Soooooo....is there some type of charge like false reporting or something for the girlfriend lying to the police about Foster initially and having them waste time investigating and pressing charges, etc.....you shouldn’t be able to make something up and then just say nevermind I was lying....
I think we all know Foster probably did everything that was first reported and now the dollar signs are being tossed her way to change her story....but there should still be some type of penalty for lying to the police....
Sounds hella positive and would be terrible to know this man almost lost his career if true. Would have to imagine the brain trust was aware and that's why they pended decision making. Also, with the laundry list of 8-10 punches, ruptured eardrum, ribs, etc., remind me to never run into that chick in a dark alley.
On the other hand, color me skeptic. Their first responses were very vague and non supportive. Would think they would have jumped out ahead of it if details like this had been known?
Parallel's between this and the La'El Collins thing (pre draft) aren't dissimilar.
I would trade down now with this info. Holes or large improvement areas are at WR1 (?), TE, another RB, CB, EDGE. Nobody at those positions will be available and worth the pick unless it's a guy like Davenport or Landry.

I think they would prefer to move down if they can unless maybe Chubb falls to them which is doubtful. As it stands now my guess at 9 is Fitzpatrick or Edmunds if either is available.
At this point I would be happy with just about any of the top defensive prospects. Been leaning recently towards Landry as the one piece the defense really needs is a pure pass rusher and I like him the best. I could get behind either LB or one of the top DB's as well. I am not feeling the idea of taking Mike McGlinchey though which is something that has surfaced recently as a possibility. I think they can look for Joe's replacement next year.
Yup. Hard to believe the prosecution didn’t see this coming, and still felt they had sufficient evidence anyway. Also, even if he is innocent, the organization doesn’t come off any better. They dumped Brock immediately under a similar scenario, and ultimately the charges were dropped against him. They’ve just demonstrated that the amount of patience with the legal process they have is directly correlated with the player’s talent.Stinkin Ref said:

Shocking. No other team in the NFL prioritizes talent. Fire the entire front office right now. Better yet, hang them high.....................
About the only pick I wouldn't be thrilled with lol. Don't really like any of the tackles enough to take top 10. Would rather they get an impact player on defense and figure out tackle next year or in the later rounds.
Welp... Is he going to start at Guard for now? I don't get it. Maybe the are trading Brown?

It better or this pick makes little sense IMO. I don't see him playing guard. Spending the #9 pick on a back-up tackle seems like terrible value.

why? Looks they coulda easily traded out of that pick.... They must really like the guy.He already has 2 good tackles. Can't imagine Brown would have much trade value vs. the upside.

My guess is they don't plan on drafting in the top 10 any time soon in the forseeable future and top left tackle prospects aren't typically available later in the draft so they took their shot. Hope it works out.efactor said:Seems so but he was moving up the boards. Oh well, he’s ours now.

Good call.
Not the most exciting pick but makes sense now that I have had some time to digest it. Like Chinawildman said, clearly the best OT available and since they don’t plan on picking this early in future drafts, not a bad idea to grab one now.
Shanahan wants to run wide (he did in Atlanta and tried last year) and to do this, the RT has to be quick enough to get outside the man lined up over him to push him inside. Brown is a great pass blocker but wasn’t quick enough to seal the edge. McGlinchey will be an upgrade in the run game.
Will be interesting to see if they try to move Brown today or if the plan is to let this season play out and switch Brown to the left side next year if he is healthy and they think he is worth an extension. Not sure how long Staley wants to play. He seems like a guy with the personality to do things in the broadcasting area and may decide he wants out while still healthy and mentally intact. Would be nice to be set up at OT if that happens.

Brown was a 7th rounder, so Im not gonna complain here...after the Jimmy G steal, I dont mind doing this deal with New England and moving up 50 spots.

True. Just a shame he didn't work out. Was top rated pass blocking tackle last year. If he wasn't so lazy and bought in we probably don't pick Mcglinchey and give our defense much needed help with possibly some extra picks to go with it. Really just pissed at Brown. Oh well, this gives us more ammo to move up in 2nd now if we want.

