Tino was a bad one, but O'Neill was deserving. Batting title, 4x all star, and most importantly the leader of those late 90's championship teamsFrom that era, they'll end up honoring Jeter, Torre, Mo (all HOFers), Bernie, Tino, & O'Neill. One too many IMO but not outrageous for a 4-time ws dynastyKind of watering it down aren't they? Did either of those guys even get 10% of the HOF vote? I dunno. When I think of Monument Hall or row or whatever it's called, I think of Mantle, Ruth, Joe D, Whitey Ford and even Jeter. Not a 4-time All-Star.Tino was a bad one, but O'Neill was deserving. This has turned into an amazing story. The Royals haven't lost since he got into town last Tuesday. Threw out a first pitch, bet George Brett, and now this last night. My favorite feel-good sports story of the year so far. Hopefully MLB will hype this a bit more.

I was watching the game and jumped out of my chair when I saw that catch. Yelled at my wife to come and see the replay. What a great moment for that guy. Really brightened up what was shaping up to be a sad, gloomy night.

What's the deal with throwing an old ball out and keeping the HR ball? Is that common?
It's a tradition at Wrigley to throw an opposing team's home runs back. It's not uncommon to see people pull a fast one and throw a different ball back.

It's kind of a cute tradition at Wrigley, so I get it there.
I don't get it anywhere else, though. What point are you making, other than copying a fun Wrigley thing?
"Hey guys, the fans threw back that home run ball I just hit out! Apparently they don't like it when we hit HRs against their team? Let's not do that any more, I'd hate to think we're making the patrons unhappy in any way."

I've always liked that they throw it back. That's the first time I noticed someone switch it with an old ball and throw that one back.

I think it's a great tradition, and agree it shouldn't be copied anywhere else. That said, throwing back a dud ball turns a positive into a very big negative.
