I like both but they are so different I don't know why people obsess about comparing them.

Seriously why does anyone care? They're both delicious.

I think Chicagoans are on the hunt to find something in which they are superior now that they no longer have the tallest building.

Is there any good Chicago style pizza in California?

I went to this place in Santa Clara that supposedly specialized in it (Paxti's) and it was a horrible knockoff. The crust was unacceptable.

If you have to eat it with a fork, it's not pizza.
I've never eaten pizza with a fork and I've had thousands of slices of pizza.

Also, this is a stupid argument that I'm sick of hearing. Just because I eat my Snickers with a knife and fork doesnt mean it's not a candy bar.

If there isn't one in Chicago I don't know why you think there might be one in California.

Zachary's. Original location in Oakland, now also in Berkeley, Pleasant Hill, and San Ramon. I've only been to the one in Oakland. It's pretty good.

It seems to me that the New Yorkers are the ones really pushing the "Our pizza is the best" thing and not the other way around.

Had Little Star last time I was in SF. It was pretty decent.

Yeah, also good. Zach's notches it for me, but it's close.

NY will win this walking away based on rep. But Chicago Pizza is so much better. Gimme an oily hot deep dish piled full of cheese and ingredients over some taste that comes from the water to make the dough taste slightly different.

You should probably go watch the Jon Stewart clip that led to the thread bump.
That would make change his mind how?
Because Stewart is responding to a weird local Chicago news item on the taller buildings where they get all defensive and talk about how their food/pizza is still better

Is that guy posting in this thread?

Lester Holt on the Today Show (shot in NY) saying Chicago pizza is "quite good"? Yeah, that's not helping your case.

No, the presumably local NBC footage that precedes it where they comfort Chicagoans by saying they still have better food and whatnot with a shot of a deep dish pizza.

Are we really having this dumb conversation? Come on. Even if NY pizza fans are the ones bragging on their pizza more, there's a reason for it. It's the same reason a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model is prouder of her body than Rosie O'Donnell. One is great, the other is repulsive .

All of my life I would have said NY pizza, but after visiting Chicago last summer, I gotta go Chicago pizza. Had no idea it was so tasty.

FYI, this New Yorker still loves both. As noted they are different dishes. I could eat a good slice of ny pizza just about everyday. I can't the same for Chicago Style. But when I do have chi style it's a huge treat and awesome. Nothing like the full sausage patties at the base of a genes east. I don't give a #### where you are from, if you don't like that #### hand in your man card.

Just like fools talking about how ny style shouldn't be folded. Or how even some self professed chi-lovers dont seem to understand the difference between deep dish and stuffed pizza.

Lotta ignorance in this thread. Then again, it is the FFA.

Holding up a flimsy slice of NY-style pizza: "we had someone fax this to us in NY". :lmao:
I will admit there are few things as bad as NY "style" pizza. A NY pie or a slice is awesome, NY style usually means enhanced white bread, catsup and grated fake matzah-rella.

This.

I live in chicago and only eat the Deep Dish two or three times per year and usually they are company-related lunches. Any time I order delivery or go out, it's Piece pizza or any place that has thin crust.

Piece is awesome.

This is me too. Piece is awesome.

I watch Stewart pretty much daily, saw the clip and figured this thread would get bumped. A guy said "Deep dish pizza is quite good" that was the statement that set Jon off.

Great rant, no doubt, but he seems more than a little defensive to me.

If you have to fold your slice in half, it's a sandwich.
Did Stewart fold his slice in half at the end of his clip?
yes he did. That's how the freaks in NY eat it.
It's so you can eat a slice on the go. NYC is all about TCB. It also tastes better folded. I don't know why, just like I don't know why some wines taste different depending upon what glass you put them in.

My wife, who lives to be iconoclastic, folds her slices the other way - tip of the slice up to the middle of the crust. Now THAT'S how a freak eats pizza. She may be the only human being alive to do this regularly.

That's not defensive. That's Jewish. It's our natural state.
