I see Aiyuk scoring an early TD then disappearing, CMC with 1 rushing and 1 receiving, Deebo with a 50 yard video game TD, and a defense tipped ball pick 6. Hurts runs 2 in and tosses 2 to AJB, Sanders gets a rushing TD.

My predictions are 0-infinity this season so congrats to all the Eagles fans here you get to be Burrow's ***** in 2 weeks.

Time for predictions I guess.

The first half to me is really going to dictate how this one goes. Eagles go up big earlier and I find it hard for the Niners to come all the way back. If the Niners keep it close and control the clock, it will go down to the wire. Points will be at a premium for both sides. Whoever executes the best wins here.

When it comes down to it, Niners have some superstars on their team (CMC, Bosa, Warner) but the Eagles have an overall better roster and a far better QB right now. I think it's a tough hard fought game but in the end, the eagles are victorious.

26-18 Eagles

Your departure from reality is slightly more succinct than @DJackson10
