Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (1 Viewer)

I value honesty . I have no use for liars , if a person tells a small lie , they can tell a large one just as easy.
Fair enough.  I thought you were a Trump supporter.  My mistake.

A shame.  I always enjoyed there being Helltoupee whenever someone bad mouthed Mitt.  :D

Last night we had the last debate before the SEC primary and it lived up to all the hype.  Say why you will, but Trump just makes these things a must-watch and the more Trump the better.

Couple of takeaways

- it is striking how often Cruz and Rubio refer to  Trump my his first name, I am convinced this is this is by design to remind voters that he is a complete cartoon character.

- weird that Trump only refers to Kasich as "the governor".  I think he forgot his name which isn't surprising

- also why does Trump always refer to Carson as Ben Carson and not Ben or Carson or something? Is he afraid that we'd think he is talking about Johnny Carson??

- Wolf Blitzen looks like a troll.  Not an Internet troll but literally a little weird thing that lives in a tree and make magic potions

- Love that Trump who lives in a tanning booth incubator told Rubio that he was wearing too much makeup before the debate

- we missed you Jeb!  sort of..

- somebody please mention Ben Carson's name at some point because the poor guy is dying up there.  But he spends more time #####ing about what he didn't get to say than actually saying what he wants to say.

Unlike Carson, the other six seed (Kasich) seems to get extra time when he does get to speak.  That bell never seems to ring which I attribute to how when you are bored the clock feels like it is standing still

-I keep hearing how Carson in brilliant but the more I see of him at these debates the more I think that if I needed a brain transplant, I may prefer Trump to do the surgery.    With that said I'd pay money to have him read "Goodnight Moon"

-Kasich, I think it is time that somebody takes John out back and tells him that just because he wants to come across as the every-man, doesn't mean he has to look like a schlep.  He wears a suit which looks like he shoved in his overhead bag and he looks like gets his haircuts at Supercuts and when he spends all his energy not doing his karate chop hands thing he loses focus and goes into his boring stump speech

Trump- at the end of the day, you want your candidate vetted and Trump is like ISIS right now, taking on all comers at once.  You cannot imagine how a guy with as little knowledge as he has, continues to dominate.  Yeah Marco had a couple of cute remarks but so did Trump and when he said that Marco was so nervous after his exchange with Christie last debate that he was sweating as if he had just gotten out of a pool does tell you that Marco is not quite as ready as you'd hope.

Cruz.  When 40% of voters in a major swing  State thing you might be the Zodiac Killer that is a problem.   He is near brilliant but so were most maniacs who have stared major world wars, and Cruz might be worse.  Worse than anything was the fact he kept coughing directly into the mic, dude cover your mouth what the hell are you some unsophisticated two pack-a-day ape??

I can't envision people liking that ticket.  They are both the big bully in the room.  And Christie really attacked the idea of him being a VP when Romney was running.  That is going to come back to bite him.  Or at least it should.  Who the hell knows anymore.
Doesn't make much sense picking two guys out of the northeast either. Trump needs somebody preferably from a  swing state with some foreign policy chops.

A Trump/Christie ticket?  Two loudmouth bullies from the greater NY/NJ metroplex?  Don't think that will fly in flyover land.

I believe the VP spot bringing in a certain demographic or a state is way overrated.  I don't think Christie hurts Trump, nobody who hates Trump would vote for him because Kasich is his running mate.

Trump getting pissy at a couple protesters at his rally. Liked the Make America Hate again sign. All the Texas rednecks in the audience got pretty riled up there.

Have to admire Rubio for firing right back and laughing at Donald.
Really..do you admire people laughing at the mentally handicap......Because laughing at Trump has that same effect, it turns people off and only makes them like Trump more...Rubio is going to find out his tactic backfired.

Nice TimSpin there.  All he was doing was showing he can take a punch and return it.  Not the take a punch and look weak like Jeb did when fired upon.

Possibly the most accurate thing you've ever posted.

If Christie is his VP choice, he will lose my vote to Gary Johnson.

Christie vowed to sic the DEA on Colorado, Washington, etc because of legal weed.

Right. If Christie just takes the AG role, he will HUGELY ramp up the war on drugs. He's promised to do that.

Christie would be a nightmare of an AG.

I'd be worried that you might have too close of a relationship with the banks.

Oh...Trump got his zingers in for sure.

