So much for being happy with the LBs.  lol

Like the pick.
I think they were gonna go LB at some point, they just weren't gonna go early.

I saw someone on another site call Lynch "Baalke 2.0"...lmao...ya gotta love armchair GMs.

Yeah, it gets pretty foolish.  Funny as hell when they bring up draft grades by the media as a means to judge a pick.

The draft is a crapshoot in a lot of aspects, but I think Shanahan may be a better judge of who fits his scheme than say Mike Maylock.

Tarvarius Moore

Long and fast.  Played safety at Southern Mississippi but looks like he has potential to play CB.  Has a good tutor in Sherman

Thought they would roll the dice on Josh Sweat here.  I kept reading he was going to go late 1st or early 2nd, but guess the big combine didn't move him up.

Speaking of Baalke...this was on Twitter, I didn't confirm these numbers, but they sound about right to me.

Baalke, as #49ers GM from 2011-16, drafted 61 total players. Out of those players:

- Only 2 made the Pro Bowl

- Only 1 named All-Pro (Aldon Smith)

- Only 8 are still on the 49ers' roster

- 27 are free agents / out of the league

Meeks and Okoronoko (spelling) still on the board.  Guess they were both highly overrated going into the draft to fall to the 5th round.

Guess Hurst's heart condition is pretty serious (heart conditions always are, but some more than others).

I actually defended the guy for a few years, but after picking Armstead instead of Peters, I saw the light.  That's some serious sucky drafting..............

DJ Reed, slot CB

I am officially in WTF are they doing mode with the last two picks.  Going to have to fall back on the "they know a lot more than I do" spin to make myself feel better about these two picks.

This was about where he was projected to go but seems that between Williams and Ward, they have the slot CB position covered.

Reed is 5'9", 188 lbs...whos he gonna cover? Lol

OK, I'm off the cliff about Reed.  Actually looks like a really good pick in the 5th.

The Street pick, not so much...............

Some serious draft crushes who have fallen big time:

Okoronkwo:  Some had him in late 1st, early 2nd range

Holton Hill:  Expected to go in 4th range

St. Brown:  Kept seeing him taken in the 3rd

Tim Settle

Bradley Bozeman

Marcel Ateman

Auden Tate

Quentin Meeks

Hope one of them falls to the Niners 6th rounder

Reed can return kicks, too...averaged over 30yds/return. We're gonna be deadly on kick returns this year.

Marcell Harris, Safety, Florida.

Coming off an Achilles injury. Was projected to go undrafted. 9 starts in his college career and did not play in 2017.

I just don't know what to think anymore.

Lynch was just on Sirius NFL channel. Said Harris is a “thumper” who reminds him of himself. So there’s that. Guess he should know his safeties but I hope to hell they resign Reid.  Need the depth

I can't imagine they sign Reid at this point.  How many safeties do we need?  The only outside CB they drafted to compete with Ward (who was a better slot CB) if Sherman doesn't recover is a safety project.  I don't like this draft from top to bottom, but what the hell do I know.  I guess at this point it's just "trust the process."  This draft has seems like a bad Baalke flashback lol.

You can tell they have a specific plan for offense but defense seems like it's still a giant experiment and I'm not that confident in Saleh yet to figure it out.  It wasn't exactly good last year and after 5 straight defensive picks I can't see a clear cut starter at any of them.  The ACL pick is just baffling.

Well, they need another safety because they seem adamant that Ward is a CB this year.  Insurance on Sherman and they may view him as an upgrade over Williams as well.  I don't think they want him shifting between positions and probably don't think his body can take the hits at the safety position.  Also, sounds like Moore was drafted to play corner with safety being the fall back if he can't make the conversion.  That leaves Tartt, Colbert and the rookie (already forgot his name) at safety. Reid would make a good one year signing and they have the money.

As far as the ACL guy, Lynch was kind of funny talking about him.  Laughed about how the franchise has a history of these kind of picks.  Kerwin mentioned Lattimore and Thomas and Lynch replied "there were a bunch of them".  Also said that they had him projected as a late 2nd, early 3rd and really like his game and couldn't let past decisions to influence them.  Personally, I hate the pick, but just relaying his spin.

I am fine with most of the draft.  Thought the price of moving up to take Pettis was high and don't like the ACL pick but overall, I like it.  Would have liked an edge of course.  Wouldn't shock me if they resign Dumerville at some point soon.

