Has Bradford audibled at all this season? I don't remember a single time he checked out of a play after reading the defense.
Forget where I read it, but I don't think Kelly has audibles in his system. Do you remember Foles or Sanchez ever audibling? I can't, but doesn't mean it didn't happen. For the snap count thing, is that new this year? If not, why was it not an issue the past two years? That is't something teams would need years of film to figure out.
Maybe you're right. Just don't remember us looking this helpless on some plays and audibles would help back the defense off a bit.
The adjustments are sort of built into the plays already. There are typically options short, med and deep and a dump off for most plays.
Exactly, and the packaged plays/read option makes audibles unnecessary, in theory. But Kelly has stated several times that many of the called runs might look like an option, but are not. So in those cases, if it looks like the defense is set to counter the play, we're screwed because the QB has no options out of it.
Which is where having a more athletic quarterback would make this offense 10x more dangerous. If the defense senses run, and everyone starts going right, they know it's a handoff. Vick used to be able to pull it back and run himself. Even Foles did it a little bit, and he's no great athlete. Bradford could do it, but his knees are made of glass. Mariota would have been such a perfect fit. I know it wasn't in the cards, but that's what I was hoping for.
Completely agree, but it's hard enough finding a decent QB today, let alone one who can run and throw. The RG3's and Kaepernick's of the world are showing us that.
Buffalo found Taylor. I don't think we'd need a 4.3 guy. Just someone who can run and then slide. Rodgers and Luck are good examples of guys who aren't burners but can run well. Just someone who would make the defense hesitate to see if he handed off or pulled back to run himself. Or throw.
Yeah, about Taylor. He wanted to come to the Eagles, but they signed Tebow instead. :kicksrock:
Taylor signed with the Bills on March 12. Over a month before we signed Tebow, so this title is a little misleading.

Been frustrating, but all hope is not lost IMO. Opening up as 5 point faves against NOLA.

http://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/odds/las-vegas/

Have to think the kicking game and offense have looked as poor as they realistically can, and honestly they are 1 or 2 plays away from being 3-1 (by this I mean losing two games by a combined 5 points, while missing kicks and dropping passes, etc.)

Only 1 game back in the division, and no...I don't care about tie breakers yet as it's week 4 and they play the teams they lost to again this season, and can even up those division head to heads.

Put up or shut up time, though.
Ugh, I hate being the favourites. 0-3 when favoured, 1-0 when underdogs.
True, but it shows you what the experts think. The teams we've played are 4-0, 2-2, 3-1, 2-2. And we should be 3-1. The Cowboys are the only team that looked better than us to the eye. It could be a lot worse. We haven't played one good game yet and we're only one game back in the division.
What games were you watching? We didn't look like the better team out there for our losses.
I certainly think we did yesterday. And I'd say Atlanta looked better in the first half and Philly looked bbetter in the second half of week one.

We kick that FG and we likely win that ATL game. I'm starting to feel better about that Atlanta game actually. They look awesome, and were playing great at home and we were a kick away from beating them.

But I think overall we looked better then Washington. They made lots of errors in the 2nd half. Dallas also looked horrid against us (but we looked equally if not more horrid). Given those 3 close losses, I think if we replayed those games we would likely have pulled out ONE of them and been 2-2
I thought the Bradford pass that went right through JMatthews' hands for an interception is why we lost that game. I didn't have confidence that we'd even make that field goal. Or that we'd hold Atlanta when they got the ball back. We were great offensively in the second half of that game. Matthews catches that for a first down, and we're right back on the march again. And we only needed a field goal.

I mean, honestly, I think you could just as easily woulda-coulda-shoulda us to 0-4.
True. If Marshall doesn't make that bonehead play and coverage doesn't break down for Sproles' return, we could have lost that game. That's my point. Only Dallas seemed like the better team. And Atlanta, New York, and Washington have a combined record of 9-3.

The real test will be the giants game. You can say this game is a must win, and it pretty much is, but that Giants game is huge. They look like the clear best team in the div right now, and no chance in hell a wild card is coming from the nfc east.

I guess my point is, good teams win the games where it could go either way. Bad teams lose them. Losing to Washington without their best WR in a must win situation is unacceptable. It's almost as though these guys don't watch any film of the upcoming team and develop their game plan at halftime. It's ridiculous.

