I'm leaving Thursday to go somewhere, will find out over the weekend I guess after some training.
So not to bog down the thread with my problems, because I don't have any like the folks down there...but I'll just tell you how the govt works.
Boss' Boss: Did Dr D get his employee evals done (cc me, they are due 15 Oct or so fwiw)?
My Boss: Dr D?
Me: Got one done, will work on two of remaining four before I leave
Boss' Boss: Well we think you should take your computer with you to finish these while you're deployed
Me: First off I'm not working for this agency for the next 45-60 days, secondly I might be going to a place without power, with looting, and I'll be working up to 16 hours a day. Does this seem like a reasonbable request? Plus I'm getting inoculations and personal stuff done today and tomorrow.
Boss' Boss (This is a very senior govt official): Yeah, we're gonna need those done on time though. Don't let those left behind down.
Me: This is the most obnoxious request I've ever gotten in 25 years of military/govt work. There are HR contingency plans that deal with deployment situations, please have your assistant contact HR who will explain what needs to be done. Basically it will just be shelved until I return or the evals will elevate to my supervisor. glllllllllllll (I actually put gllllllllllll).
My boss only to me: OMG, lololol
Boss' Boss: I'll look into it, have a safe trip.
