Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (3 Viewers)

After watching that interview with Rubio it seems obvious that even he realizes he can't get the required number of delegates, this is all about trying to deny Trump.

Yep, the pout is all over his face. I am sure he feels like he was the chosen one by the GOP establishment, yet is being clobbered by an outsider. 

 
GOP is ####ed.  Not only is a guy they absolutely despise way out in front, but the second most viable candidate isn't their guy either.  Pretty incredible stuff here.

I still think he'll be around.  Maybe not in the next cycle but even in 2024 he'll only be 52-53.  Still young in the presidential scheme.

I don't think it's healthy for this nation if a President is basically elected by only white people and all the minorities voted against him. Please explain why this is a "sick-minded" view.

If I'm Rubio I live to fight another day.  IMHO whomever is elected the next president is getting a four year term, so at worst he waits eight years to run again and get more experience in the relative areas of importance.  He'll only be 53, and if Hillary wins, he could run again in 2020.

This whole shtick of going to the convention and basically trying to get the establishment to try and give him the nod is gonna result in a Hillary landslide in November.  I mean 48 states massacre with Trump getting two (Oklahoma and Montana) as an independent.

If I am Rubio...I seriously think about dropping out before Florida. You don't want to lose your home state and then try to run another political campaign in the future...be it another run for president or governor or whatever.

Agreed.  He really could be jeopardizing any chance to run in the future, especially if he loses big in FLA.  Bret Baer brought up a good point in that the border areas of Georgia and Alabama that share radio and TV with Florida overwhelmingly went to Trump tonight.  If Trump wins Florida handily and Cruz finishes within striking distance of Rubio, why would the GOP ever back him again?  He's young, he's a sharp guy, he's just not ready yet.  Maybe someday he will be and that ship may have sailed after what has transpired in this race.

I heard Rick Scott is planning on endorsing Trump.  Not sure if this is confirmed yet but if so I'd think he's reading the tea leaves in the state.

Also talked about as a potential VP but it seems Christie is working on that. At one time Christie was thought of as the future face of the party...he was pretty hot about 4-8 years ago. 

Scott will endorse Trump and DT is going to sweep Florida, Rubio isn't even liked in his home state. DT has a 20 point lead, it's turning into a rout.

No way in hell. He's putting all his chips in this race. His team is planning for a convention fight. He has zero desire to be the Huckabee, Santorum, or Perry of future races. I honestly think he doesn't like being a senator  - he's got nothing else.

I don't think Trump would have a guy from his area be VP.  As someone pointed out a few days back, Christie is angling for the Attorney General position.  Trump's VP will be from a battleground state like Ohio, Florida, or Virginia.

Scott is one of the least popular governors in the nation. His endorsement doesn't help Trump, not that he needs it anyway. I don't think VP Scott would help Trump in the general election either.

Scott has a lot to brag about over his 8 years running this place. I can understand and respect not everyone likes him but the guy has kicked serious tail since he took office. he has created a lot of jobs and expanded the Florida economy since he took office. I highly disagree with his social policies and the way he treats poor folks is pretty harsh but Scott believes in hard work and self reliance, those are old school GOP values that carry some weight with certain folks. Not everyone just wants a handout and Scott is not handout friendly for many. 

I want to be clear SoBe, I don't like/love the guy but I respect what he has done in terms of the Florida Economy and that does weigh heavy in my opinions of candidates.

Thanks DD, good info. I agree with you but I don't think Trump needs anyone for Florida, he is wildly popular there. 

I have said this before but the usual Democrat strongholds in New York and California are potentially up for grabs this November, that would be soul crushing for the DNC if they lose either or both of those states. 

 
Cruz on CNN...I've won in three very different states: Texas, Oklahoma, and Iowa

I don't think Iowa and Oklahoma are a lot different, and despite what the people in Oklahoma and Texas think, those two states are EXACTLY THE SAME. 

Cruz would have been a master at selling annuities, insurance, or used cars.  :lmao:

If Donald Trump is telling the truth about a single thing it is that Ted Cruz is a liar.

 
Say what you want about CNN, but they have roasted Trump, Rubio, and Cruz in the past 72 hours.  No softball questions for Rubio like on Fox, no dumb shtick like on MSNBC.  CNN and CBS News are the only news networks that actually try to be neutral IMO.

Trump was talking nice about him tonight, it was a good move IMHO. he has to gauge at some point if a Ted Cruz VP helps or hurts because to the avg Joe I think Trump Cruz has the makings of Arnold/Jesse Ventura. 

Cruz doesn't get along with a lot of Congress and is polarizing. Vice Presidents just pour tea in the other wing of the White House and bide their time, can't see Cruz doing that. 

I also will say that assassination attempts are going to be a much higher % for Trump than a lot of others IMHO. The VP candidate needs to be a lot more selective than say most of the GOP folks crashing the booth have the last month. I'm not trying to be morbid or Mr Predictor but Trump has a lot of enemies and he is going to need to some serious security.

Unhealthy is not what you said. You said that democracy working is a catastrophe. You are so far gone that 98% of blacks voting for Obama is A-OK, but 60% of whites voting for Trump is a CATASTROPHE? You are seriously messed up. I joke around with you but I still have some modicum of respect for you. Like I said, I just lost a little respect for you is all.

Your side generally has more guns, really just math. 

From what I see via Facebook where I know people's politics (and being a vet I have a lot of righty friends), it seems my establishment GOP friends and family dislike the thought of Trump more than my lefty friends.  Trump is getting the nod IMO, so I will be very curious to see what the Rubio types say when it's Hillary v Trump.  This election is just a string of :popcorn: ops.

The notion that it could lead to an upheaval in the House/Senate...let's reflect on the Trump talking points and why he is even here to begin with...none of them including Trade, Border Control, Immigration, none of those topics is going the Liberals' way but suddenly this country has a big thirst for Liberalism and Socialism in the House and Senate while simultaneously voting in one of the most conservative Presidents in the last 25 years. That is really a leap of faith not usually associated with the DNC. Maybe the DNC should worry about the possibility of their party imploding and the GOP. Trump will work a deal with the folks who are grumpy right now in the GOP, they'll hold their nose and make faces but they will fall in line at some point.

I have been really impressed with their analysis/programming...except for that 8 person panel nonsense. Though they seemed to iron that out a bit lately.
