Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (3 Viewers)

I'd love to hear some Republican thoughts on the Flint water crisis. Would you support criminal charges if it is indeed found the the governor knowingly poisoned those people? I lean left so I have a horse in the race but I like to think I'd lean toward accountability even if it was a Democrat. Is this "wrong" enough to cross party lines?
Apparently EPA officials knew about this for months. I think this is like the Katrina levees and the Colorado river spill. Any public officials or private vendors employees who underdesigned, underreported, undermaintained or who converted funds for this program should go to jail. But like Katrina it likely will never happen.

This belongs in the Flint thread, but

What did he know and when did he know it. If he chose to cover it up or pressured the DEQ to cover it up, then he should be charged. We know that the DEQ did know, fudged the test results and lied about the use of phosphates; so those folks should be charged. We also know that the EPA knew and sat on it, so , if not charges, I would expect a slew of resignations. We also learned that the state health department sat on an outbreak of Legionaires. I'm not sure what the correct protocol is on that kind of thing, but those folks should be sweating out their jobs and potential legal actions.

I am confident we will learn more in the coming weeks.

Why exactly do we care if someone is a natural born citizen or not? I would have zero problem voting for someone born in another country, or even someone who lived a good chunk of their life there.
You might not have been alive when birthers (including Donald Trump) cried incessantly over Obama's birth records. It was a funny, weird time to be alive. Just curious if the birthers are going crazy over Cruz.

That is all just flat out sickening.

Didn't cruz provide the birth certificate and his mother was born in Wilmington, Delaware?

That only makes him natural born if you believe in a liberal living Constitution, which Cruz does not. An originalist analysis means he cant be President because hes not natural born.

Of course they are not. And I am sure their objections about Obama had nothing to do with his race.

Watched some of the debate and had to turn it off because I can only take so much. It's embarrassing that it seems this is the best we can do in this country. I mean really, is this the best we can do?Trump-- I guess his willingness to be politically incorrect is a plus but come on, this guy should not come close to the White House.Cruz-- the guy is scary. So we have one candidate that I would consider voting for in the general..ONE ####### candidate.... just wow.
All that babble only to say you're a Bernie guy. :lmao:
As if he had ANY interest in voting GOP in the first place.

99.5% of his post is railing against the GOP and he gives lip service with half a sentence on how he doesn't like Hillary.
Well, hispost was about the GOP debate in a GOP thread and you want him to spend most of it complaining about Hillary?
He's a full blown lefty and he's complaining there are no good GOP candidates to vote for. Shocking, right?

I know you get it, but you're just being obtuse.
But the truth is Max there's more than one Republican pundit who has written the exact same thing.
I haven't heard one republican pundit say they are voting for Bernie.

Hmmm....I always assumed "Natural Born" (when it comes to citizenship) means you were born in the US or one of your parents is a US citizen.

I know you get it, but you're just being deliberately obtuse.
I get that you are a full blown righty and any criticism will annoy you.

I have no clue if he is a lefty...Im probably considered one too...despite never voting for a democrat for President.

This cast of GOP candidates is terrible (and I don't like the democratic candidates either)...but you complained that he barely talked about democrats in a post about the GOP debate and his thoughts from that...I know you get that too, but just want to complain more because that is what you do.
You still don't get it...not surprised. I guess obtuse is a natural trait with you instead of a deliberate one.

No one is complaining here, just pointing out the obvious fact that several others have also pointed out.
2 others...one of them the other hardcore right RBM.

I get it...and yes, you were complaining.

Oh, here we go with the race card again. I fixed your post for you.

For the record, how long do you plan on calling people racist for not agreeing with your choices?

No, I wasn't. Pointing out the obvious absurdity of his post is not complaining. We can do this all day

He didn't...he imied race had a lot to do with the birther movement. And it likely did

You need to learn to read better. Should spend time on that while you troll the seahawks game thread.

Says the King Troll himself. You need to lighten up, buddy. You're taking things a) out of context and b) way too seriously.

Jesus, I had to explain to you what ;) meant in the other thread for crying out loud because you apparently thought that was some kind of slight.

Seems like if I recall it right, at the time they were in full blown meltdown mode over it our commander in chief was busy trying to take out Osama Bin Laden.

I have a nephew (by marriage) whose mother is a US citizen (born in Philly), and whose father became naturalized about a decade ago,but he has never lived in the U.S.

Should he be eligible to become POTUS?

Yes. That was always my impression as long as you were born as a US Citizen (by parents who are US citizens).

"Natural Born" does not have an official definition under current U.S. law. There are several laws that define "citizen", but none of them use the phrase "natural born".

Ted Cruz' citizenship status would fall under the The Immigration And Nationality Act Of 1952, which states that when a child (born outside the U.S.) has only one citizen parent, that parent must have been physically present in the United States for 10 years (at least 5 of which were after the age of 14). Note that "physically present" is different from "resided in". And so far Cruz has offered little proof that his mother was physically present in the United States for at least 10 years.

Also, there is the question of whether Cruz' mother lost her American citizenship by becoming a Canadian citizen. If so, then Cruz obviously would not be an American citizen at all. The Supreme Court ruled in 1967 that people who become citizens of other countries do not lose their American citizenship unless they intend to lose it, but so far Cruz has not provided any documentation showing his mother's intentions.

And even if Cruz's mother DID retain her American citizenship and she WAS physically present in the United States for 10 years, that would still not resolve the question of whether Cruz is a "natural born" citizen. There were many founding fathers who believed that "natural born" meant "born on U.S. soil". The only way to conclusively resolve Cruz' citizenship status is to have the Supreme Court rule on it. Or amend the Constitution.

Interesting... By current immigration law, he isn't eligible for citizenship, but you think he should be eligible for president.

Any strict constructionist has to go by the letter of the law. Natural born clearly means born naturally, through the ######l canal.

As Cruz is a pod person this disqualifies him from holding the office.

In fact, if ISIS were to visit us, or our communities, at any moment, the last line of defense between ISIS and my family is the ability that I have to protect my family from them, or from a criminal, or anyone else who seeks to do us harm.
Hey moron, ISIS isn't breaking into your home at night.

Republicans ought to be embarrassed by their Party.

Which is funny because you have a Socialist and a lying, corrupt POS at the head of your Party.

10 months out from the election, and you're already melting down in here?

Why is term socialist deemed derogatory? Ignorance? Brainwashing? As a finance major who is rounding out my degree this has always confused me.

Capitalism, running full bore and completely unfettered, will do nothing but produce more financial crises similar to the 06 housing bubble. The truth is you need to find a happy balance between the two.

It has to do with the definition of socialism, which is a sliding scale.

No one wants to talk about that.

:lmao: at MaxThreshold. You should announce your candidacy. You would fit right in with Trump and Cruise. I do not think that lapdogs qualify. Constitutionally speaking that is.

A major reason why Sanders has an uphill climb. The term socialist in this country is like being Nazi. The electorate is stupid and they hear socialist is bad , no vote.

Maybe natural born citizen means that you had to be delivered by natural childbirth, rather than by C section.

If that is the case, I can only imagine the look on poor Mrs Cruz's face when she looked down and saw this staring back at her from betwixt her legs...

I'm not sure you really understand capitalism if you think it was the cause of the housing bubble.
