*** Official 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season Thread *** (2 Viewers)

Son has made it to Ocala already. There's a slight slowdown between Ocala and Gainesville but traffic looks okay overall.

I can't say that I've watched a lot of signing in my day but during these news conferences each of these people make the weirdest facial expressions - seems like a SNL skit.

How did the Florida Keys make out during Hurricane Wilma in 2005? I've seen pictures of flooded-out cars in Key West during Wilma. But I don't know if most residences are built up high, or about other mitigating factors.
Self bump -- was at bottom of page and probably got missed. Was wondering if anyone knew.

I literally just said that exact thing to my 16yr old - not the SNL part, but the facial expressions.

We are greatfull that west palm beach is out of the cone.

that said it's annoying to go through all the preparation of the past week and have everything be closed today for what, God willing, is going to be little to nothing.

T&P to the Naples and Tampa folks.

We're probably gonna need a separate thread started at some point with advice on the entire insurance/repair/replace/etc etc process when people go back to their damaged homes.

I understand the need to be prepared, but I will say that this has the feel of a storm that will end up being greatly over-exaggerated. I hope I'm right.

Cuba took a chunk out of this thing.  A lot depends on if it gets back to higher strength

My wife is a sign language interpreter and you all have pissed her off.  Thanks a lot #####!

And she wanted me to educate everyone that facial expressions are a huge part of ASL.  And she might have referred to this board as a bunch of know-nothing jackasses as well.

Well I've got a simple hand sign for her

I kid.

What are the chances the storm pushes out further west?
If you mean further west into the Gulf, there is a cold front pushing down through south central US pretty much providing a protective blanket over that part of the Gulf coast. These big storms run from cold dry air. They like it moist and warm.

I also hope it's US affect is less than the expectation. But it's already essentially wiped entire islands clean... so imo it's not possible to over exaggerate this thing- it's already historic.

My sister has a house on Cudjoe Key.  It sits on stilts about 12 feet above sea level.  It's not newer construction (80's maybe?) but they have hurricane shutters etc.  I wonder if it will be standing after today?

I ####### love the Florida Keys.
Right down the road from my FIL....I don't expect a lot of it to be around after this is over.  The Keys are definitely my happy place....gonna be a TON of cleaning up that has to happen and many are going to be facing a decision of rebuild or bail.

The guy in South Carolina that is with the governor became a bit of a celebrity during Matthew last year.  Earlier this week when the news first announced the governor would be having a press conference, my wife and I both wondered if they would same interpreter that Haley had, and they did.

Calm her down and get her aroused by showing her one of my selfies.

Son made it home a few minutes ago, We're getting showers from a Noreaster. Not sure if that system will do anything with steering once Irma comes on shore and well inland.

Wife went to Publix. They're open but pretty picked through. Closing at 6 tonight instead of 8 as originally planned. I think our house is now out of the official cone but of course still going to see some effects.

We are in a non evac zone on the highest land in the county with a new roof put on two weeks ago. Still considering leaving but I think it's best to stay. Terrified of getting out there and not finding any gas or hitting traffic.
Drive to Orlando and book a room at Disneyworld.

Key thing to watch next 4 hours is whether she burps out all the updraft from Cuba. If that happens expect further mandatory evac.

Tell her to be excellent to others.

Just take her for a romantic dinner at that restaurant where you met and all will be right as rain again

It's dangerous for her to be on here. Don't break the circle of trust. And don't tell anyone you wear pink panties.