I love your optimism but we're slowly turning the corner from greatly disappointed to furiously angry.
I hear ya. And personally, I don't think that turn is a slow one. We're gaining speed towards an angry fan base, and perhaps rightfully so. These failures to make plays/execute need to stop, immediately, or the season will be lost.

I think my take is less me being optimistic and being more realistic that while trending that direction, it's not yet lost. Philadelphia has played very badly, and IMO, nearer to or at their floor. Fortunately, I think several of the issues here are correctable ones. Catch the pass. Make the kick. And, we're fortunate to be in a division where other teams have been injured or started slowly.

As a Shady owner, I'm actually glad he got traded. It's hard to watch the Eagle right now.

Funny how what seemed to be a death Knell just a few months ago is actually a good thing. THis Eagles o-line is dysfunctional and the injuries are going to put it over the edge.
Too bad he's already clocked out after receiving the new deal huh?
Demarcco Murray has 47 rushing yards this year.
I would take Ryan Mathews over both.
A McCoy/Mathews backfield would be pretty good. Especially since McCoy is perfect for the system Chip runs, really helped out the O-Line. Good thing he was chased out of town.
Gotta love all of the arrogant Skins fans that know everything all of the sudden after a 3 point win on their field to put them a whole game ahead. You would almost think that they haven't been a disaster for 20 years and their QB hasn't had a worse career start than both JaMarcus and Blaine Gabbert.
Has.

Maxwell needs to step up for once. I know he's been against some of the best receivers in the league (Julio Jones, Brandon Marshall), but he signed a huge contract. He needs to be a difference maker. In a positive way. Beckham Jr is another stud. That'll be three of the top ten receivers in the league in his first five games as an Eagle (and if Dez wasn't hurt, it would have been 4 in 5 games). He hasn't done a good job on any of them.

How a redskins fan can come in here and laugh at any personel moves that the Eagles have made is absolutely comical. Your franchise has literally been a laughing stock of the NFC East the last 15 years and traded away an entire draft for one of the worst quarter backs I've ever seen play the game. Not to mention are also notorious for over paying divas that don't perform on Sundays. Skins fans were popping champagne after yesterday's lucky win as if they just won the superbowl... Probably because it was the first meaningful game they've played in a couple seasons... understandable.

I think he's also improved each week. He was brutal the first couple weeks, then played pretty well vs the jets, and again vs wash. Hopefully Cooks is an easier guy to stop.

LOL Yeah, you guys used to be good. Congrats. Many NFL players weren't even born yet in '91. And you guys have had 5 winning seasons in the past 23 years. That's why yesterday was so huge for you. Congrats. Live it up. Go Mark Rypien!

I wanted Maxwell and yea, he's been awful. How much you want to bet Cooks has a breakout game next week?

I would like to not bet anything. Don't need a reason for you cheering when he scores a TD :P

But ya he very well could have one.

Eagles fans don't have to imagine. Philly had 5 winning seasons over a 25 year period from 62' to 87'.

Haha Yep it's him. I know it sounds really weird, but he's the reason I'm an Eagles fan. Growing up I was never really into NFL as a kid, but when my family told me in '96 that my 2nd cousin was Mark Rypien, I started to follow.... of course then, he was just a backup for The Eagles but I got a bunch of Eagles stuff and have followed them religiously ever since.

if you're going pre-Super Bowl, then congratulate us for our championship in 1960. Also, you had to go back 53 years to include our drought. The one I mentioned for Washington is currently active.

Haha, maybe my grandfather can tell me about that one while they are living the Dan Snyder nightmare every Sunday. As bad as they want Chip to be the failure every coach they have had since Joe Gibbs part I has been he has already surpassed all of them.

He said that as a redskins fan, he hopes Kelly stays in charge of eagles personel. 5 winning seasons in 23 years. After eeking out a three point win with 29 seconds to go. Just a stupid comment that opened him up to being reminded of how his team has been the last quarter of a century.

Congrats! That's the thing about championships.

The Redskins have 3 Lombardi trophies, all won in my lifetime and the last 2 I remember like they were yesterday. The Skins have been a pathetic franchise since Snyder took over but as a fan I am comforted by the hardware in the trophy case. I will ALWAYS remember watching my team win Super Bowls and being crowned world champions. ALWAYS.

