NFL Suspends McKinnie for 4 Games (1 Viewer)

As reported by Sirius Radio the NFL has suspended LT Bryant McKinnie for the first 4 games of the NFL season.

Looking ahead at the schedule the new LT has to look forward to: Aaron Kampman, Dwight Freeney, Julius Peppers and Kyle Vanden Bosch in the first 4 weeks.

How does this move Jackson, Peterson and WR's in your draft rankings if at all?

Moves my thoughts on the Vikings winning the division and making the playoffs down. ADP is the only offensive stud in the system, he likely drops about 25% of his production for at least the 4 games.

It's only 1/4 of the season so I wouldn't necessary make any major decisions off that like taking Westbrook/Addai/Jackson/ over AD or staying away from Sidney Rice or anything like that. For all we know the rest will do him and (subsequently Vikings players) good down the stretch of the season. This isn't a huge deal to me.

I don't think it changes anyones rankings. Hopefully the guy can clean his act up. I'm sure they knew this was coming, at least I did.

I'm asking because I honestly don't know, but are those four players you mentioned more of a threat to the passing game or running game? If they're aggressive pass rushers content to blow by the tackle on the way to the QB, it may be something Peterson and the Vikings could take advantage of. However, if they're also stout against the run, it would have a greater impact.

Freeney and Peppers usually blow past McKinnie anyhow, so that game plan won't change. I thought Kampman usually lined up on the opposite side, but I might be wrong. Don't know anything abouth Vanden Bosch.

I thought peppers did also

I think he did a couple years ago because he was so successful against Cook, but he goes wherever he wants I think.

Never mind, he is switching this year...

In his first comments to the media since last year, Peppers said he feels better than ever and is optimistic about his move to right defensive end, where he played in high school and college. He played left end in his first six NFL seasons.

"I'm comfortable over there on the right side," Peppers said. "The left-handed stance [needed on the right] is my natural stance. The left hand is my strong hand. So I have a lot more moves and power available to that side."

I still haven't seen this covered anywhere else. I was hoping that McKinnie wouldn't face a 2 game or 4 game suspension until after his trial which has been pushed back a few times now. The early games against the defenders listed will be harder without him in the lineup, but it doesn't spell doom for Peterson. Jackson will certainly be testing all he's learned this offseason and it would be best for him to have the best frontage supporting him during those games.

How can losing the left tackle (arguably the most important position on the line) not affect your rankings.

This will hurt the passing game (which already sucked) as well as the running game.

Well, it could depend on who will replace him for those four games and how much they'll need him for the first four games of the season. I don't know who their back-up LT is, but if he's adequate and can hold up in the run game, the impact can be fairly minimal for four games.

is there a link to confirm this?
I'm not hearing anything here in Minnesota on the radio, and I can't find a link in google. This should be big news.
besides a couple message boards saying the same thing that was posted here, it no where to be found.
I heard this on Siruis last night...not that it is concrete, but I did hear this from the source itself on Sirius.
I believe ya but this should be HUGE news on KFAN here in the cities if it were true.

Who reported it on Sirius Radio? Sirius Radio is just a platform. There are shows and personalities on Sirius that talk about/report stuff all the time. So who reported it?

My guess is that this is total message board rumor made up by somebody without anything to back it up. I seriously doubt that it was ever said by anybody on Sirius.

Report: McKinnie likely to get four games

August 14th, 2008 - 3:38 PM by Judd Zulgad

MANKATO - Vikings left tackle Bryant McKinnie had little reaction this afternoon to a report by Sirius NFL Radio that he is likely to be suspended for four games for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

"I don't know about that," McKinnie said as he walked off the practice field. McKinnie is subject to possible disciplinary action by the NFL as a repeat offender of the league's conduct policy. He met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in early June.

Although we don't get Sirius NFL Radio here in Mankato, a reader put a comment on an earlier Access Vikings blog about the report. We checked with a spokesman from Sirius and he confirmed the station has been reporting the McKinnie information on its updates.

McKinnie's latest off-the-field incident occured in February when he got into a brawl outside a Miami nightclub. He faces four charges from that incident, including one felony. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 24 in Miami-Dade County Court.

A Vikings official said the team can't comment on the matter and that any statement would have to come from the NFL. We're awaiting a return e-mail on the matter from the league.

UPDATE: An NFL spokesman responded to our e-mail saying the report by Sirius is speculation and that the league has made no announcements.
I have no doubt that he's going to get punished at some point, I just don't think they're through figuring out how harsh or lenient they are going to be.
