Not so fast - Josh McDaniels backed out of the Colts job (1 Viewer)

I honestly don’t blame mcdaniels. I’m of the school of thought that luck will never fully return to form. That franchise is a dumpster fire. If Kraft threw him a bucket of cash, he’s dumb to not make another title run or two.
Doesn't this impugn his character and authority even inside the N.E. locker room.  Players know a punk ### ##### when they see one.

This is not a defense of McDaniels but anyone who thinks most of these Owners have not cut the nads off of many people to get where they are are naïve...just like signing a player who does off-field nonsense most of these owners will hire someone they think gives them the best chance to win for them regardless of their past...if this were college ball people would be yawning as those guys jump ship all the time...McDaniel screwed the Colts (which I could care less about...the Assistant part is pretty gross)  and will take heat for it as he should but if he thinks this is the best thing for him he should do it (just like when Parcells screwed the Pats) and live with the consquences...that is the cold, hard reality of the real world...

I’m not an “I told you so” guy, but in this case...

Colts get a huge break as McDaniels again displays how professional he is.  Hasn’t changed one iota from his days in DEN.
Let's not be too harsh here.  In Denver he did institute the Patriot way of trying to violate league rules by wrongfully filming other team's practices.  He then held his team for 6 games before losing them completely.  He also saw something in Tebow that convinced him he should be a franchise Q.B.  I think that resume, coupled with backing out on his word here and screwing assistants around the league will stand him in good stead.

Anyone that is upset about McDaniels ditching the Colts is just naive.  We all knew who McDaniels was quite some time ago.  "You knew I was a snake before you took me in".

:goodposting:

A scorpion asks a frog to carry it across a river. The frog hesitates, afraid of being stung, but the scorpion argues that if it did so, they would both drown. Considering this, the frog agrees, but midway across the river the scorpion does indeed sting the frog, dooming them both. When the frog asks the scorpion why, the scorpion replies, "I'm a scorpion. That's what I do."

Irsay, Kraft, Belichick, McDaniels, Brady.

Ugggh.  No white hats here.

I think the only winners here are the haters.

The Colts success in the near future depends on when Luck returns.  McDaniels is the least of the Colts problems until a healthy Luck is on the field.

The discipline thing is made up.  This is between BB and Butler, and Brady supports Butler.  There is a growing rift between Belichick and the rest of the team, including the owners.  Belichick has 1 more year at most in New England which is why McDaniel left Indy at the altar.  He knows he's next up which was promised to him by Kraft and isn't going to sit around for several years.  Belichick will either leave this off season or next, guaranteed.

Hearing Patricia is having second thoughts and the Lions are on the verge of cancelling their press conference today to announce him as their next coach.

Bunch of related stuff from NFL Trade Rumors, take it for what it's worth.

Mike Garafolo reports that McDaniels and the Patriots agreed to tweak his contract, which will pay him more money to remain New England’s offensive coordinator, but obviously far less than he would have received from the Colts.

According to Garafolo, the prevailing assumption is that McDaniels made the move because he will be the coach-in-waiting behind Bill Belichick. However, Garafolo says that there’s no written agreement in place with the Patriots that he will take over for Belichick once he’s ready to retire.

Interestingly enough, McDaniels is represented by the same agent, Bob Lamonte, as Colts GMChris Ballard. Garafolo reported Wednesday morning that Lamonte told him that he was making “perhaps the biggest professional mistake of his career by backing out of this Colts job at this point.”

Peter King reports that while there is no wording in McDaniels contract with the Patriots to be their next head coach, it’s still considered “likely.”

King writes that McDaniels felt more comfortable staying in New England than he did taking the Colts’ job, particularly after hearing pitches from Robert Kraft and Belichick.

King’s source said McDaniels felt better about the Patriots’ structure and long-term prospects than about Indy’s, even with Tom Brady playing next season at 41.

