Spent too much at QB, RB, and defense.Nowhere near enough WR depth. You need to start 3-4 WRs. It is MUCH better to have 3 TEs than 3 QBs. I always try and spend the least amount of $$$ that I can at QB and still get 20+ points weekly.'jacobo_moses said:This is one I was toying around with for fun. Its a work in progress of course. Doug, any update on this? But hold on, that's not all. I'm about to release a beta version of an entirely different (additional) contest! No, make that 19 more contests throughout the season! Keep an eye on the Shark Pool for more info.
I find myself in this exact same boat. $25 is the absolute max I can see myself spending on any position. Once you get above that, it is too easy to break that money into multiple players and get a much stronger roster. However, there are some really nice "values" right around that $25 mark. I still haven't figured out how I want to play it yet.Every time I spend more than $25 on a RB, I eventually get rid of him for a cheaper player. Seems like there are far better deals to be had at WR and TE.
I tinker with my lineup every day, and RB is the position I find myself changing back and forth on the most.Every time I spend more than $25 on a RB, I eventually get rid of him for a cheaper player. Seems like there are far better deals to be had at WR and TE.
i have encountered the RB Week 5 bye issue on several lineup attempts.Am I the only one having Week 5 bye issues? It seems like all of the good 1-2 RB punch combos both have week 5 bye and I dont know if I want to risk having two studs at a position out, even if its that early.
I'm willing to spend between $25 and $30 on one WR - just because this contest favors WRs. But I even vacillate on that.I find myself in this exact same boat. $25 is the absolute max I can see myself spending on any position. I've had my QBs and TEs set for several days now. But for WRs and RBs, I'll likely change my lineup several times over the next couple of weeks.I tinker with my lineup every day, and RB is the position I find myself changing back and forth on the most.Every time I spend more than $25 on a RB, I eventually get rid of him for a cheaper player. I like this team. My team is similarly composed. I'm wondering about only having two QBs, though. I know this isn't uncommon. But I'd be too freaked out about losing one for the season and only having one score at that position every week.'Donsmith753 said:Tweaked again, lowered my spend at RB to improve my WR's.QB - Matthew Stafford - DET/9 - $18QB - Sam Bradford - STL/5 - $17RB - Mark Ingram - NO/11 - $26RB - Felix Jones - DAL/5 - $23RB - Chris Wells - ARI/6 - $16RB - Kendall Hunter - SF/7 - $6RB - Jason Snelling - ATL/8 - $6RB - Marion Barber - CHI/8 - $3WR - Larry Fitzgerald - ARI/6 - $28WR - Dez Bryant - DAL/5 - $21WR - James Jones - GB/8 - $9WR - Eddie Royal - DEN/6 - $7WR - Jordan Shipley - CIN/7 - $4WR - Harry Douglas - ATL/8 - $4WR - Antonio Brown - PIT/11 - $3WR - Riley Cooper - PHI/7 - $3WR - Denarius Moore - OAK/8 - $3TE - Jermichael Finley - GB/8 - $22TE - Greg Olsen - CAR/9 - $9TE - Lance Kendricks - STL/5 - $6PK - Ryan Succop - KC/6 - $3PK - Olindo Mare - CAR/9 - $2PK - Jay Feely - ARI/6 - $2PK - Phil Dawson - CLE/5 - $2TD - Arizona Cardinals - ARI/6 - $3TD - Buffalo Bills - BUF/7 - $2TD - Jacksonville Jaguars - JAX/9 - $2Total value: 250
Out of curiosity, are you entering your own projections into the DD or using FBG's projections?I have a theory that picking a team that projects well based on FBG's projections is probably a bad idea. The players were priced based on Dodds's projections and you are competing against 10K+ other FBG subscribers. The way to do well in this contest is to pick players that will significantly out-perform FBG's projections. In other words, you want to find the players Dodds is wrong about.'butcher boy said:Came up with a really, really, high week to week scoring team (according to DD) .... except for week 11, the final cutoff week.Bad idea, eh?It's by far my highest scoring team so far.
