Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (3 Viewers)

He does better outside of the debates anyway. The rest of the candidates are going to spend a lot of time talking about Trump. Kind of a win-win for him.

One more thing...can the political pundits and political junkies quit trotting out the tiresome and woefully desperate mantra that Trump is afraid of Megyn Kelly and if he can't handle a journalist how can he handle a dictator...

It is so off base and comical. I can't believe people really believe that Trump is afraid of Kelly.

Him skipping (or saying he is skipping) the debate really doesn't have much at all to do with Kelly. So funny to see these talking heads think they are playing chess when they are really playing checkers.

Let's see hot girl beats up tough guy.

Tough guy calls her names after the fact.

Tough guy says he's not scared of her, calls her more names.

Hot girl says show up at 800 pm on x date.

Tough guy says, nah, he can't make it, he has to wash his toupee that night.

Ok.

Donald's in complete command of the news cycle. Cruz just challenged him to a 1 on 1 debate. Smart move by Cruz to try and reset the narrative for the next couple days. He needs to make up ground at Trump's expense, it's going to be hard to do when Trump isn't even there and Cruz realizes that.

Right. Bill Clinton was going to put Trump in his place, too.

How did that work out after Trump punched him in the mouth?

You are welcome to your perspective and your perception of events. I remember Megyn Kelly going on vacation after a legion of pissed of Republicans blew up the corporate headquarters of Fox News.

This is a tactical decision to send various messages to the media, the GOP base and the general electorate.

I won't rehash what I have written numerous times in these threads...but his base is pissed off and beyond angry. They are looking for a tough son of a ##### who is going to throw punches and fight back. The last thing they are looking for is your typical GOP ##### who rolls over and plays the patsy.

So running away as he is...that is a way to fight back?

You would make a great Trump spokesperson with this spin.

Trumps not running from the fight. Trump IS the fight. From his point of view, attending is caving and announcing he's not showing up is fighting.

Because someone asked him a question he didn't like? How do you not see how thin-skinned he is, and how do you not fear for the implications of this behavior by the leader of the free world?

I think Cruz would lose by a wider margin personally. If it's Bernie though all bets are off on what could happen.

Not a lot of folks see it that way. Instead, the perception is that Trump is content with where he is situated in the race, and he doesn't want to risk getting roughed up by Cruz/ Kelly. Ailes gave him a way out and he took it.
From what I've seen tonight, the Trump supporters love it, those in the other camps don't. I'm not sure how that hurts him on first blush. If anything, it makes his supporters feel he's now fighting Roger Ailes from the media as well. It may actually flip the script on the way Ted Cruz was beginning to attack him as being more in line with the "establishment".

The Trump fans would love it no matter what.

He could take a dump on stage, wipe with the flag and they would find a way to defend it.

I think we've already established that Trump's supporters would love whatever the hell he did. If he showed up to the debate and literally flung his poop at Megyn Kelly we'd have Trumpites here praising how he dominated the news cycle.

He needs more supporters though. This will not accomplish that objective.
So you think. I would have thought so about his McCain comments. To me that was much worse than this. I personally hate Roger Ailes so I think this is hilarious. I'm not planning on voting for Trump in the primary, but I can see the play here. He needs no more supporters in Iowa just as long as his that he has now show up. This keeps the other candidates stuck for a couple of days and if Fox turns on him, it only drives up the intensity of his supporters. Sure it could backfire, but I get what he's trying to do and the fact that everyone is talking about it whether or not they support him, has already had its intended consequence.

Dammit!

I feel we really haven't explored all the possibilities that Trump could accomplish with his poop.

Megyn Kelly is due to show up at the debate. She will be there.

Serious question - will Trump even show up to debate Hillary? What's he going to do, tweet at her while she soaks up 2 hours of free air time?

Your boy can't even be counted on.

I'll take the hot Irish girl who reminds me of the tough, smart, hard working, gorgeous women I have in my family. You can have the rich, selfish, draft dodging, petulant ##### of a playboy with orange skin and fake hair who has never lived an hour of the life the poor saps who are cheering him on have to slog through day in, day out.

Because someone asked him a question he didn't like? How do you not see how thin-skinned he is, and how do you not fear for the implications of this behavior by the leader of the free world?
Let me be clear. I think Donald has some thin skin at times. I just don't think that this is one of those situations.

