**Official 2014 MLB Regular Season-All over but the shouting (3 Viewers)

Something interesting happened on Wednesday in Houston. The Athletics-Astros game drew a 0.0 rating on CSN Houston, the third time this has happened since the network’s launch nearly two years ago. While this in and of itself isn’t strange, the other side of the equation is – the game wasn’t available at all in Oakland on CSN California, meaning that the two local ratings for the game were 0.0 and N/A.
Maybe everyone knows this, but this seems to be part of the Houston ratings issue: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-dark-side-of-booming-local-tv-deals/

Comcast SportsNet Houston launched in October 2012 and, since then, has been seen only by Comcast cable customers. The new RSN – a joint venture among the Houston Astros, Houston Rockets and Comcast Sports Group — couldn’t come to agreement on carriage fees with any other cable or satellite company in the region. With the RSN bleeding cash, Comcastforced the venture into bankruptcy court last September, where the parties have been fighting ever since. Astros owner Jim Crane also sued Comcast and former team owner Drayton McLane for fraud in the sale of the team.

Dodgers pitcher Paul Maholm is expected to miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his right knee in Friday's loss to the Cubs, the team announced on Saturday.
If he continued pitching through the torn ACL, would anyone even notice?

WTF happened to Pedroia? Can you chalk it all up to injuries? That mammoth contract he signed last year ain't lookin so team-friendly anymore.

If ernesto frieri broke goldys hand im gonna send him gorilla poop in the mail
I don't give a damn about what Frieri did. This is 100% on that ####### gimpy idiot, Gibson. He needs to shoulder the blame here. There's no reason in the world to have Goldy pinch hitting in that situation.

he was double switched into the game with the score 4-4
You're right. Knew he had the day off yesterday and assumed he pinch hit. Looking backplane at box score, it makes sense

Hope you don't have Cutch on your team because I expect a little retaliation tonight. Godly was a class act about it.

He got plunked in the 9th inning when the game was out of hand. What a joke.

It's odd that Fuld has bounced between teams recently. Seems like an ideal 25th man to have. Great in the field, good baserunner.

I still think the Twins made out like bandits in that deal. No idea why A's were down on Tommy Millone.

And I agree, Fuld hustles all over the place. Nice glue guy.

He's put it together this year in terms of his selectivity at the plate. If that continues, along withhis ++ defending (esp at a corner spot) makes him a really valuable starter, not just an off-the-bench/defensive guy, IMO.

I like the trade of him for Milone, obviously I just wish he'd gotten a longer leash with Oakland the first time around.

So is Goldy basically out for the year? Broken hands are kind of a ##### I would imagine.
Sadly, I would think so.

AJ Pollock broke his hand on June 2 and played in his first rehab game on 8/1, so 2 months.

http://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/mlb/diamondbacks/2014/08/02/paul-goldschmidt-has-fractured-left-hand-goes-on-dl/13515449/

The team doesn't have an exact timetable for Goldschmidt's recovery, but it could take awhile. Three Arizona players have suffered similar injuries in the past two years, each needing around two months to return.

So Cards/Brewers or O's/M's couldn't have been the Sunday night game? We had to have the Yankees/Red Sux again? Fail

ESPN’s near-weekly Yankees-Red Sox Late Sunday Night Game is eager for you to know its announcers, Dan Shulman and John Kruk, will call it from above Fenway’s Green Monster. Why?

Because such innovations, no matter how counter-productive or silly, are deemed innovative, thus easily confused by the easily confused with bold, experimental, “Mr. Watson, come here!” genius.

I’m gonna take a wild guess here to suggest if the vicinity of the Green Monster is the best place from which to call a game — the best spot from which to best serve viewers — that would have been known a long time ago. Fenway, built in 1912, predates TV.

Perhaps it escapes ESPN, but there’s a reason seats just above and behind home plate cost more than those in the bleachers.

Another wild guess: Try as ESPN might, will having Shulman and Kruk call the game from about as far away from the pitcher and catcher as one can be while still inside Fenway, make the difference between you watching and not watching? I’m going with “No.”

Another question: Will Shulman and Kruk’s workplace better provide you a chance to still be awake by, say, the seventh or eighth? Doubtful, but we’ll find out.

Will these distant perspectives help hold the audience if the game’s one-sided? Or will they detract and distract from a good ballgame?

The answer to those questions is ESPN, if it ever considered them, couldn’t care less.

ESPN’s standard regard for the games it televises and the genuine sports fans within its audiences can be scored no higher than my high school algebra final. I scored a “See me.”

If ESPN wanted to add some enhancement by providing visual perspectives from the Green Monster — and you can call me crazy — why not place a TV camera there, as opposed to its broadcast crew?

It’s TV; you don’t have to tell us when you can show us. Besides, most of us have seen that view before.

Why not have ESPN’s guys call a game from a blimp? Perhaps a New Orleans Saints’ home game.

But that’s the difference between silly then, and silly now. Silly used to be accidental; it would cause its purveyors to feel foolish. Now, silly, ridiculous and just plain stupid are a big part of the grand plan.

So don’t miss ESPN on Sunday night, when two East Coast teams play a game West Coasters will have the best shot to watch in its entirety, and when its game announcers will have a better view of the street than the game.

Erik Boland ‏@eboland11Girardi said Tanaka will meet again with doctor tomorrow. Could possibly play catch if he's given the clearance to do so

Just shut him the #### down. This team never looks at the big picture because there is so much pressure to win in that city. The stars would have to align perfectly for them to make any noise this year. The offense stinks.

Pirates try to turn an double play to send the game to the 11th but the Dbacks player blocks the throw with his hand to end the game.

Clay Buchholz: 5.87 ERA in 2014 (1.74 in '13). No pitcher in MLB history has had ERA triple from one season to next (min. 100 IP)
