Wow you people don't eat fast food out in the corn basket, didn't realize that. My bad.
It's just that you can't walk half a block in NYC without tripping over a decent pizza place. Seems wrong to order Dominoes.
It doesn't seem wrong, it is wrong.
I'll be wrong every once in a while for a large 2-topping pizza for $5.99.
:goodposting:

I'm not gonna lie. I do it.
Sure I have grabbed a deal along the way as well. That 2 medium two topping deal is hard to beat for work lunches. Of course Charlotte isn't exactly NYC when it comes to pizza.

I was in Manhattan two Summers ago and had some pizza. It was ####### awesome.

I was in Chicago this past Summer and had Lou Malnati's for the first time. It was ####### awesome.

Yep. There is good pizza in both cities. I live in Chicago and deep dish is a once in a time kinda thing for me. Mostly do thin, and there are plenty of great thins in Chicago.

Was in Chicago less than a month ago, that Chicago deep dish stuff is horrible, just awful. Mozzarella cheese doesn't have a lot of favor to begin with but bury it way down under everything and it really is just melted ####, like my cheese to have a nice golden brown look and at least be cooked thru.

We did have a really nice pizza at a place in Wicker Park called Piece, owned by one of the Cheap Trick members. Delicious pie but it wasn't deep dish, more the thin kind.

NY style pizza much better IMHO. Like to fold it over and bite down.

Now that the pizzamathmagician has weighed in, I think we can lock this one up. Someone get Rudnicki in here.

MOP is just scared about how the height of a Chicago deep dish pizza will affect his pizza calculations. He's already got his hands full with 2-dimensional pizza.

other than LHUCKS and maybe GUNZ, who else would want less to be on your side?

I'm not even a big Chicago pizza guy. I just hate the act of folding a delicious slice of pizza in half.

Until you've eaten at Spumoni Gardens, your opinion is incomplete - Unfortunately for most visitors, it's way out in Bensonhurst and most don't get out there... The video is from Man vs Food & it gives you an idea of why it's different.
I saw that episode. What is there to get? Pizza is about a lot of things - but the key is the crust. If I wanted an inch of doughy nothingness above my crust I would get a cheap loaf of french bread. That side view shot of their pizza at the 51 second point tells the story. And what is with the scant toppings??? Does the guy have to milk the cows and make the cheese himself?? Geezus - we got more in our ####### Chefboyardee box pizza mixes. Don't get me wrong ...too much on the topping kills the crust, but that is ridiculous.

This looks like a worse idea than the thick crust casserole.

Yeah, that looks worse than either Chicago or NY style. Who wants all of that bread?

one of the former owners stole their recipe and opened up a place right by me in SI called The Square!
My SIL lived in Midland before Sandy, I love the square!

Yup, only one of the most famous and top rated pizza places on Earth bc it is a dough bomb that tastes like Chefboyardee.

I really am shocked how long that one has stayed with me here. Somewhere on my tombstone this will be added as a gentle reminder.

There was a terrific pizza place for a long time in Tampa called Windy City, Premier might remember it. Was really good deep dish pizza but it had cheese on top not underneath, delicious. Unfortunately the recession got the best of it but I do like deep dish just not the "Chicago" way.

Ordered pizza tonight as it was a washout tonight in Miami, wife decides as I am finishing paying the pizza guy and closing the door that we had coupons for this place…yeah.

NYers that swear by this pizza need to be glove slapped to tears and then abused with a basil-rubbed pepperoni until they come to their senses.

I think you need to eat it before you make these types of comments.

Chicago has a habit of this kind of stuff.

Chicago trys to pass ribs slathered in sauce and cooked in an oven off as "barbecue".

I have nothing against them, they taste pretty good, but oven-baked ribs with a bunch of sticky gunk on them aren't barbecue.

Gonna have some nice Grimaldi's pizza tomorrow night....I'M EXCITED!
I think Lucali's dominates Grimaldis.Grimaldis still delicious though.
Never heard of them. I'm just happy that I have some solid chains near me (Grimaldi's, Bellacino's, Jet's.).
I've only eaten at Grimaldis in BK Heights and on 6th ave. Lucali's is in Carroll Gardens, number 1 rated pizza in NYC according to Zagat. Calzone is top notch too.http://www.zagat.com/r/lucali-new-york

Sometimes, I just want a cheap, fast pizza delivered. People might think every corner of Chicago has excellent pizzerias with cheap pizza delivery, but it's not the case. While there are excellent pizza options nearby (including my favorite deep dish in the city), they're not cheap, and often the wait is an hour or more for delivery.

I know that poor ******* at Dominos will get to my place in 20 minutes or so and I'll be out $15 bucks, if that. I usually order it when it's late and I'm on my way home from the airport. No complaints.

I don't think Bagels deserve their own thread, but can we all admit NY is above and beyond the best for them?
Where's your go to?

I think the vast majority of NYC bagels are incredibly overrated. They've gotten smaller and denser over time and the density is the big issue. Blast me all you want, but there are places in Jersey that do a much better job giving you the crispy exterior and the soft, fluffy interior.

I like 'em both. I will say NY Pizza is just a stupid name for oversized thin crust pizza. I've spent a lot of time in NYC, and it's no different than good thin, oversized pizza elsewhere in the country. It's like the Philly morons claiming no good cheesesteak exists anywhere else. I guess they don't have the ability to make fresh rolls and chop up ribeye anywhere else in the world?

Valid point. But you know it's fun to tweak Otis a bit.