Trump has basically been telegraphing something like this since right after the first debate. He was boycotting Fox News and then just certain personalities on Fox. And he was mentioning in the past about how those hosting the debates should give some money to charity because they are making millions off of him.

It is funny that these media outlets want to bash the #### out of Trump and basically abuse him with mockery and insults...at the same time they are eating up all the cash he is bringing in for them.

As a hard core member of the GOP base I am sure it is no secret to you or anyone else that I am not a big fan of the media. I don't think I did so in here...maybe it was on my Facebook feed only (because I know I said it there) before Trump even mentioned anything that he should boycott or demand some sort of monetary compensation. LOL.

At the end of the day, Fox News (which many of those on the left in here can't stand) behaved very unprofessionally with that press release. It was very childish.

Moreover, the GOP voters responded overwhelmingly negative when CNBC pulled their shenanigans. The GOP threatened to boycott NBC for future debates and actually followed through on the promise. Are they "afraid" of the hard hitting journalists at NBC?

Many people like me have longed for a Republican candidate that will roll up their sleeves and get their knuckles bloody. None of our guys ever really want to fight. They are soft in general. McCain was soft. Romney was soft. The GOP In Congress is soft. The RNC leadership is soft. They are all soft.

Our side feels (others will disagree) that our guys get bullied by the media and that we are always responding to their narrative and playing defense.

I don't know why you would be sick of hearing it if you think that it is ultimately going to get trounced? You should be eating it up.

I am not sure why you are addressing me as if you think I would be swayed by the GOP getting trounced when I have told you that I would love to see the GOP destroyed. That was one of the reasons why I was puzzled when sho nuff suggested I would vote for anyone with an R.

I have absolutely loved the short hair look that she has been rocking lately. God she is beautiful.

I kind of think this is Trump's message to the GOP....she didnt treat him "fairly" so hes out of the debate....if the GOP doesnt treat him "fairly" then he will bail on the pledge and he will run as a 3rd party nuking their candidate...seems like a power play move to me.

Trump haters (Republicans and Dems) say that Trump is afraid, not fit to lead, can't handle the tough questions because he won't go on a do a debate after he has already done a half dozen.

Meanwhile...the Democrats have never had a presidential debate on Fox News (correct me if I am wrong).

Nothing about thin skin, temper tantrums, can't handle Putin, avoiding job interviews...yada yada yada

:lmao:

When Trump is in the debate...the GOP candidates complain that they don't get any time and that there is too much attention on Trump. When Trump says he won't show...and thus give them more time to talk about their issues...they want to complain. LOL

Christie and Rubio both are happy to have more time for themselves. Both avoided really knocking Trump.

Just listened to Rubio and he seemed happy about it. Christie I heard earlier knocking Trump for it on Fox.

Ok so what?

No kidding, he twists the media, the tail wags the dog. He's invented a fake controversy yet again and the media swirls like the bottom of an infinite toilet.

However it is also true that Kelly was on the brink of facing him down and shaming him and the Republicans were waiting in line to expose him and beat him with his past words in a full on Code Red.

Both things and all of them are true.

Shots will be taken at Trump along the lines of how can he stand up to Putin when he can't face Megyn Kelly. While true, there is more downside to a debate appearance at this point - and pulling out of it upsets the plans of his opponents and anything they were saving for this last shot before the voting.

Trump gets to cast himself against the establishment and media - which shoulf play fine with his crowd.

Cruz's quick play was hus best option under the circumstance. Trump will brush it off as a desperate move by a flailing loser which may or may not playm

Anybody that is not one of those two is pretty much diminished. And for them the battle is essentially the same - all the establishment guys will still have to bash each other to try to be #3 - Cruz might just get off light in the debate now.

He's succeeded already in his goal. Hillary supporters, Bernie supporters, Cruz supporters, Trump supporters, they are all talking about it. This wasn't done in anger or a fit, it was calculated. I know some may disagree, but I'd submit this isn't much different from the way he's run his campaign this entire time. He's painting a picture of a guy who says and does what he thinks and isn't afraid to stand up to anyone. Everyone who is anti-Trump is focusing on Megyn Kelly, he's going to spin this as him going against Fox News as a whole and Roger Ailes. He manipulates the media and situation to fit the narrative he wants. Maybe this time will be different but so far he hasn't failed in doing just that.

