Saints WR depth chart from wednesday

If I had to set a depth chart for the receivers, based only on what we saw today, it would look like this:

2. Brandin Cooks
3. Brandon Coleman
4. Joe Morgan
5. Josh Morgan
6. Nick Toon
7a. Willie Snead
7b. Seantavius Jones

 
Watching the game Mike Wallace doesn't look like he has any chemistry with Bridgewater, just an opinion from watching both games but he does not look in sync yet.

 
(Rotoworld) Jimmy Garopplo blew up for 269 passing yards and one touchdown in Saturday's preseason win over the Saints. Analysis: Garoppolo was money all night, completing 28-of-33 passes including 17-of-20 in the second half. Jimmy G has carved up opposing defenses for 365 yards on 43-of-50 passing since the second half of last week's loss to Green Bay. Sure most of his yards have come against second and third-stringers, but it's hard to find fault with what Garoppolo has accomplished this preseason. (Rotoworld) Jeremy Langford powered his way to 80 yards on nine carries in Saturday's preseason win against the Colts. Analysis: Langford got a head of steam going on a 46-yard dash in the third quarter, nearly taking it all the way. Later in the quarter, he broke two tackles on his way to a gorgeous two-yard touchdown. The fourth-round pick showed nice vision Saturday and was patient in waiting for his holes to open up. It's a big improvement from last week when Langford totaled one yard on four carries in a win against the Dolphins.

 
(Rotoworld) LeGarrette Blount totaled just 15 yards on 13 carries in Saturday's preseason win over the Saints. Analysis: Blount was held out of last week's preseason opener with a knee injury and was understandably rusty on Saturday. His longest gain went for six yards. Despite the poor outing, Blount is still New England's unquestioned workhorse and the favorite for goal line carries. We'll see if he can bounce back in next week's dress rehearsal against the Panthers.

 
(Rotoworld) Colts first-round WR Phillip Dorsett is day to day with a bruised knee. Analysis: Dorsett went down with what looked like a scary injury, but ended up avoiding anything serious. He caught 3-of-3 targets for 21 yards before going down, and is up to 7/72 through two preseason games. Dorsett appears to have a leg up on Donte Moncrief for No. 3 duties.

 
(Rotoworld) Lorenzo Taliaferro rushed four times for eight yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Eagles. Analysis: Taliaferro came off the bench behind Justin Forsett, but got two carries on Baltimore's opening drive. He operated well ahead of rookie Buck Allen. Shaping up as the Ravens' clear No. 2, Taliaferro has 16 carries for 44 yards (2.75 YPC) through two preseason games.

(Rotoworld) Maxx Williams caught 3-of-4 targets for 25 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Eagles. Analysis: Williams spent time with both the first- and second-team offense. Williams reportedly hasn't been making many plays in practice, but is up to 5/61 through two preseason games. The talented rookie is on the TE2 radar.

(Rotoworld) Buck Allen rushed six times for 19 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Eagles, adding two catches for 25 yards.

 
(Rotoworld) Latavius Murray rushed four times for 20 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings. Analysis: Murray looked great. The backs behind him, not so much. The breakout candidate is now up to 55 yards on only 10 preseason totes (5.5 YPC).

(Rotoworld) Trent Richardson rushed five times for five yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings. Analysis: T-Rich has just 23 yards on 10 preseason carries (2.3 YPC). His roster odds are hanging on for dear life.

(Rotoworld) Derek Carr completed 4-of-8 passes for 78 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings. Analysis: He didn't throw any touchdowns or interceptions. Most of his yards came on Oakland's second drive of the game including 40 on a pretty completion to Amari Cooper down the right sideline. Carr didn't play again after the game was delayed by lightning in the second quarter. He's completed 10-of-17 passes for 121 yards this preseason.

(Rotoworld) Amari Cooper caught one pass for 40 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings. Analysis: Cooper burned Terence Newman on a deep ball down the right sideline. The 21-year-old has shown good chemistry with Carr throughout camp and should open the year as Oakland's go-to receiver. Look for him to challenge Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota for Rookie of the Year honors.

 
(Rotoworld) Colts sixth-round RB Josh Robinson rushed 13 times for 61 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Bears, adding a six-yard reception. Analysis: All of Robinson's touches came after halftime with the deep reserves, but it was still a nice night. The rookie back now has 105 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries (4.56 YPC) through two preseason games. He's done enough to secure a roster spot, and is likely making Vick Ballard expendable.

(Rotoworld) Colts RB Vick Ballard rushed twice for four yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Bears. Analysis: It was the injury-prone Ballard's first appearance of any kind since Week 1, 2013. With the Colts' running back corps deeper than it's been in recent seasons, Ballard appears to be a 53-man roster long shot.

(Rotoworld) Ronnie Hillman broke out for 54 yards on eight carries in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans. Analysis: That gives Hillman 120 yards on 16 carries this preseason. As good as he's looked with the ball in his hands, Hillman has been even better in pass protection, routinely laying defenders out to give Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler more time in the pocket. He's surged past Montee Ball and is now in the driver's seat for backup carries behind starter C.J. Anderson.