week 13 is the final cutoff week, not week 11if you load up on lots of week 11 players, good chance that's the week you're eliminatedOut of curiosity, are you entering your own projections into the DD or using FBG's projections?I have a theory that picking a team that projects well based on FBG's projections is probably a bad idea. I'm having almost the exact same issue, but it's with week 6 and WRs.All the wideouts I'd like to amass, including the cheap flier types, seem to have the same @#$#@! bye.Revision #1,000,003 coming up.'butcher boy said:Am I the only one having Week 5 bye issues? Week 5 isn't very late in the contest. I think you only need to be in the top 80% to move on that week. Obviously you don't want all of your studs out that week, but a couple of top players shouldn't knock you out if the rest of your team is decent. I'm looking at several of my better players being out in week 5, and I don't think it will be a problem. Week 9 is what is making me rethink things....'simey said:i have encountered the RB Week 5 bye issue on several lineup attempts.'butcher boy said:Am I the only one having Week 5 bye issues? Least1. BJGE - $19 for a guy with two hyped rookies?'HairySasquatch said:Ok, I'll play.
List the top 3 players you predict will be found on the LEAST amount of rosters (min. of $15)
1) C. Johnson ($38)- To many question marks on when he comes back. People worried about injury because of the holdout. Money better spent other places.
2) P. Hillis ($27)- Madden curse. And he wore down in the second half of last year. Would have to repeat last year's numbers to make this amount worth it.
3) R. Williams ($15)-![]()
4) S. Rice ($17)- Have you seen who is throwing to him? It's not pretty. Too many other options close to that price and many with lower amounts who will out produce Rice.
List the top 3 players you predict will be found on the MOST amount of rosters (min. of $15)
1) M. Manningham ($19)- I believe the price was set before S. Smith was traded which = discount. Best upside at that price target.
2) K. Kolb ($15)- Cheap price for a QB with upside. Cheaper than Stafford and Bradford
3) Tie: L. Fitzgerald ($28) V. Jackson ($25)- Both have many people thinking they are going to be the #1 WR by the end of the year. Both are a few dollars cheaper than the top four guys.
And now for the 3 players you predict will be found on the Most amount of rosters (no min. of $ amount)
1) D. Moore ($3)- Huge hype. Can't beat the upside for the price. Way too many threads talking about him not to be included on most rosters.
2) L. Kendricks ($6)- See above about Moore
3) J. Ringer ($3)- Taking a three dollar flyer that Johnson gets hurt and will become a work horse. Must have if you take Johnson for injury protection. Must have if you didn't draft Johnson for a cheap homerun chance.
Yeah, I was easily on pace for 35 or so. I've started to warm up to a few mid-range guys, though, so I'm right at 30. My RB total has gone from low-40s to $79.Roster limits suck
I know exactly what you mean, and that's why this process is so fascinating. If you have a small roster, all your players are studs - but with injury risks in a best ball format, you won't survive. And with larger rosters, you're simply guaranteed to have a position that's weak.Just submitted a roster of 26 players. Not happy with it at all, but I don't know what to change. I think I'm locked in on my QBs but everything else is kind of a mess. If I try upgrading my cheaper guys I feel like my roster is too small; but when I have a roster size I'm happy with, it's littered with likely duds.

I also find the domino effect interesting. I see a player I decide I want to add or drop, but then he's a little more than another player, what do I cut? Then there's a bye week issue (at one point I submitted a roster which had 5 WRs sharing a bye week :X ) then it's back to changing to account for that...Ironically, one or two of these guys could be the reason the team wins.List the top 3 players you predict will be found on the LEAST number of rosters (min. of $15)
Excluding injuries....
1) Greg Jennings - Priced with Fitz/Nicks/V Jackson, don't see his upside compared to those guys.
2) Ryan Mathews - Hes priced with S Jackson/Bradshaw/Best/Jones when he should probably be with F Jackson/Grant/Lynch
3) Kenny Britt - Mediocre QB situation, combined with 14 WRs within $2, I don't see the appeal.
There are some excellent boom/bust bargains in the $2 to $3 range at WR and RB.'glumpy said:Gawd I must be doing something wrong. I'm happy with the lineup. Still got $6 left--deciding which way to go. Upgrades? Adds? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.................
Love this contest--it's worth a second membership!!![]()
Only changed rosters 500000 times!
The hardest part for me is the talent balance between RB and WR. I don't think there's any obvious lineup that'll guarantee solid production all year, so it seems like the cheaper boom/bust players will be the key to any successful run.I know exactly what you mean, and that's why this process is so fascinating. Is this too much?Perhaps I need to look closer but I fail to understand why you would spend $18 on Stafford when his ceiling is probably what your base expectations are for a guy like Rivers. Is the $6 really worth that much more somewhere else?
Also, if you're going to go with non-stud, fragile QBs, you HAVE to take 3.
