You guys just wait. Chris Johnson will have an awesome game in the future to offset his week 1 dud, then I will :lmao: at all you math professers.
He very well could have an awesome game. But it will be unrelated, causally, to his poor week 1. The bad week 1 does not predict that he is due for an awesome week at some point.

I don't doubt for one second he will. And he'll have about 9 more turds, 3 OK games, and a couple more big games. And at the end of the season he'll be a top-15ish RB but have lots of worthless weeks along the way.

You look at it as predicting the future. I view it as travelling to the future and looking back at the past.

This group makes me want to puke.

Darren McFadden $26 24.80

Fred Jackson $21 1.50

David Wilson $9 0.40

Cedric Benson $3 1.80

Taiwan Jones $2 0.00

What the heck was I thinking not having a better backup plan than David Wilson & Cedric Benson.

Matt Ryan -think he can finish top 3 this year

Jake Locker -insurance and thnk he can be decent at times

Arian Foster -wanted two stud ppr backs

Darren McFadden -see foster, hopefully the year he finishes top 5

Peyton Hillis -thought he was good value after grabbing 2 studs

David Wilson -thought he could get some carries /catches, hopefully will rebound from week 1

Cedric Benson -thought he was good value for the $$

Taiwan Jones -mcfadden insurance

Julio Jones -wanted 3 good top WR, could finish WR1

Antonio Brown- good receiver looking for 80-1200-8

Torrey Smith -can have some huge games, think he can go 70-1100-8

Brandon LaFell - think he has a nice year (60-900-6, makes a nice flex play)

Steve Smith -cheap flyer, not encouraged by week 1

Josh Gordon -see smith

Devin Hester -see smith

Vernon Davis -wanted a top TE but didnt want to pay for the elite guys

Jared Cook -think he is under rated and could finish top 10

Lance Kendricks -flyer, think he is good for 50-500

Matt Prater

Shaun Suisham

Justin Medlock

Atlanta Falcons

New York Jets

New Orleans Saints
Quick, somebody PM BassnBrew--we have contest discussion!

3,329 teams or 24% have McFadden on their roster for $26. His injury history is why they got a discount for a possible top five RB. What I don't get is the lack of depth a lot of these teams have after McFadden. Many only have him and one other top 25 RB on their roster with the rest of their roster filled in with the same flyers everyone else has on their team (Benson, Royster, Mendenhall or Dwyer, and T. Jones).

This contest is not a good fit for McFadden. It will be interesting to watch how this one turns out. I could be wrong. But I'm happy to be "unique" by not having the second highest owned RB on my team. When McFadden goes down, it will be a lot easier for my team to survive....so thank you to all the McFadden owners. Thank you for helping to knock out some of the tough competition early on, then stepping to the side when he goes down.

Out of all the McFadden owners:275 have McFadden as their only top-24 RB GROUP A

1724 have McFadden and one other top-24 RB GROUP B

1208 have McFadden and two other top-24 RBs

83 have McFadden and three other top-24 RBs

1 has McFadden and four other top-24 RBs (this guy)
It's group A and group B that I think took to big of a risk.
I'm in group B. Every roster choice is a risk/gamble. Dmac made the cut because his potential for big games in the final few weeks at a discounted rate. Frankly, taking Foster or McCoy is just as big a risk. RB injuries are common.I backed up two $20ish RB selections with Leshoure (smells like a winner), Mendy, McCluster and Benson. Love McCluster's potential as a highly targeted slot option. He's a wild card like Vick was a couple years back.

Royster looked like pyrite. Time will tell.

Fred Jackson Willis McGahee Ryan Williams David Wilson Mikel Leshoure Cedric Benson Evan Royster MY RBs..... I'm in troubleThank goodness my genius $3 Ogletree move saved me for week 1 :football:
I think Wilson will be a key player for the $35k contest.I believe his playing time will steadily increase as the season goes on, with the ever present chance to score as a top 15 RB if Bradshaw misses time.

We'll be saying goodbye to 2300+ entries this week. Benson set a nice floor at RB for $3 for those who own him. Nelson, Crosby and GB defense probably put up double digits, otherwise there was a whole lot of nothing in this game, fantasy-wise.

Live(ish) scoring is now up and running. I'm running checks and updates every 10 minutes during the games.

http://ffltools.com/fbg35k/

This year you can enter your FBG team ID or Team Name, take a look and let me know if you have any questions. (the team name will be updated weekly once the final scores are released, so if you change/set it in between there, just use your team ID)

I am much much busier than I was in year's past when managing this, so if something is incorrect, please PM me here or at http://FFLTools.com, I will not be checking this thread as much as I'd like. Also, I was going to make it mandatory to charge for this service this year, but to be completely honest, I don't have the time to convert the code to require it.

I don't want to sound like I'm begging here, but if you use my site and it brings value to you in this contest, please consider donating from the links on http://ffltools.com. It takes quite a bit of time that is very thin for me to get this prepared for this contest. Grabbing and loading the teams, modifying the code to make it more user friendly and not to mention the costs to host the multiple servers needed to run a service like this. I'd appreciate any donations if you use it please. It will help to cover some of the costs of taking on a project like this.

Good luck to everyone, sorry it took so long to get the site ready this year :)

Mike

Thanks Mike, this is awesome and MUCH appreciated - I'll definitely be donating again this year.It looks like some DEF scores are off, FBGs had the Jets getting 20 pts last week while it's showing 8 pts on FFLTools. Ditto 7 vs 1 for the Saints D.