Not sure if I'd say Jimmy G was a steal by Lynch as much as it was BB doing a favor for Jimmy G and giving a good friend in SHanahan who's father is good friends with BB a favor. I think that deal was putting Jimmy G in a favorable situation considering what I believe BB have some good feelings about Jimmy. I think the whole situation in NE is incredible real. BB looked like he wanted to give Jimmy to a team he knew he'd have a favorable outcome and great situation so he was gonna put him there no matter if the offer wasn't as good as others. It's a steal in terms Jimmy G should've gone for far more then what he did though. Been a big fan since college of the guy. hoped the Eagles had taken him when he came out.

Why 49ers targeted Mike McGlinchey with first-round pick
SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers signed quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a $137.5 million contract in February.
On the first night of the NFL Draft, the organization took out an insurance policy.
The 49ers used the No. 9 overall pick Thursday night to add Notre Dame right tackle Mike McGlinchey. The club selected him over pass-rusher Marcus Davenport, linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick. The 49ers opted to strengthen Garoppolo's supporting cast on offense.
“This was a guy, and last week, we decided that if he's there at nine, he's the guy we're taking,” 49ers general manager John Lynch said of McGlinchey.
The addition of McGlinchey indicates the 49ers have no intention of retaining right tackle Trent Brown, who has one season remaining on his contract. Pro Football Talk reported Friday morning the 49ers are discussing a possible trade of Brown to the New England Patriots.
Lynch said the addition of McGlinchey has short-term and long-term benefits. He will work at right tackle, along with Garry Gilliam, during the offseason program. McGlinchey could also switch to left tackle when Joe Staley’s career comes to an end. Coach Kyle Shanahan said McGlinchey will have to earn his starting job, though.
It is clear the 49ers believe McGlinchey will leave no doubt that he will be a starter from Week 1.
The 49ers decided early in the draft process that McGlinchey gave them everything they wanted with their top pick. The organization’s only contact with him came during a 15-minute formal interview at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis in February. After that, the 49ers gave him the silent treatment.
“There's some people who command a room and who own a room,” Lynch said. “I think there were probably two guys that stood out from the pack. We have 60 interviews at the combine and he was a guy that came in and just kind of owned the room, and everyone felt it.
“It wasn't just me. Kyle felt that way. Our coaches that were in the room felt that way, our scouts in the room. He's got a special presence to him. He's real. He's authentic, and he's a badass. And we like that.”
McGlinchey (6-foot-8, 315 pounds) impressed the 49ers with a commitment to the game that the 49ers remain unconvinced Brown possesses. Brown is currently rehabbing from a shoulder surgery that will keep him out for the entire offseason program.
“To me what separates Mike from everyone else is the person you're getting,” Shanahan said. “It always starts with the film, always, and he has that ability. He has that talent. But, the soldier, how committed he is to football -- his football character. He's an O-Lineman who has started 39 straight games. I'm sure he has some injuries, but we haven't seen it because he doesn't talk about them and he just plays.”
McGlinchey is the first tackle the 49ers have selected in the first round since Anthony Davis (No. 10 overall) in 2010. Staley was a first-round pick (No. 28) in 2007.
“Lots of people are looking for tackles, and they are very hard to find,” Shanahan said. “We felt that we had an opportunity to get the best tackle in the draft, and I think a lot of people in the league felt that way.
“When you're in that situation, a lot of people are desperate for him, and that's why you have to keep it somewhat of a secret because people will jump you and take them because they are limited. So you don't find many sleepers later in the draft when you're talking about that position.”
Shanahan was so determined to not allow word to get out of the 49ers’ interest in McGlinchey that he did not even contact his first cousin, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, to ask any questions. Shanahan was Atlanta's offensive coordinator in 2015 and '16.
“I didn't want to blow our cover,” Shanahan said. “We haven't talked to Mike since the combine, and I definitely would have checked in with Matt if we were worried about something. But we felt very good about the guy and the person. I got a text right from Matt after we drafted him.
“But, trust me, I had to keep it a secret.”
Lynch said one of his learning moments in his first year in his position with the 49ers was the Week 8 game against the Philadelphia Eagles when Brown was out with an injury and Gilliam, his backup, sustained a season-ending knee injury early in the second quarter. Undrafted rookie guard Erik Magnuson was forced into action at right tackle.
“I think a great lesson for me,” Lynch said. “It will scar me for life, really.”