(Rotoworld) C.J. Anderson pounded the rock four times for 24 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans. Analysis: Anderson also caught one pass for three yards. He missed a block when the Broncos went to the no-huddle on their opening drive but redeemed himself later with an impressive 14-yard burst up the middle. The ankle injury Anderson suffered in last week's preseason opener is ancient history. The Broncos have promised a more balanced approach on offense this year, which should leave plenty of work for Anderson.

 
(Rotoworld) Alfred Blue started Saturday's preseason game against the Broncos, rushing four times for 10 yards. Analysis: Blue monopolized first-team work before giving way to Jonathan Grimes and Chris Polk. Neither Polk nor Grimes got a touch while starting QB Ryan Mallett was in the game. Blue is a replacement-level talent, but the Texans appear set to roll with him as their early-down back while Arian Foster (groin) is on the mend.

(Rotoworld) Texans RB Chris Polk rushed seven times for 36 yards in Saturday's preseason game, adding three catches for 19 yards. Analysis: They're nice numbers, but Polk was a distant No. 3 behind Alfred Blue and Jonathan Grimes. The journeyman 2012 undrafted free agent has 17 carries for 65 yards through two preseason games. He's tacked on six grabs for 55 yards.

(Rotoworld) Texans RB Jonathan Grimes rushed five times for 23 yards in Saturday's preseason game, adding two receptions for an additional 12 yards. Analysis: Grimes was the first man off the bench behind fill-in starter Alfred Blue. He operated as a three-down back for the majority of the second quarter before giving way to Chris Polk and Kenny Hilliard. Grimes should get plenty of work in passing situations while Arian Foster (groin) rehabs. He has 10 carries for 27 yards through two preseason games, adding three catches for 22 yards.

Making his preseason debut, David Johnson put on a show against the Chargers on Saturday, rushing 13 times for 66 yards, and catching two passes for an additional 15 yards.
Johnson got run with both the first- and second-team offense. The third-rounder looked worth the wait for grouchy coach Bruce Arians, showing some real slickness through the pile. Johnson also did a good job of following his blockers, and turned a few nothings into somethings. Johnson still did a little unnecessary dancing, and may have botched a blitz pick up, but it was an extremely positive debut. Andre Ellington will begin the year as the Cardinals' No. 1 back, but Johnson has a real shot at third-down duties. Recent signee Chris Johnson was inactive this evening.

The much-discussed running back got to play the second and third quarters. But often having little room to run, he rushed for just 27 yards on 10 carries. Carroll made clear afterward that he put most of the run game issues on the line and not the backs saying “I don’t think we got the spacing that we needed for what we ran.” Ultimately, Michael’s best play might have been a block of an oncoming rusher that cleared the way for R.J. Archer to hit Tyler Lockett for 25 yards in the third quarter.

 
Some Cowboys fans like George Farmer. I never saw him. The talk on the radio was all positive.

I don't know what happened but he was cut and picked up by Seattle who then turned and made him a DB and only use him as WR when needed.

I'd guess Carroll or USC guys loved Farmer years ago as he was the #1 WR out of high school then wrecked his knees. Might be an interesting story here though

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey is expected to miss half of the 2015 season after fracturing his ankle in Sunday's preseason game.

This makes Pouncey a candidate for injured reserve/designated for return. Pouncey broke his left ankle in Sunday's exhibition game against the Packers. The Steelers will turn to journeyman Cody Wallace at center in the meantime. Pouncey is not one of the best centers in the league, but he's an above-average starter and the pivot for an offensive line that returned all five components from last season. Pouncey's loss is a concern for the efficiency of Pittsburgh's running game.

Roddy White will undergo surgery on his troublesome elbow, but is expected back for Week 1.

The surgery is being called "minor," and the expectation that White will still be healed by Opening Day comes via coach Dan Quinn. Still, the injury is another indication that White's body seems to be breaking down. He also requires sporadic drainings of his knee and has been banged up in each of the last two seasons. White turns 34 years old this November. Leonard Hankerson stands to benefit with more first-team reps the rest of camp.

It wasn't easy. I was fortunate to have a high degree of flexibility over the past few years and I have enjoyed helping the members of this board to stay informed. I am taking on a new career direction that may not allow for quite as much flexibility, so I do appreciate the help from you and others in the Shark Pool!

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel expects third-round pick Ty Montgomery to take over as the Packers' third receiver after Jordy Nelson's ACL tear.

Jeff Janis was Nelson's immediate replacement on the outside in Sunday's preseason game, but the Journal-Sentinel apparently believes Montgomery is ahead of him on the depth chart. Beat reporter Tom Silverstein writes he expects Janis to compete with Myles White and a host of others for the final few game-day roster spots. Montgomery and Janis should really be a camp battle for the rest of August and early September. Both should get a ton of snaps in the remaining exhibition games.

Montgomery running as No. 3 receiver Tuesday

Ty Montgomery was operating as the Packers' No. 3 receiver in Tuesday's practice.
With the Packers in a three-wide set, Montgomery lined up opposite Davante Adams while Randall Cobb manned the slot. It confirms Montgomery is getting the first crack to replace Jordy Nelson over Jeff Janis. Although Janis is a favorite of the Twitter metrics crowd, the Packers believe he's too inconsistent for a bigger role on offense. Janis could theoretically still overtake Montgomery with strong performances in Green Bay's final two preseason games, but a third-round pick, Montgomery is getting the benefit of the doubt.