Report: 49ers to sign sought-after Florida State undrafted rookie

https://ninerswire.usatoday.com/2018/04/28/report-49ers-to-sign-sought-after-florida-state-undrafted-rookie-utm_sourcenotifutm_campaignninerswire/

The 49ers are signing undrafted rookie cornerback Tarvarus McFadden of Florida State, according to a report from NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.

San Francisco has a need for depth at cornerback behind presumptive starters Richard Sherman and Ahkello Witherspoon. At 6-foot-2, 204 pounds with 32 1/2-inch arms, McFadden fits the physical profile the 49ers covet for their physical scheme.

McFadden was expected to get drafted but wound up running a slow 4.67 in the 40-yard dash at the combine. He improved that number to 4.58 at his pro day, but it apparently wasn’t enough to sway teams’ opinions. He was one of San Francisco’s official pre-draft visits.

McFadden looked like one of college football’s premier cover men in 2016 when he had eight interceptions and broke up 22 passes. He was five-star recruit out of high school.

But he failed to back up that production in his final season, when he didn’t register a single pick and had just 10 pass break ups.

San Francisco used a third-round pick on Southern Mississippi defensive back Tarvarius Moore, a safety they plan on converting to cornerback. The team also used a fifth-round pick on Kansas State slot cornerback D.J. Reed. The other corners include Greg Mabin, Tyvis Powell, Trovon Reed and Channing Stribling.

Jimmie Ward, the 2014 first-round pick, is moving to cornerback from free safety during the offseason program while Sherman recovers from two Achilles surgeries.

Nice. I was actually more surprised that McFadden went undrafted than Meeks. JC Jackson is another CB I would like to see them bring in.

Just read his intro interview with Jennifer Chan. Kid definitely doesn’t lack confidence.

I like his attitude. Hard hitter who can play special teams. I can see why Lynch likes him.

I thought this was a pretty bad  draft by the 49ers.  As disappointing as I can remember.  That being said, I've also come to realize pre-draft hype is 90% pointless because most of the guys just become 'meh'

Most drafts are made within the first few rounds. Mcglinchey was a sound move, not sexy, but smart. Shanahan knows offense. He must have big plans for Pettis. The linebacker is sure to be a solid contributor, at least. The safety/could be corner is definitely intriguing. If a couple of those guys hit, it's a good draft.

I'm not thrilled with all of the injured picks either but after the fourth rd it's all a crapshoot anyways.

This echoes my thoughts.  I like Taylor a lot, but liked Pettis a lot also.  Sure, there were guys I would have preferred (even at the same positions) over who we took but at the end of the day, willing to let it play out.

Real problem was that Seattle and Arizona seemed to have excellent drafts, and the Rams are certainly in a window.

Disappointed that we didn't take a single pure pass rusher or a big bodied RB.

Clearly looks like Shanny's fine playing smallball NE-style, but even they had a blount or bolden. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think we have a single RB that's 205lb+. And what's up with adding another "tweener" lineman? Do we not have enough of these guys?

Otherwise I like the Pettis, Warner, Moore, Reed, James picks... all those guys look like they can play.

I keep hearing that Warner is a sub package guy to start off, but I don't see that.  I think he will start immediately regardless of Fosters availability.  He was my favorite pick, especially with Gurley and Johnson in the division.  Need someone to run them down on the screens.

Pettis may not be an official starter this year, but he will get a lot of action. McGlinchey plugs in at RT.  Rest of the group is depth and ST this year.  Will be watching closely if Moore can make the conversion to CB.

Happy with 2 1/2 new starters.  Would have liked a pass rusher of course.

Well, so much for them ( or anyone else at this point) signing Eric Reid.

Filing a collusion case he won’t win pretty much sealed his fate.  Unfortunate

Here's what anonymous NFL sources said about Niners picks in ESPN article:

"I love McGlinchey," an insider said. "He is just very solid, a pro's pro. You talk to him, and you think he is a 10-year vet. He is polished and will be a great pick for them."

Another insider was particularly intrigued by the 49ers' selection of Middle Tennessee state receiver Richie James in the seventh round. James is coming off an injury that surely hurt his draft stock, but this insider thought he could be a sleeper under Kyle Shanahan's guidance.