Yeah I meant steal as in what we gave up to get him, I dint mean that we pulled one over on New England. Bill B absolutely did us a favor by giving us Jimmy for a 2nd.

I was OK with the deal until I saw they gave up the early 5th too. Jumping 50 spots at that point in the draft seems like a really low return for someone with his potential who is still on a cheap contract this year. Guess it's the best they could do.

I dunno...the difference between the 3rd and 5th round is pretty huge IMO, and we now have three 3rd round picks (70, 74, and 95 overall). I wont be surprised if we trade up today,

Late 3rd vs early 5th, but hopefully, it allows them to move up. Brown could be a really good LT if he was committed to getting in shape.

Seems like a good deal. Would still like to see them sign Reid. Need the depth..................
If he doesn't get a shot to start somewhere I could see that being a possibility. They seemed to be fairly high on Chanceller James last year as well so they may decide to go that route and use Ward as a backup CB / FS. Glad we have 4 picks to use today. Still some good players available. Today should be interesting.

Wishlist for today.... Isaiah Oliver, Nick Chubb, Equanimeous St. Brown, Josh Sweat, and hell why not... Shaquem Griffin because he'd be a really good will LB and can pass rush.
Makes no sense. Can't imagine he was getting drafted before the original pick. They fixate and overpay for almost every player they get. We could really use another CB. Looks like we gave up one of our high 3rd round picks. Pettis is a skinny slot receiver. Thought Taylor played well. I don't get this draft at all.

While not thrilled with the pick, people need to stop calling him a slot receiver. He can play outside. He's not a replacement for Taylor, but for Garcon in 2019.

Do they think our defense is actually ready to compete? If Sherman is not healthy we have to rely on Ward at CB? Foster won't last. Our LB group without him is sub par and we have no pass rushers. But let's add another slot receiver they could have probably gotten with the 3rd round pick they traded.

Why? Garcon isn't a big WR by any means and Shanahan likes WRs who have separation skills, which from what I read is a strong point for Pettis.
Josh Jackson or Connor Williams were my choices but WTF do I know?
Garcon is 6'0 210. I don't know, maybe he can handle it. Draftniks seem to like the fit with Shanahan. Trading #70 overall to go up and get him seems steep but what do I know. Hopefully we hear rumors that other teams ahead of them were targeting him. IMO we need to beef up our defense. I don't like the CB, LB, or pass rush situation. Too many question marks in that group.

Pettis reminds me a lot of Desean Jackson, although Pettis is 3 inches taller and slightly heavier.
Still don't like the pick, but hate the "slot receiver" stigma. He only ran 15 percent of his routes last year out of the slot and no way Shanahan moves up to take Pettis if he planned on playing him in the slot.
Still have a couple 3rds. Fully expect CB and edge there. I think they feel that between Tomlinson (played better at end of season), Garnett and Cooper, that 2 of them will do OK in the system. Expect a later round pick at guard.
Same with LB. Assuming Foster is off the hook (4 game suspension maybe), I think they are OK going into the season with what they have. Expect a later pick on an LB.

Im hearing Devin Hester 2.0. In a game of field position, maybe they believe this will give us an advantage in that dept.
Foster isnt going anywhere, and I think the recent developments definitely determined how this draft would go. IMO if they thought Foster would miss time or be found guilty they would have went LB for sure.
So far this offseason theyve beefed up the OL, got a shiny new RB, added a return difference maker, signed Sherman and gave a few key guys extensions. I dont know squat about college so I don't know anything about value other than what I read...but Im gonna trust the process. For now.

Fair enough. Slot WR is probably a limiting way to describe him. I'm sure Shanahan has a plan for him. Really hoping for CB with the next pick. I also wonder if they are thinking Arden Key if he falls to them at that second 3rd round pick. They supposedly gave him a long look.
