Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (2 Viewers)

Some of Mandy's wonderful points that seem so straight forward to many include this little tidbit

-Take a fraction of the 1.6 Trillion on the war effort, take a fraction and put towards humanitarian effort...this always sounds good. Of course Mandy fails to acknowledge there is plenty of money already going to these efforts that needs to be looked at to see if it is being spent well or going to the right places because a lot of time it isn't. My wife works and non profit, they waste a lot of money.

-War is big business

-International Criminal Court System, says he would not have killed Adolf Hitler...that's pretty telling.

If you fast forward to about the last 1/4 of the video you will see Mandy rescuing Syrian refugees, you watch and report back.
Rather than that, why don't you simply state your own views on these issues, and what it has to do with the GOP race?
I think the GOP faithful would be wise to sit and listen to a man who has some influence and cameras following him rescuing Syrian refugees on the Greek Coast. He says some pretty over the top remarks in the interview, Rose is the gold standard on late night for meaningful conversation/interview. Just thought some would really learn or enjoy what the opposite is saying or doing.

Mandy is suggesting we all open our homes, wallets and valuables to these folks.

Is your point to show us that there's someone out there even goofier than Trump?

The GOP gets called on the carpet plenty and I'm trying to show that Mandy does speak for a good chunk of the Left. Trump is pummeled all the time and every time he opens his mouth even if he reveals the secrets to curing cancer the left cries racism. I admit he says things that can be labeled that way but every time he says something I see the words racist attached by anyone being critical. I think that's shameful because not everything he says is racist.

I didn't know wanting to slow down immigrants into this country was a racist viewpoint. I didn't know not wanting to open your home and wallets to Syrian refugees automatically makes you a racist. These are what the Left portrays to the point where anytime you are in public and someone thinks or finds out you might be conservative suddenly you are labeled a racist. It's slanderous but goes largely unpunished and really no ramifications at all.

Trump is no saint though and deserves a lot of criticism but it gets a little hyper after a bit.

And the Left has it set so that anyone even mentions his name you are labeled a racist. That's how much the left fears Donald Trump apparently. Because I don't think Rubio, Cruz, or anyone else has what it takes to get votes for anyone past their extremists within the party. Trump has folks from both sides voting for him and while I do feel in the general election that people will find Hilary a safe haven to vote, it's astonishing how Trump is spoken about both critical and praise.

I'm entertained and not much more but the numbers do not lie, he gets ratings like no other politician, you can hate him all you want but you really are hating the American People and that's my bigger point. If you hate the Donald then you probably hate a good chunk of America. Doesn't make you a bad person but let's stop sugar coating it and get down to the root. This might not be the right thread but it's the GOP and a lot of those folks I am trying to make a connection with here.

I think GOP folks backing anyone outside of Trump are gonna be disappointed. My next question soon is going to be; if Trump does become the GOP nominee and you are a registered Republican or not, will you vote for Trump over Hilary? Do you think 51% of this country could vote for Trump?

I think people on the right who still care about the GOP and the country are also scared of Trump.

This weird feeling overcame me. I actually kinda liked Ted Cruz there.

I need a shower.

I haven't watched the video (perhaps I will later if I have time) but you know, I rather doubt the accuracy of this statement.

I enjoyed "I'm trying to show that Mandy speaks for a good chunk of the Left" despite having made no effort whatsoever to do so before or after the statement.

I first saw Mandy Patankin on stage in 1978 at the Schubert Theater in Los Angeles- he played Che in Evita. To this day, that still may be the best musical I've ever seen. Mandy was incredible, too.

I like the new avatar Tim, seriously you are the right guy to have that up.

Please fast forward the video to the 6:30 minute mark and just listen for the following 30-60 seconds, I promise that is exactly what Mandy says. Please don't treat me like I'm crazy if you won't even watch what I am quoting from and then you are saying Mandy didn't say that. He says exactly what I am telling you.

Tim, over the years I have earned a lot of the immense criticism and I swallow or take much of it, part of being a rebel rouse or someone who wants to try and show folks the light at times is going to be a huge amount of criticism from those opposed to your viewpoints.

Mandy wants Americans to blindly take these folks into their homes. He says it on the video. He talks about all the donations he and his wife are making and then encouraging others with a fraction of the wealth he has to shell out and take care of these folks.

Maybe that is the right thing to do, I'm not debating that right now, more about what Mandy said first. We can't even establish what is on the video because many refuse to watch a quality program like Charlie Rose. I bet none of you watch Tavis much either.

1st rate actor, hard to find a better return on the dollar spent hiring him, that's not the issue here.

What exactly IS the issue here? James Woods is crazier than a ####house rat but nobody thinks Republicans are accountable for his insanity. The guy leading the GOP primary polls by double digits, on the other hand ...

Who the hell cares what he says though? It's ridiculous to use as a comparison to the treatment that the equally unqualified and unhinged front runner for the GOP nomination receives every time he makes a ridiculous statement aimed at nothing more than keeping his name above the fold every day. False equivalence example number ten million.

Kenny Rogers apparently likes Donald Trump...

I guess I think Charlie Rose matters or at the upper echelon of programming i wish more folks were watching. I would bet a large sector of the Rose audience agreed with Mandy, that's what I am trying to encourage is more awareness of the folks who say their conservative to call on the carpet some of these statements.

Trump is such a crazy man to many and he is as are ALL politicians in a sense. The difference here to some folks is I think that they think Trump is an outsider but he really isn't. He has most of these politicians in his back pocket thru donations over the years. Apparently Trump did not think he was getting a return on his investment.

I like Trump in the race because it spotlights everything wrong with both parties and the system in general. I know he is a money tycoon that doesn't really give a spit about me but that is how all politicians are long before he entered. I think the whole system needs to be turned on its head so in that sense I am enjoying this unfolding.

