It's the official "we didn't do jack at the trade deadline so we need to do something to spark a team with an outside shot at the WC" move. I don't see it as a positive or negative at this point. No thoughts on the dumping of the pitching coaches? I mean they had **** to work with.
Did you miss my great "Welcome Andy Hawkins" speech? What the #### is Pudge Rodriguez doing playing for the Yankees? And why is the fat guy from the Twins pitching to him?No thoughts on the dumping of the pitching coaches? I mean they had **** to work with.
Whatever you do, don't watch the shot of that tired old ####er in the crowd after the highlight ends. It will make you sad.Im just watching Nolan whip Ventura's #### over and over again. I may never know who wins tonight.
:nods:bloody pants says higood evening gents.Five over. First time this year, right?
agreed. Makes me very sad.Things I liked about the celebration:Byrd doing The Bird with the crowd. High-fiveing the fans.Kinsler playing the role of captain and dumping the ice on Byrd, leading the dogpile. Kinsler=Morrow.Things I didn't like about the celebration:Can we get guys on the DL NOT to be right in the middle leaping up and down. Eric Hurley I'm looking at you.Salty showing how white he is doing the funky handshake/dance with Byrd. Do those two even deserve a funky handshake/dance?Whatever you do, don't watch the shot of that tired old ####er in the crowd after the highlight ends. Nearly hit the cycle. I take a few weeks off to handle some crap and the team goes to theNelson Cruz called up tonight. Not sure how much playing time he will get, but they will want to take a look.
If they can get anything for Millwood and Padilla I do it. This pitching staff really needs to be blown up from the top to bottom. I am starting to worry for '09. I really don't want to think it might be 2010 before we get arms to go with the bats.Nearly hit the cycle. Too bad you never had guys like Edinson Volquez or John Danks. You could build a rotation around those two.I really, really want to be excited for all the potential firepower this team can put out on the field every day next year, but if we can't get anyone to throw the ball, its all for nothing.
yeah, yeah.I still take Hamilton over EV. Danks I wish we had.Ryan will have a lot of say this offseason. I will be very surprised if Daniels and Washington are not gone soon.Too bad you never had guys like Edinson Volquez or John Danks. You could build a rotation around those two.I really, really want to be excited for all the potential firepower this team can put out on the field every day next year, but if we can't get anyone to throw the ball, its all for nothing.
I don't normally stop to post in here, but this comment got me....Let's look at some of the positives1) Chris Davis2) Marlon Byrd3) Milton Bradley4) obviously Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler and Micahel Young are a great core for this team5) more quality and quantity at C than any other team - yes they will trade one (maybe two) teams are already calling them6) Millwood is a true competitor - pitched well on several occasions and on others battled without his best stuff7) Most importantly to me was several of the young pitchers having at least SOME success IN Arlington. It should be pretty simple to change some of the attitudes about pitching there - NOT for recruiting some more ridiculous signings but developing the very good arms they have now in the system - if you follow their minor league teams you know some of the pitchers I mean - and they drafted some more good ones this year. Unless someone has a brain cramp and trades for Padilla, the rotation next year should be Millwood and Padilla AND hopefully three of the young arms - I don't really care which ones, but right now you have to think that some of Harrison, Hurley, Nippert, McCarthy etc can build on the progress they made and be legitimate starters in 2009.AND btw.....there are tons of good arms in the pipeline as well as Borbon and eventually SmoakI just don't even know what to take away from this season. Still at a loss how it looked like everything was coming together and then to just get swallowed up whole like that. Went so fast from being fun to watch even with a snowball's chance of doing anything to being just wincingly bad in a matter of 2 weeks.
Really good questions.I will throw this one out that I have been thinking about for a while:Could we trade Mike Young, and if we could, should we?Here's the question I have.Who made a real big step forward this year?Who of those still has a ceiling higher than they hit this year? What would be not the 2009 rotation, but the 2010 rotation at this point? In what universe could this team compete with the Angels for a pennant in 09?
If it is possible for the Rangers to trade him they should. A lot of money to have tied up into him.Really good questions.I will throw this one out that I have been thinking about for a while:Could we trade Mike Young, and if we could, should we?Here's the question I have.Who made a real big step forward this year?Who of those still has a ceiling higher than they hit this year? What would be not the 2009 rotation, but the 2010 rotation at this point? In what universe could this team compete with the Angels for a pennant in 09?
There are about 80 million reasons over the next five years to do so.Don't get me wrong, I love Young, adore Young. Always been a huge fan. But that kind of money on a player that is playing out of position at this point and on the backside of his career just seems like the wrong move for the franchise.Tell me Why you guys would want to trade Michael Young?
Well the contract is not an issue - it's a Fact - and is the biggest reason why they would Not be able to trade him. Hicks had no problem paying him to be the face of the franchise (at the time) and will live with it, but no team acquiring him would be in love with it and give you value. He is still a good hitter in that lineup. I don't think Elvis Andrus is ready yet....though getting there, but even so they could move Young or just let him DH since they are not re-signing Bradley....or when Elvis is in the building (assuming Smoak is not ready) they could move Young to 1B and Davis to 3B. Bottom line is that Young is not likely going anywhere and is not among the things they need to fix. There are about 80 million reasons over the next five years to do so.Don't get me wrong, I love Young, adore Young. You are completely right. And I should not be so quick to shove him out the door, its not my money they are spending. Besides when this team is good, its going to be like Tampa Bay with a bunch of min contracts anyway.I love the fact that we can mention guys like Elvis, Smoak and Davis either being with the big club or really close to it.Side note: I like the Golson for Mayberry trade. Both guys are in similar spots in their careers: very toolsy, but not showing results. When you have two similar players and you get the middle of the defense guy over the corner guy, I think that is a win. Don't look now, but the Rangers depth at CF is getting very close to matching their depth at catcher.Well the contract is not an issue - it's a Fact - and is the biggest reason why they would Not be able to trade him. ICJ wilsonWhat does it take to get this guy a bus ticket to OKC?
Nice callback. The guy is so in the zone right now it is amazing. Really fun having a nice starting rotation for a change. Just didn't know it would include "8th inning oddball" Wilson, "Japan retread" Lewis and "drafted behind Beavan and Main so forgotten" Hunter.ICJ wilsonWhat does it take to get this guy a bus ticket to OKC?