Josina Anderson, citing a source families with the situation, reports that McDaniels spoke with all of his would-be assistants if he joined the Colts’ staff and that he spoke to them, “shortly after [talking to] Indy.”

When the Pats hire him as their next coach and he performs like he did in Denver, the Colts will be laughing at the Patriots and Josh McDaniels.
You guys are going to look pretty silly laughing while still in the cellar looking up at New England. ;)

Brady showing support for his teammate on his way out is what good teammates do, and it's silly to infer that as Brady taking sides against Belichick.

Regarding the bolded... since it's guaranteed, you down to make a wager? I'm willing to go $500 that Belichick is with the Patriots when training camp opens in 2019.

Please please please let McDaniels take over for BB in the very near future.  This would right a whole lot of wrongs, not to mention providing great joy to millions.

Everyone associated with this franchise is so skeevy. The whole organization is dirty top to bottom. Count your blessings Indy, you don't want this clown.

As coach or maybe he takes a front office advisory role?

Andrew Luck: “Welcome to Indy, coach.”

*Struggles to raise arm to shake hands*

Josh McDaniels: “I’m out!”

Interesting because Diane Russini tweeted out last night close to 9 PM that she spoke with several members of what was to be his staff in Indy and at that time they still have not heard from McDaniels. At 9 PM last night.

So the Pats' fans that are always so defensive when some one accuses the organization of being classless, dishonorable cheaters are actually embracing this image now (not all of them to be fair)? If so, good for you - it's about time - but just try and be consistent about it.

Just came across clarification on this. Apparently he did call the assistants who actually signed contracts, not the one's he was just in discussions with.

Colts GM Chris Ballard confirmed Matt Eberflus will be the team's defensive coordinator despite Josh McDaniels backing out on his agreement as head coach.
I guess that rules out a defensive minded HC. I guess they could have a candidate meet with Eberflus to see if they hit it off before any decisions are made. My guess if they would just eat the rest of the assistant contracts if there was a HC candidate they really liked that was against keeping them in place.

It's not ideal, but it could still work out.

:lmao:  at all posters in here saying he will never be a HC again and acting like they know what 31 other billionaire owners are thinking.

:lmao: :lmao:  at every one else saying they know McDaniels will be a bad HC again. Yes, he sucked in Denver and he might stink again, but there are so many 2nd and 3rd time He's that do way better the next time. Belicheck and Carroll for example.

While no one should speak in absolutes, I would imagine most owners would like to consider the character of their HC, and this speaks very negatively towards McDaniel's character. If he had any doubts as to taking the job, after he agreed to do so, he needed to let the Colts know that - not string them along for four-five weeks. He put their organization behind all the rest of the teams. He also left the assistants he hired behind.

Would you agree with that?

As far as him being a good HC or not, I totally agree with that. Guys have failed at one place and have taken advantage of a second chance so maybe he would have.

Right? The "spurned lover" backlash is hysterical in here. While I would never actually wish this on Luck, as he's a great kid.... it would be somewhat karmic for Colt's fans to find out McDaniels backed out after getting a bad update on Luck's prognosis.

Clarifying... I would never wish this on Luck, but IF that was what caused him to back out... the inevitable fans refusal to packpedal on judgement of McDaniels in light of that nose would be entertaining to watch.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and mine is unless he one days gets the NE HC job he'll never get one so give me a :lmao: all you want, but it's how I think it's going down.

Sure, but it isn't like he is interviewing tomorrow. It might hurt if he goes for a HC spot next year, but 3 to 5 years from now I doubt it does.

He didn't get close to a HC job since leaving Denver because most clubs were hesitant to hire him based on the debacle of his stint there: Mismanaging the team, ethical issues with video spying, treating players like HS kids, creating a toxic atmosphere and a divided locker room w/ his ever present spies and his "You're with me or you're against me attitude"

Now, with this on top of it, particularly shafting the ACs who bought his sales pitch and then had the rug pulled out from under them, he will never see a HC job outside of NE IMO.
