Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (1 Viewer)

Washington (CNN)John Kasich said Jeb Bush's campaign is "freaking out" and needs "to relax a little bit" after upping its attacks against the Ohio governor.
"They're getting more and more desperate. They need to relax a little bit. You know, it's just an election, a campaign. It's like they're freaking out. Calm down, Bush people. It's not that serious," he told CNN's John Berman and Kate Bolduan Tuesday on CNN's "At This Hour."

Kasich, who has staked his hopes a good finish in Tuesday's New Hampshire primary, said millions have been spent against him by supporters of his opponents, including Bush.

But the Ohio governor said he is confident that he will do well in the Granite State despite the recent negative ad blitz.

"It's a shame when you see people take the low road to the highest office in the land. But I've decided not to do it," he said. "We feel the momentum. And we'll see what happens. And we'll live with the results. But there will be no regrets in the Kasich campaign for all the work we've put in, the positivity of all of it."

Kasich said he plans on heading to South Carolina following Tuesday's results.

"We're going to be changing some snowshoes for some flip-flops and we're going to go from fried clams to jambalaya," he said.

Actually respect that attitude.

Me too. The bolded is probably not the best tag line right be fore a vote but whatever.

So you R's, if you win the WH, you will have control of the Presidency, the Senate and the House. Give me your top 10 things that will change for the good. Even 5 if you can muster up that many. For example, 'The debt will start to be paid down'. 'Wages will go up'. 'Taxes for middle class will be cut.' 'Cuts will be made to welfare losers'.

Just tell me how glorious it's going to be with R's running everything.

You can't use 'we will get to keep our guns' because you were never losing them anyway or negatives like 'raising the SS retirement age'.

I'm trying to figure out why I would vote in a loser like Rubio or Cruz in case one of those 2 hammerheads somehow gets the nomination over Trump.
So far no R can answer the question. irishidiot gave it a run but came up short. Ok, losers, quit your ####### goose stepping and think for yourself.

On Meet The Press, Hugh Hewitt Claims Rubio "Won All Of That Debate" Except For Christie Conflict

HUGH HEWITT: Donald Trump won Tuesday night because he did not lose Saturday night, and I think John Kasich pole vaulted over Marco Rubio into second place by being winsome and completely affable and very New Hampshire, but I'm a contrarian on Rubio, he won all of that debate except those three minutes. That will push him back, but he had a terrific second half. And I think he'll get the bronze come Tuesday night.
So, basically, Rubio will win again by placing third. Thanks, Hugh.
Hewitt's idol, Mitt Romney, used the same verbiage in 2008- when he came in second, he called it "getting the Silver", When he came in 3rd, it was "getting the Bronze." The trouble was there were no Golds.

Maybe but Christie doesn't bring anything to a ticket as a VP except attack dog. He so thoroughly made fun of the idea of being Romney's VP that it is going to come back to bite him, he won't carry New Jersey either. I don't know if he would be a good VP choice.

Cruz can't pick him because that team would never work. Trump couldn't either. If Kasich gets the nom he needs someone from the south (Rubio is perfect at this point, although I still like Suzanna Martinez for the VP slot more than anyone. If Rubio gets the nom he would be foolish not to pick Kasich as that would be a formidable team and look a lot similar to Obama Biden with the VP bringing a ton of experience to the ticket and is also someone that knows how to work with Congress. Christie doesn't do that for Rubio, and I'm not sure Rubio could control Christie - which is another problem with him as a VP for anyone.
Christie makes more sense as Attorney General.
Oh god please no.
Did you guys know that Christie used to be a federal prosecutor?

Polling data showing 1) Trump 2) Rubio 3 Tied) Cruz/Kasich (with Kasich surging) 5) Bush distant 6) Christie 7) Fiorina 8) Carson (all but out of the race. Likely has some cash to keep him going from being so high in polls earlier but pretty much seems like his candidacy is done)
Interesting - is this post-debate?
Average of the last 5 most recent polls with a trend line and graph showing where the polls ended up. Rubio was actually pretty static- more so than anyone else. Kasich was all over but the trend line showed a pretty obvious move upward recently.

And there you have it.

The GOP is completely out of ideas.

All they have at this point is railing against whatever the progressives are pushing for.

In all seriousness, what are the new ideas of the Republican party?

Lower taxes, immigration reform (if you can call a giant wall reform). Neither of these are remotely new.

Wealth redistribution is cutting edge....where do I sign up, bro?

Maybe it's just me, but I think R.U.B.I.O.* would be funnier than "Marco Roboto" or "Robot Rubio" or whatever.

