Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (4 Viewers)

That, to me, is what is going to be interesting to see.. I, along with others, were thinking that if Rubio was out his percentage of votes would have gone to Cruz..

But in reality, Rubio and Kasich view points on things are a lot more similar then Cruz and Rubio's.. So now, will his voters arrive to vote for Cruz, Kasich, or a mix?

That's what I would assume. Cruz is supposedly "anti-establishment" and Kasich/Rubio are more closely aligned.

I finally found out today how his combover works. The hair on top of his head is actually from the back that he combs forward that intersects with hair from the side. The miracle of it is how he makes it appear that the hair up top is combed front to back. A true optical illusion. There are four basic moves but the everything is done to make that hair up top appear as if it's combed back when it's actually combed toward the front. Very impressive.

On the establishment vs anti-establishment axis, Rubio aligns more with Kasich. But on the conservative v moderate axis, he aligns more with Cruz. So... who knows?

My great liberal leaders?

Good one.

If Trump has the majority of the delegates and the Republican leaders do not have him as the nominee, I suspect these things will happen:

1.  Trump will run as an independent (This alone makes this whole idea of the RNC choosing someone else pretty moot in my opinion.  If Trump runs as an independent, it's guaranteed that Hillary Clinton wins the election).

2.  The Republican party will disenfranchise even more voters.  To the point that a lot of them will pass on voting for the presidency at all.

1. So what, they will lose anyway, at least it will be an honorable loss and they can expurgate the poison.

2. This is the greater danger for them. Preibus should have seen this before the first debate last summer and driven him out then.

Rubio's supporter has dropped his ballot challenge against Kasich in Pennsylvania. While Kasich has a better chance to defeat Trump there than does Cruz, I'm concerned that Kasich will split the #NeverTrump vote, thereby gifting Trump victories in upcoming WTA/ WTM contests (e.g., Arizona, Wisconsin). I just hope that Kasich's strength in the Northeast/ Mid-Atlantic more than compensates for the negative impact that his presence will have on Cruz in the West/ Midwest.
Not sure I understand why Donakd himself does not oppose.

This is so awesome. Good investigative work.

I couldn't help but notice in the Lewandowski/Fields videos how weird Donald's coiffe is. He's close cut on the side but then he has this long waterfall main in the back, with all kinds of layering I'm sure he can move around. This must be expensive scaffolding work available to  a rich few in Manhattan.

Most states close the ability to get your name on the ballot by a month after the convention... 4 weeks is tight as each state has different rules and some states will have closed the opportunity to get on the ballot.

I do agree with part 2.. and this point they deserve it for allowing it to get this far.

@lod01 at some point I'd like to hear what you're for. I know what you're against, what are you for?

I'll say this, Jefferson would probably be happy, while the Hamiltons would have said "look at France 1789, you're playing with fire."

My problem with Donald is that he's no Jefferson, IMO he's Bloomberg on crack, maybe Berlusconi or LuLa (Brazil). I'll hang up & listen.

You mean issue wise?

Republicans cannot expurgate the poison. They NEED the poison to survive as a major party. Like it or not, you need the Trumpites on your side. Just like the moderate Democrats need the Bernie Bro types.

1. So what, they will lose anyway, at least it will be an honorable loss and they can expurgate the poison.

I like how these politicians increase spending now but with a gradual reduction over a ten year period, that never happens(the reduction that is).  We have idiots & liars for leaders & a debt that is horrific.

the end.

how come you think he is better then kasich bromigo take that to the bank

Anything. Ideally or issue wise. What're you shooting for here? Do both parties get imploded, or just one? And then what?
I take the best from both sides and both sides, allowed to implement their best ideas would make this country what it was intended to be by our founding fathers. Of course some of my ideas would have been used by them if they saw the US today. When I took the 'isidewith' test, it was Trump, Hillary and Sanders at the top.

I'll give you a few. I'll start with:

Crime/Prisons/Death Penalty - Minimum security prisons, keep as is. Once you go past that, you go midevil. You get nothing. The thought of it will either scare these criminals out of committing crime or it will put them where they belong....and not for long. Murder another inmate. Meh, who cares. You make it so horrific that people will think twice about committing horrible crimes and if they don't... well, like I said they won't be around long. The gov't has a tribunal for all death penalty cases. No more appeal after appeal. Obvious murderers die quickly. Those that are questionable go back into general population. It's easy to figure who is 100% guilty....Scott Peterson.

US Employment - The BS of companies saying that they can't find talent in this country and need to hire H1B's is BS and they gov't does nothing about it. http://insights.dice.com/2014/02/04/employers-say-youre-getting-hired/ The biggest issue is that there are just not enough people with the “right” skills, says Rob Reeves, CEO - lying sack of ####
We are doing pretty good right now even with these CEOs wanting to screw their workers for a bigger bonus.

Illegal workers -  First off they are illegally here. That means they are breaking the laws of the US. Since they are here, logically that should mean that if I break the law I should not be punished as well. We ship them all out. It will take time but as they come in, they immediately go back out. Then they come in legally with a department that isn't ####ed up like the current one. You process the ones that already were here first. It's doable.

