**Official 2014 MLB Regular Season-All over but the shouting (2 Viewers)

Well, Blanks has always mashed in the minors and he's not a bad fielder despite his size. Goebbert's been productive over the last year, my guess is that he didn't grade out in terms of his defense.

Intriguing trade.

Kyle Blanks now an A
Good kid - hate to see him go, but he deserves a shot to get regular ABs with a team who has holes at 1B and LF. I hope he goes off and has a great year.
Because that's not the Padres?
Moss is not Yonder Alonso.
Q/Seth Smith platoon >>>>>>> Cespedes
I'm not the biggest Yoenislvr, but I'd rather have him than those two. Smith's not going to keep hitting like this, and Quentin's old/always injured.

Engelberg is on deck. He's been murdering the ball lately. The first inside pitch he throws, I want you to lean into it and get hit.

Is Maholm taking one for the team, or what?
:lmao: at Donnie Baseball using Chris Perez in the 4th inning when he pitched last night
Yeah, I found that curious. Lots of dumb managers of this new generation, Ryan Sandberg is so bad it's painful.
There have always been dumb managers but Mattingly, Sandberg and Ventura aren't helping the cause of future stars who want to break into management. Posnanski wrote a piece about it earlier in the season where he ranked MLB managers by their success as players (Maddon was last). I don't know if ex-stars are less willing to put in their time in the low minors to gain managerial experience. Maybe they're seen as too expensive or perhaps there's discrimination by front office types who were also failed players. But Torre and maybe Ozzie were the last stars who won World Series as managers. Pinella, Gil Hodges and Davey Johnson were also successful at both.
Oddly enough, it's Sandberg that put the time into honing his 'craft' in the minors with almost 900 games managed.
Maybe now we know why. I haven't seen him manage so I have no feeling either way

Longoria, Freeman, Votto, McCutchen, Yadier, Posey, Mauer, Tulo, Pedroia, are all relatively young enough and with golden reputations to warrant the possibility down the line. Key would be franchise stability. Don't wanna trade a captain 2 years into his captaincy to cut costs...

Trout? Springer? Goldschmidt?

Speaking of Trout....

Stat of the night: only BJ Upton has struck out more times than Mike Trout has this year.

And that was going into today. Trout has 2 tonight and has taken over the league lead

Thought about Trout and Goldie, but even though one of my caveats was being young, those guys are still too young to be considered IMO. Trout plays on a team with Pujols, I don't know how that would go over with the old man.

He's 22nd in baseball in walks. So, you know, gotta throw him at least as few strikes. He's just been missing them a bit more than usual, although he's never been afraid of striking out. In his first MVP campaign he had a K rate of 21.8%.

Surprised Yadier hasn't gotten the C yet as well.

I have a new favorite non-hometown baseball player. Never change, Carlos Gomez.
I was just coming in here to post this. I miss that guy.

Carlos Gomez, known for all sorts of quirks an eccentricities during his time with the Twins, has kept right on going now that he's with the Brewers.See, when you're newly rich but you don't really know what rich people do/think/say, there are only so many options. You can ask someone for pointers, but that's kind of embarrassing. You can fake your way through, but that has the potential for a major social faux pas.

So Gomez did what he thought was best: he used Google. Per a passage from Sports Illustrated:

[Ryan Braun] says that recently Gomez informed him, while holding a plate full of kiwi, that the fruit had three times as much potassium as bananas. "I asked him how he heard it," Braun says. "He told me, now that he's wealthy, he's been Googling rich-people conversations so he knows what to talk to wealthy people about, and he came across that data."

The thought of Gomez doing that search and learning about potassium in kiwi just delights us and will continue to do so throughout the day.

By the way, we were curious to see if Gomez's facts checked out. We didn't Google "rich-people conversations," but rather went to an actual nutrition site. Sadly, kiwi actually has slightly less potassium per 100 grams than bananas.

Gomez has been lied to by the rich, and correcting the mistake turned out to be pretty, um, low-hanging fruit.

Trout? Springer? Goldschmidt?
Wat?
Not tomorrow .... potentially.
Based upon what? Has he shown some sort of qualities that would make him captain worthy? All of the others mentioned have, to some extent.

Springer actually murdered 12 people while in the minors, but I'm hoping his teammates can look past that.

Do some guys just look for arguments?