C'mon tim. Your idol , the big dog , did this in NH. He kept saying he was "playing for the bronze" and when he finished second he suddenly calls himself the comeback kid during his post election . Cripes what a pantload

Ok. We have 1. Of course, this will only cause insurance premiums to rise. You ask why. The answer is because it will allow insurance companies to say the only thing keeping rates down was the UCA. They will take advantage of this to rake in more profits. Result. They profit from the act and then profit again on the repeal of the act. The R's will stand around with their mouth's open. The D's will say we told you so. Then they will all gather behind closed doors, laugh and high 5 each other at your expense.

I would be fine with this as long as there is a better alternative. Proceed.

Progress: Job openings for lower-skill workers are abundant in Maine, and for those ABAWD recipients who cannot find immediate employment, Maine offers both training and community service slots. But despite vigorous outreach efforts by the government to encourage participation, most childless adult recipients in Maine refused to participate in training or even to perform community service for six hours per week. When ABAWD recipients refused to participate, their food stamp benefits ceased.

 Every state needs to get on board and cut off these losers free ride.

Fairtax would also address some of he same issues brought up in this article (and more).

GOP has been 'against' change for a few cycles now. It's in the conservative ethos to not look to govt as the source of new ideas but rather to defend and protect liberties. Not surprising that the conservative side wouldn't have huge sweeping ideas for government programs or solutions.

The problem in politics is more than that but rather at any time you present any serious idea that can address issues it is immediately reviewed, analyzed, focus grouped and polled to figure out how it can be attacked. Not whether it is a good idea or not but how can it be defeated. This is politics and not a right/left thing. Because anything you do or say you want to do or at one point voted for or perhaps said something that can be taken out of context that says "Chadstroma hates homeless orphan children and wants them all to die." is blasted away for political purposes. Now the reality is that if anyone is really serious about attacking a problem there are going to be people who don't like it because if there were not people who benefited from the problem in some way then the problem would not exist. Add in the ideologues and partisanship and feed into that same thing along with a great many of the populace who either do not know, do not care or the most sad- care greatly and think they know but are dead wrong: and you have the mess we are in now.

I've see that stat about moderates for Trump on TV. I think they're using a bad definition. For the pollsters a moderate Republican is somebody who is pro-choice and/or gay marriage, or at least doesn't care about those issues but is conservative in other ways.

Anybody who shares Trump's views on immigration and Islam can hardly be called a moderate IMO.

Impossible since it hasn't been repealed yet.

Maybe - but saying moderates are supporting Trump over other GOP choices doesn't mean they think Trump is a moderate.

Carson, Fiorina and Christie have to be out after this.
I would add bush to the list but he has too much money and name recognition.

Been saying for a while that it needs pared down to Trump, Cruz, Kasich, Rubio, and I guess Bush (for now).

Can Kasich win Michigan and Pennsylvania?

A Kasich/Rubio ticket could win the general.

Bernie saying he's gonna pay for free stuff with a tax on Wall Street speculation is just like Trump saying Mexico is paying for the wall. This is good stuff.

Every NH poll out today...

Trump: 30-36% of the vote depending on the poll but unanimously he is running away in NH.

Rubio: 14-17% and in some polls he is running third. The next several are interchangeable.

Kasich: 9-17%, he has 3 polls with 9, 11, and 11 so his floor is below Rubio slightly at the moment.

Cruz: 9-16%, 9, 12, 13, 14...he is all over the place, maybe should have him bumped ahead of Kasich.

Bush: 7-13%, his numbers are low but if he withdrew I think most would go to Kasich. They are both successful state governors.

Christie: 4-6%, again where does his 5% go when he drop out?he and Bush are really not much more than 10-15% total. I think most would flow to Kasich, that would put Kasich as the establishment front runner. People will get keyed into Rubio looking like an idiot and eventually a couple of these guys need to go.

Bush is in until South Carolina, Christie could exit on Tue Night or Wed Morn. Cruz has little support outside of that early win, he might get a couple on Super Tuesday but it's not likely.

Trump is very beatable if Rubio, Kasich, Bush, Christie becomes 1 person getting close to 40%+ of the vote. I think that would push Cruz out and then it would be Donald vs the establishment which is what we all want to see I think.
Trump 34%

Kasich 16%

Cruz 12%

Bush 11%

Rubio 10%

Christie 8%

1/2 the voters were not Thinking Trump at all when they went into the voting booth. I can see Christie and Bush and Rubio having to get out of the way but Cruz is in it for a while. I could see Kasich getting to maybe 25% but Trump is going to still grab 1/3 of the vote or more in many states.