I'm not trying to pick a fight in your thread. But no Skins fan came in here crowing about yesterdays win or throwing a ticker tape parade like you claim. One guy made some comments about Chip Kelly's personnel decisions and you got all defensive. I just came with some info. Carry on.

Eagles fans don't have to imagine. Philly had 5 winning seasons over a 25 year period from 62' to 87'.
if you're going pre-Super Bowl, then congratulate us for our championship in 1960.Also, you had to go back 53 years to include our drought. The one I mentioned for Washington is currently active.

Carry on.
Too bad the Redskins don't have a team thread where they can go have positive discussion. Oh wait...they do. But no fun trolling that thread, huh? Like I said, you eeked out a three point win to raise your record to 2-2. Calm down. And as the team who traded their entire future for a clipboard holding, $6 million dollar bench warmer, advise your pals not to worry about the Eagles personel moves.

That was like their Super Bowl yesterday. Let them enjoy it.
Yeah, not so much. They actually have hardware in the cabinet.

....and they will still finish last place in the division but hey, they are 2-2 instead of 1-3 so why not act like their franchise isn't the biggest disaster in the NFL? Classy.

Nobody is trolling your thread or getting excited over beating your bad football team.

But if strawmen help you guys fell better have at it.

Easy now....
You related to him?
Yep
I was going to guess either him or Doug Williams for some reason No clue if you're black or white. :lmao: Good stuff.
Native American
Nope, White-Canadian :P

Or was that a 'redskins' joke
Oh ok... Didn't know some people actually thought he was Native American until I looked.

"In the past, Rypien mistakenly was identified as having a Native-American background, with some persons calling for his response to Washington’s nickname. But he’s of Polish and Czech descent which, as he said, “is where I get my high cheekbones.”

Weird.

Chip's press conference today

http://www.phillymag.com/birds247/2015/10/05/chip-kelly-we-have-the-right-players/#more-3022779

Some interesting snips:

"We know we have the right players here. It's a play here or a play there. We lost a game by a two and we lost a game by three and we lost another game by 10. We've lost three games by 15 points. You hit two kicks and we're sitting here 3-1 and everyone's happy."

-- One unit that hasn't executed as much as they need to is the offensive line. Although Kelly said at the start of the press conference that he was happy with his personnel, he seemed to walk back from that stance a bit.

"At this point in time, you have to. There's not a bunch of o-linemen on the street. Everybody is on their different teams at this point in time so you hope [Jason Peters] is healthy this week and he can go. If not, we got to go with what we got."

-- One controversial offseason move was letting Pro Bowl left guard Evan Mathis go, which Kelly still sticks by.

"It's not a lesson learned. We weren't going to renegotiate his contract. We were told by his agent if we didn't renegotiate it, we weren't getting him back."

-- In addition to the offensive line, new kicker Caleb Sturgis also struggled. However, Kelly said they won't cut him and that they also worked out Nick Novak last week, who signed with the Texans.

"We're going to stay with Caleb. Looked at what's available out there and don't feel — I think the state of kicking in the league right now is not very good."

Chips bordering on delusional and I'm sure the players are happy to hear that it's not his scheme or play calling but just that they, the players, are not executing.

Fwiw he may be right, but isn't the GM supposed to bring in the right players for the coach?

BWest and Baldy made some good points this morning about the lockerroom. They said stuff like sleep monitoring and smoothies etc are fine when you're winning. When you're losing, guys will tune you out really quick on that nonsense.

Yeah he's like bizarro Reid. Reid would take the blame for everything (to the point where it actually annoyed the fans and media). Chip doesn't seem to like pointing the finger at himself. It's always an issue with execution but never just a lack of talent at certain positions.

Execution still falls at his feet. Oline not executing because he's got backups as starters at the guard position which exposes Kelces weaknesses and in turn hurts the run game. Wrs dropping passes and/or not getting open, because they are sub-par, etc. all his doing. You can't buy the groceries, make the meal then complain about the crappy cut of meat you had to use.

Too much going on with this team to point at any one player or coach. Its easy to say its all Chip but the players are getting paid to do a job as well and some are doing that job horribly