But, Rubio is fighting for the anti-Trump vote. And by anti-Trump ...I don't mean those who are literally anti-Trump...just all the ones who are currently supporting Cruz, Kasich and Carson. So, he needs to do something to draw support from those other bases.

As I said months ago, Trumps numbers are only going to go up because his base is like cement. They are locked in and there is really nothing he can do or say to lose them. That is why it is funny when I see the left try to ridicule Trump's supporters about how he takes them for granted or the whole shoot someone on 5th avenue comment. It is still funny to me that the left and the GOP elite think Trump's supporters are nothing but manipulated simpletons when they have been dying to get this sort of passionate and fervent support for their past candidates.

The GOP has cancer right now. One side thinks Trump is the cancer. The other side thinks he is the cure.
Here is the quote you were looking for:

Trump is like chemotherapy. Lots of side effects, but amongst our only chances to fight the cancer.

And again, many chemo drugs kill more than just the cancer.  Thats Trump.  He may get the cancer, but will take out a lot of the good cells too.

David Gergen on CNN just brought up a good point.  The overwhelming majority of the mainstream media is going with the narrative that Rubio won last night's debate.  But the data suggests otherwise.  The largest live poll run by Time Magazine - with 64,000 respondents, had Trump winning by a huge margin - 69% versus 20% for Rubio.  Lots of flaws with online polls, but the sheer numbers here are significant.  http://time.com/4238254/republican-debate-tenth-poll-survey/

There is no rational person who watched that and thought Trump won.

This has the "been there done that" feeling..

When Ventura ran for Governor it was "they say it can't be done" and people said "screw the establishment vote for Ventura" and he won and ran around celebrating and :bowtie:

Then he had to actual govern and people started to,  and still do wonder ..WTF did we do?

Only this time it is on a MUCH bigger scale. :oldunsure:

For those that seem to be confused about why Trump has generated the biggest political movement this cycle.

1) Many Americans feel left out of Washington politics, the establishment has failed them

2) They are worried about terrorism

3) They are worried about individual freedom protection

4) They are worried about the disappearance of jobs for the middle class

5) They are worried about our insecure borders

There is more to it, but using words like bigot/racist etc, not only demonstrate your ignorance about this political phenomenon but your unwillingness to understand it.
It's funny how you and others keep repeating this, and telling us that we don't get it. YOU'RE the one who doesn't get it. You just listed a bunch of reasons that you're supporting a bigot and a racist. Those reasons are not sufficient. They may explain your support, but they don't excuse your support. Whatever reasons you want to come up with, you're supporting a bigot and a racist. For the rest of your lives, you'll have to live with that shame.

It's probably very similar, but there's two differences:

1. So far as I know, Ventura was not a bigot.

2. All Ventura could do is screw up a single state.

How are you defining "won"?   My impression is that Trump is still likely to win most of the Super Tuesday states, and that last night didn't diminish his chances.

I didn't see last night's debate but I've watched most of the other ones.  And generally, Trump comes across poorly, in my opinion.  But you don't win a Republican debate by appealing to me.  His poll numbers generally seem to go up each time.  That's "winning."

I heard today that Clinton's internal polling shows huge leads for Hillary vs. Trump in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin. If she wins those states, and I think she will, it's going to be a wipeout.
I wouldn't be so confident.  Trump is getting bigger and bigger with each passing day.  None of the old rules apply to Trump.  I've said it from day 1.

Part of what makes this election season so awesome is that I think you can tell plausible stories where Hillary destroys Trump or where Trump destroys Hillary.  And it's possible for reasonable people to feel strongly that Hillary's the better general election candidate for the Dems, or that Bernie is.  Or that Trump is best for the Reps, or that Rubio is.  It's all so unpredictable and speculative.

Sure, four years ago we had some people arguing Romney would win because "the polls are skewed", but I think they were sort of considered fringe at the time and most of us didn't think they were credible at all.  This year is different.  From day to day my opinion changes on this stuff.

I agree that a lot of the "old rules" don't apply to Trump and that's why his GOP competitors have had a hard time attacking him, particularly because they didn't seem to take the threat seriously for a long time.  But Hillary and Bernie have 8 months to figure out the "new rules.'  It's hard for me to believe that there aren't any ways to take Trump down.

I agree with this. One of the "new rules" that applies to Trump is that Hispanic Americans are going to vote in numbers in this election at a higher number than ever in history, and they are going to be highly energized and motivated because of Trump. And their disapproval rate of Trump is at 80% or 90%, depending on which poll you believe.