Thanks again

bu the way, where can i see last year's final standings?
http://subscribers.footballguys.com/contest/2011/week-16.phpI don't know if there's an easier way, but the way I did it is go to "articles - 2011 archives". Click on "p1" week. You'll get a "Not Found" page. Change the "2012" to "2011" and the "12" to "11" in the url. Look for "Contest Results" in the articles You can do that for any week in any year.
Last year was good for me 'til the finals. Rough week 14 tanked my chances and placed me a 215. Bittersweet memory. Nice run....no finish.

Has there been any week 2 projections put out yet? Or did I miss them in the 2+ pages of coin flips and dice rolls?
Not sure if DD wants me posting this and stealing his thunder, but this link seems to work...Week 2 Sim
That is pretty cool.... well it would be, but scrolling through 13000 names to find mine seems like it would take hours.
Ctrl+Fthen type in your name, or some of it.
Thanks. Love the sim. I look pretty safe this week. Especially with the Rogers/Cutler/Forte performances last night (none on my roster).

so much for not getting a chance to log in for a bit... guess my post got some traction.

overall I still stand by it. the reason being is Tds are very unpredictable and a finite quantity for a season.

Tds typically inflate a players weekly score to a 'good' weeks over 'bad' weeks in points. Some of the people in the posts even agree with me even though they don't see it. When they have their 20-15-5-20-15... type things. That '5' point week is a 'down' week...

You can see from the NFL history of stats, not everyone will score 20+ Tds/year. It is rare to get above 10 even for most players. So if a player scores 2 Tds in the first game, there is a very high probability he will not be scoring more than 4-6 additional Tds the rest of the season. Yeah, you can cherry pick the 1-3 which turn out better than expected and have a career year, but the vast majority will not wildly exceed their expectations.

It is very much like the hot/cold streaks someone mentioned above about baseball, though I am not using that as my basis. Football is such a team sport and getting so specialized that matchups matter a lot. If one player is having a stellar season or a few games, opponents WILL key on them. Other than a handful of top studs who can still produce in those situations, the vast majority of players will have a roller coaster of scoring through the season.

Just look at Cutler/Marshall last night even. GB keyed on Marshall after his big game week 1 and what did Marshall do? He was shut down and had a terrible FF scoring week. That is what I am saying. Likewise with Welker, he had a bad FF scoring week in week 1, but I figure he will be having much better scoring weeks in the future.

Overall the way I see it is a player will be scoring X points for the year, but those points will not be an equal amount each game. There will be high FF scoring games and low FF scoring games. As hard as it is to predict X total for the year, I feel it is even more difficult to try and predict the weekly amounts, especially for anything weeks into the future.

Obviously the top few stud players at each position will tend to have less roller coaster scoring, but that is a small percentage of all the FF scores in the league. As you get deeper in the rankings from 10th downwards, the roller coaster scoring is greater and greater...

This is almost certainly incorrect. See cdubz post on the previous page.Your idea is one of those concepts that is simple and common and intuitive and wrong. You're essentially saying that if a player does really well in week 1, he is effectively "pulling" some of those stats from games later in the year - e.g. if you had him projected for 8 TDs, and he has 2 of them in week 1, then he's only going to have 6 more in the remaining 15 games. That's a fallacy.

Yeah, I will look into the Defensive scoring. I've always sourced the stats from a specific site, then run them through the contest scoring system and some games will be off because of the way they label some things. They may be off during the scoring during the games, but I'll then check that against another stat source and adjust it if necessary. (which I just did and it adjusted to the correct amount)I'll continue to see if I can get it to be more accurate during the games this year. It looks like all the bugs except the defense have been worked out, so we're very close.

Thanks for the support this year and in the past, I appreciate it.

Not that this directly answers the question, but just for illustrative purposes: I pulled the RBs and WRs who scored 2+ TDs in week 1 for the past ten seasons. I found 60 ocurrences. Those players went on to average 10.7 TDs that season - and this average is really understated because almost all the guys who scored the fewest TDs did so because of missed games (e.g. Kenny Britt had 2 TDs in week 1 last year, but then got hurt in week 3 and missed the rest of the season). The reality is that the majority of guys who scored 2 or more TDs in week 1 went on to score double-digit TDs that season. So this idea that "if a player scores 2 Tds in the first game, there is a very high probability he will not be scoring more than 4-6 additional Tds the rest of the season" is demonstrably false.

:lmao: Doh.... Ohh yeah, I was of the last to get my $$ to you, thanks for doing that and that sucks how it played out.

Michael Bush was in all of my early contest entries until I took him our near the end to upgrade to Ridley. It will be interesting to see what happens with their respective scores now that Bush will get some action the next few weeks. Funny how those small decisions might end up making all the difference.

Mike,This is awesome thanks for setting this up again this year. I will be sending a donation soon.

Thanks again!

Possibly I am not getting things across in the way they are being read. So math time...

Below are the top 200 WR/RB/TEs from a league last year. The first column after each player is the number of bad FF scoring weeks the player had in the season. I just picked a bad day as 4pts or less.

The point I am trying to say is if a player has a big week during the no cuts week, you did not get a pass on one of that players bad FF scoring weeks. Only 13 players did not have a 'bad' FF week. Everyone else had some.

The way I see it, based on the format of this particular contest, bad FF scoring weeks are the ones which leave you in danger of not advancing.

As the data shows, players will have bad games. I can't predict when they will happen, but when they happen I would rather have them happen in week 1 when no cuts were happening. If they didn't get one of their bad weeks out of the way in week 1, then I'll be having to deal with that bad week(s) sometime later... when cuts are happening...