US Debt - Impossible to fix. Doesn't matter anyway.  We go belly up, the world goes belly up. Never going to happen. We have our hands in every country around the globe. That costs $. We can't pull out either. They depend on us. Hello $1Trillion Coin. Someone here turned me towards MMT. A good read.

Social Security - should be taxed on all earnings. Where did this BS come where it stops at a little over $100k. These ####### senators and house reps. get off not paying their share AND they want to cut YOUR SS benefits.

Growing supply of losers in the US - This needs fixed. No more baby factories paid for by us. It's not draconian either to stop these low IQ losers from pumping out more losers in order to get more money from the rest of us. It's logical. No more free rides either. You want welfare, you are going to pick up trash alongside the road, paint a building. You are going to do something or we squeeze you until you shrivel up. Anyone caught committing fraud (faking injury, etc) here NEVER gets anything ever again from the Govt'. Once again, the punishment needs to fit the crime. Fat people. Man, we are ####### fat and lazy. That has to be fixed. I saw 2 absolute beasts stuffing as much McD in their fat faces on Monday that I wanted to throw up. I guarantee that we are footing the bills for that food AND their upcoming medical bills.

That's a taste of the way it should be.

I want both parties to implode. I hate every one of them on both sides because they are useless leeches sucking the life out of the citizens of the country. The fact that they don't even work together now should make them traitors.

I would like the other parties to make inroads into congress. The libertarians, for instance. What is ideal is a common sense party but we would never win anything because there are too many stupid people in this country and the govt allows them to breed uncontrolled. There IS a method to their madness and it's obvious. Control the masses. The elite of this country doesn't want common sense ruling.

The 8 state minimum win rule was a temporary rule in place for 2012. It was never intended to be a permanent rule for future conventions. The convention will start with rule changes that will apply for 2016. I believe the new rules will be voted by the delegates.

Personally I think there are several conflicting pipe dreams at play here. One is that after the first ballot the delegates are free to pick whoever they want. The delegates are going to hear a rousing speech on behalf of (Cruz, Kasich, Rubio, fill in the blank) and start a slow clap until speechee is carried to the nomination. Saying Kasich could win the nomination on a 2nd round or later ballot is like saying Romney could win. Will. Not. Happen.

good post.

Probably posted already, and likely not a shock, but Carson says he didn't want to endorse Trump but he was promised a position if he did. Which would be illegal.

Watching Carson and Christie Kneel before Zod has been gut wrenching. You don't have to like or agree with someone to have your stomach turned by seeing them genuflect and serve their humiliator.

Really? I thought it was freaking awesome. Highlight of their campaigns. Looking forward to seeing Rubio do the same.

Rubio will eventually endorse Cruz
Even if that does happen  - what impact do you think that has? I don't think it influences any voters. And most of his delegates are unbound and won't need to vote for whoever Rubio endorses.

If Trump has the majority of delegates, he wins.

If he has a plurality, then the Republican party is going to disenfranchise voters regardless.  It'll mean less than 40% of the primary voters backed him and a significant percentage that didn't completely reject him.  Frankly, there's no way the Republican party doesn't take a massive hit this election cycle.  The Tea Party, the establishment and the Trump backers cannot for a long term partnership - they're too different and its fracturing the party at the seams.

I read the other day that Republican turnout was only 17% so far this year. And Trump is winning with just 35% of that vote. That's kinda scary.

If he has a plurality, then the Republican party is going to disenfranchise voters regardless. It'll mean less than 40% of the primary voters backed him and a significant percentage that didn't completely reject him.

So Trump warns of possible "riots" if he is denied the nomination if he has the most delegates..

Wonder what he thinks would happen if this took place

If they choose, state legislators can appoint presidential electors themselves this November, rather than leaving the matter of apportioning electoral college votes by popular vote. Then, via their chosen electors, legislatures could elect any presidential candidate they prefer.

We take it for granted that the individual votes we cast will be the ones that select the slate of presidential electors in our state. But the Constitution makes no such guarantee.

So up tomorrow is AZ (58 delegates, WTA) and UT (40 delegates).

Current breakdown of delegates:

Republican Delegates

1,237 to win nomination

Donald J. Trump

678

Ted Cruz

422

Marco Rubio

164

John Kasich

143

Couldn't find this thread.

1) Does it bother any Cruz supporters that he wants to appoint Frank Gaffney to his National Security Team?

2) I forget who it was that called Cruz a civil libertarian in this thread, but what does he or she think of Cruz's "secure and patrol" Muslin neighborhoods plan?

Read either the Brussels thread or how to stop terrorism thread...an alarming number of people don't seem to care about civil liberties.

I think Kasich is going to snap like a twig before this is all over. He pretends to laugh and wish everyone a happy Easter buy you can tell he's frustrated as hell.

tl;dr version fast forward to 9:10 for extra jaw clenching and facial tics

Amazed Kasich hasn't lost it already.  On one hand, it's got to be frustrating losing to racists and religious fanatics. On the other hand, those are two of the reasons his party has remained relevant, chasing those voters for decades.  So I won't shed a tear.

As this race (both parties) and world gets crazier and crazier, everyday I think more and more about Rand Paul and how a) I wish I supported him more and b) he did better so he could've stuck around longer.
