(KFFL) NFL commissioner Roger Goodell informed the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, April 21, LB Odell Thurman has been officially reinstated from a league-imposed suspension. Head coach Marvin Lewis said Thurman was added to the team's offseason roster.

ESPN Story

After missing the last two seasons due to substances abuse problems, the NFL is expected to reinstate Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman, according to a published report.

Sources told the Cincinnati Enquirer on Monday that the Bengals will make an official announcement later Monday. Thurman last played in the NFL in 2005 after repeated violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Sure would like to see him get back to form. Dude has a ton of potential. Especially with Fitzgerald as the new LB coach.

Did he have "destructive" substance abuse issues or was he on HGH or 'roids. if it is the former (like pot or Coke), I think this was a little bit of a harsh penalty and he deserves a chance to get back on the field.

Only thing that was public was a DUI. Maybe pot before he came into the league, but my memory is fading on that.By all accounts the Bengals got hosed on this one. There has to be something more to the story. Jared Allen has like 4 DUI's and only got a 4 gamer.

The rumors were crystal meth.

And lest anyone thing I'm just Bengal bashing, I work with a die-hard UGA fan and he said there were rumors about Odell and meth going back to when he was in college.

He was facing a months suspension coming into the 2006 season, but got popped for DUI. Just following his 2007 meeting with Goodell, he was commended by the judge for the steps he was taking to deal with his alcoholism. The judge also criticized the league for its lack of support and hypocrisy.

Basically just another ####up by commissioner McMahon.

I'll vouch for you. Heard the same, though the sources suggested that Thurman had dropped a significant amount of weight as well, which proved not to be the case. Here's hoping he's put his life together and can bring an identity back to this defense.

No doubt the Bengals D would be much improved with a healthy / motivated Thurman.

It had to be something else... Jared Allen gets 2 DUIs and get's his 4 game suspension reduced to 2. Odell's was 2 years. Now imagine Odell is white. :banned:

:banned: I'm not buying it. - He got suspended for a failed drug test for the first 4 games in 2006.

- He then got arrested and then suspended for the entire 2006 season.

- In June of 2007 he was charged in connection to an assault. Charges were later dropped due to an unknown settlement.

- In July of 2007 Goodell denies reinstatement. Thurman missed 2007 season.

The bottom line is Odell didn't keep his nose clean during his suspension.

Really the harsh suspension is probably the best thing that could have happened to him. This was a clear wake up call for Odell. If he learned his lesson, works hard and keeps his nose clean he should send a nice Thank You card to the NFL.

Well, hopefully he keeps it together. That said, I'd like to see an LB in our first 3 picks. If he's back in form it'll make a huge difference on defense. Gotta keep my fingers crossed on this one.

And why would I think Ahrn was Bengals bashing? :lmao:

Die-hard UGA fan here (not the same one) and Odell was a discipline case all through college. Trash talker on the field, always getting into minor trouble, think he sold pot at some point (maybe tween college and pros). Anyway, glad he's getting another chance because dude is a beast on the field.