But I believe at some point next summer most Americans are going to look around financially and want everything to pretty much stay as it is. Things are a lot better than folks want to say but I also understand it is still a brutal harsh place for those that did not invest their down time in the last few years on things like furthering their education and professional licenses.

Didn't you hear? MoP is a rebel rouse, he tells us the hard truths we don't want to hear. A soothsayer, if you will.
At least the man says his opinions and shows his work. You on the other hand not only fail to turn in any assignments but then have the audacity to criticize those that actually turned in their work. Now I get you like to yank my chain but I would appreciate it in the future if you would at least share an actual idea and expand or enhance the discussion.

You can't just keep saying this and then assuming it's true. And I don't know what it has to do with the GOP anyway.

Nope, sorry. You don't get to play "I just hate the system!" if you're supporting a man who thinks and says what Trump thinks and says. There are plenty of outsider "let's upend the system" options, both now and in other recent elections. At some point you (meaning all GOP voters) are accountable for the particular outsider option they've chosen. Otherwise aren't you just part of the problem? Here you are with a powerful tool to actually change the system every time you go into the ballot box and you're using it to vote for a bigoted huckster. IMO you kind of lose the right to complain about the system if that's what you do with your opportunity to change it.

Can you direct me to where he showed his work on how he's gonna pay for the mass deportation efforts? Or how about where he showed his work on how he's going to determine who is a Muslim and therefore should be barred from entry into the US? Those are probably his two positions that have most resonated with GOP voters, so if you say he shows his work surely he's at least done so to back those up, right?

He's funding the entire construction of that wall along the southern border, too, right? Materials and labor?

Confusing support with popcorn I think

And I guess if I don't condemn Trump then I am a racist or automatically a supporter? Can you unwrap that further or at least retract the statement.

I say that because TF, that type of thinking is no different than the Jerry Sandusky folks who felt the need to blare on a megaphone everywhere that they were against child rape. This is like having to actually come out and say I do not condone murderers. I didn't know that was a requirement.

I don't understand how a Hollywood Elite who was interviewed in depth on a very relevant and current topic isn't something to discuss in a political thread. I know this is the GOP, I thought I might find some open minded folks in here who could digest a Charlie Rose interview and discuss some of this.

I didn't say you were a racist so I don't know why or how I'd retract it. I assumed you were supporting him because you said you like that he is in the race. That sounded like support to me, but I guess maybe it's not? Doesn't really matter, just replace "support" with "condone" in my post and nothing really changes. I wasn't talking about Trump...I don't like to acknowledge trolls by name so I'll use 3rd person to keep an arms length distance. I rarely respond or call posters by name but if we did a search on how many times they like to inject my 3 initials into the post it would be a lengthy list. I'm not wanting sympathy, I created the MOP and all that comes with it. If I wasn't good at it they wouldn't post my name as much.

I attack ideas/opposing views but not individuals. I teach my kids in class to defend their values and opinions, because if they won't stand for something they will fall for anything. You can say what you want in my class but you better be ready to defend your position.

:P

MOP, you have now, in your discussions today about Donald Trump and the GOP, brought up Mandy Patankin, Jodie Foster in The Accused, and Jerry Sandusky.

"I'm not saying you're a RACIST!...but you're a racist"

I'm kidding. I like him in the race because it makes everyone else uncomfortable. There I'll say it, I enjoy watching the look of discomfort on peoples faces whenever he is on screen or appears and people start to panic and say incredible fearful things about someone they claim is a fear mongering, war mongering, racist mongering dude. Bill Burr the comedian has a pretty good summary of this. Donald Trump is like Donald Sterling, 65-70 year old white guy, stick a mic in his face 24/7, you're gonna hear a little racism.

I'm just fascinated that folks are so shocked how racist much of the country still is. And people want to be offended by it. Pretty soon it will not be safe to speak your mind, what you're truly thinking in this country. I get in trouble because I have no filter in real life between the brain and the mouth. If I think it I blurt it out, bad bad bad...and its never racism, it's the Swedish Fish and Tuna Cans that wreck me. It's having to co habitat with people who have no awareness of others around them in public because they are texting the son of a ##### walking right next to him.

-Get off my lawn!

Right?

How dare people get offended when people make racist comments about them!?!

Pretty soon I won't even be able to tell my secretary she has a great rack without getting a call from HR!

It's a good question Tim. It's Christmas and I should be doing other things but I'm here arguing politics so i guess I'm cranky.

I got fired up when Rose interviewed Mandy last night. I watch Rose interview a lot of political leaders around the Globe, I like to be informed and CNN/Fox and the like don't cut it. Mandy is an actor not a political figurehead but he has a lot of influence from his position thru film and TV.

I thought it was interesting but others may not. Rose has a very niche audience and I'm one of them, it is slanted somewhat Left as is one of my other favs, Politically Incorrect. I have to accept and listen to a lot of Conservative hatred but I think it's worth it to get the truth or opposite views to try and understand what makes people tick.

I believe in Psychology more than most and I find it fascinating. We are just scratching the surface and I am interested in trying to figure out patterns to folks behavior including mine. How some folks think we should be dropping more bombs and others feel we should be standing on the shores with open arms, am I the only person seeing this? I can't be.

It's too bad that the cartoon will overshadow a very legitimate issue of candidates who exploit their families for political gain. Ted Cruz is using his kids as props like no other candidate has ever done before.
I disagree, all politicians put their children on display. The cartoon is not appropriate for the Post.

I don't know. On MSNBC this morning , they slammed this cartoon and showed Obama's extensive use of his children in 2008 campaign events as a comparison.

The good news for the Cruz campaign is its not much of a shot and it plays really well for him. He already is using it in his fundraising efforts and it is attracting a lot of attention.