As far as this situation, It's all over the political news. It's the story for the next 48 hours. In the meantime, no other candidate is going to get good traction for his/her views during this period. He feels like he's ahead in Iowa and this freezes things for the time being while putting him at odds with Fox News. This isn't to convince Cruz supporters to switch over to Trump. Even if he gets raked over the coals at the debate, he easily can say now that Fox News was against him so it was obvious that was their intent from the start and just dismiss it.

I have no idea if his poll support shows up on caucus night, but the criticism he's going to get from the other camps are only going to increase the voter intensity for him. The biggest risk here is if he's miscalculated and this somehow costs him with undecideds. But in my mind, he's already did what he was trying to do, the only question now is will the result also be what he is hoping. Say what you will, he is totally dictating the discussion and topics in the media. I'm not supporting him and yet I'm discussing it too. You don't have to approve of or support Donald Trump to see and appreciate what he's doing.

The problem with Trump and Putin isn't that he can't match him - and he can't - the problem is he admires him.

You get it.There is only a week left and Trump will now occupy at least the next 48 hours of the news cycle. It will be a total blackout of the other candidates. ETA: and then he will be back in the debate because Old Roger made things right! LMAO :tebow:

And you are right...smart move by Cruz.

He is willing to tell Fox News to eff out. I love it and I don't think I am alone. This is the same channel that has been pouring the Kool Aid for the establishment for quite some time.
I disagree with most of your politics SIDA but this is spot on analysis of the situation from a campaign race perspective.-QG

True. So the artful dodge is the right move.

Just a reminder: the Artful Dodger was a criminal pickpocket.

So is this guy.

I don't think this is a fake controversy.

It wasn't just Trump that felt that Megyn Kelly was biased against Trump. Many people watching that first Fox debate felt that Fox crossed the line. This wasn't a made up controversy. It was a real controversy and the first time that Fox received a major backlash from its viewership.

He boycotted Fox News after that and I think he is still boycotting programs on that channel.

Kelly goes on "vacation" and there are peace negotiations that take place afterwards.

The entire GOP boycotts NBC because of the CNBC debate due to bias and skewed questioning...but because one candidate feels unfairly maligned and not able to get a fair shake is now scared or incapable of leading?

The whole notion that the media is comparable to Putin or negotiating with dictators is so preposterously absurd. But if failing to go on Fox for a debate means you aren't eligible to be president of the United States...how about we ban the entire Democrat Party?

Hannity is having a meltdown tonight. He sounds so butt hurt right now. It is almost like he thinks Trump's eff off to the Fox News debate is a personal attack on him.

:lmao:

The same guy who is saying that Trump or any candidate doesn't have the right to tell a network who their moderators should be was all in on the CNBC/NBC boycott. That was okay...alright, Sean!

Him and Tucker Carlson are so perplexed...how can Trump be fighting against "us"!

So true I've been laughing about it all night.

He is. I'm pretty sure that Trump will do this to all his supporters in the end.

He very well might.

I am strongly considering voting for him and I have no idea if he will follow through on anything that I care about.

:lmao:

I would respect his decision if he was boycotting FOX altogether but he was on two different shows yesterday.

He's a thin skinned baby.

One day you guys are gonna get it. This is all a big #### show. It's like sitting down and watching "Real Housewives of ________________" and thinking it's real.

Also true.

Just to be clear my color commentary on this does not imply for any of these people.

Guys we're burying the lede. Gilmorementum is in full effect as he is primed and ready to conquer the kids table!

Who else in the field can claim to have moved up 5 spots since his campaign began?

Why?

Some hosts are fair to him. Some aren't.

Though there is a lot of anger by the gop base towards Fox, it is still the only place they can go to get decent news. Though that trust is starting to deteriorate.

Many folks on the left and right have been unaware of the fissure developing between GOP voters and Fox.

And for those who aren't aware it has to do with. ...wait for it. ..the illegal immigration issue.

Fox has been moving more and more toward big business globalism on this position over the years and many started viewing Fox skeptically as a result.

This is not shocking news nor should it be seen as a knee jerk reaction. This has been mulled over for months.