"I thought he was just as good as Anthony Miller, who Chicago took in the third, but with the injury, teams didn't look at him as much," this insider said.

https://ninerswire.usatoday.com/2018/05/05/49ers-sign-three-draftees-to-rookie-contracts/?utm_source=49erswebzone&utm_medium=tw&utm_campaign=affref

The 49ers announced Saturday three of their nine rookie draftees completed the formality of signing their four-year rookie contracts: Defensive back Tarvarius Moore, defensive lineman Jullian Taylor and receiver Richie James.

Moore was a third-round pick from Southern Mississippi. He played safety in college and is expected to switch to cornerback in the NFL. He was a late riser in the draft process largely because of his speed. He ran a 4.32 at his pro day to draw attention from scouts and shoot up draft boards.

Taylor and James were both tapped in Round 7. Taylor is an interior defensive lineman San Francisco hopes can develop for deptch behind DeForest Buckner, Solomon Thomas and Arik Armstead.

James is a slot receiver known for his toughness and route running. He’ll compete among a crowded receiver group to make the 53-man roster come training camp.

https://www.ninersnation.com/2018/5/6/17305362/49ers-draft-picks-2018-richie-james-sleeper

Richie James could be the 49ers best value pick.

The 49ers have some question marks about their day three picks, but one could be a big-time sleeper in the bunch.

The San Francisco 49ers spent several day three draft picks on players with injury concerns. Players drop into day three for a variety of reasons, including injuries, skill, and other circumstances. Teams can find immediate starters on the final day of the draft, but they’ll often roll the dice on players with upside.

One player the 49ers drafted who offers some sleeper intrigue is Middle Tennessee State wide receiver Richie James. The 49ers used one of their two seventh round picks on the speedy, undersized receiver, and he very well could prove to be a great sleeper pick.

The 49ers wrap up their rookie minicamp on Sunday, and James has been an early standout, per Chris Biderman. He is competing for an opportunity in the slot, where his small stature won’t necessarily be a big issue for him.

Following the draft, Mike Sando spoke with NFL personnel people to get their thoughts on each team’s draft class. They spoke about some of the 49ers early picks, but one person was intrigued by what James could bring to the 49ers.

“I thought he was just as good as Anthony Miller, who Chicago took in the third, but with the injury, teams didn’t look at him as much,” this insider said.

A strong performance in rookie minicamp does not guarantee anything when final roster cuts arrive, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. The team will have to figure out their depth chart for OTAs and minicamp, and then again for training camp. Every strong performance can help boost a player up the practice depth chart. The more reps a player can get higher up the depth chart, the more he can show the coaches.

The 49ers will hopefully get good value from some of their middle round picks. But could we see a second straight season with an impact seventh round pick? Last year, Adrian Colbert worked his way up the depth chart and eventually became the starting free safety. It seems unlikely James will entirely supplant Trent Taylor as the slot receiver, but James will get a chance in a competition that will be fierce with Kendrick Bourne, Aldrick Robinson, and plenty others.

https://www.ninersnation.com/2018/5/8/17331554/reuben-foster-domestic-violence-case-plea-not-guilty-next-date

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster was back in court Tuesday, where he formally entered not guilty pleas to the three felony charges. A preliminary hearing has been set for May 17th, with a potential trial developing from there. There is also an evidentiary hearing this Friday that could end up cancelled if certain evidence is provided before then.

Foster did not choose to “waive time,” according to Robert Salonga. If a defendant “waives time,” it can result in a lengthier process. By not waiving time, Foster’s attorney is putting pressure on the prosecution to potentially present their case before they are completely comfortable with it — particularly in light of the accuser recanting her statement.

Foster was arrested in February on suspicion of domestic violence. He was formally charged last month with felony domestic violence, forcefully attempting to prevent a victim from reporting a crime, and felony possession of an assault weapon. A week after the charges were filed, the accuser recanted the statement she gave police. She claimed to have a video showing the injuries happening in a fight with another woman prior to her interaction with Foster.

The DA’s office has had the video in question for at least a couple weeks at this point. The prosecutor and Foster’s attorney met prior to Tuesday’s hearing, but there is no indication of working toward any sort of plea deal or dropping of charges. Matt Barrows got a copy of the police report from the night in question, and it mentions two potential witnesses: a house guest and the motorist who picked up the alleged victim following the incident. The DA has not offered comment on any of that, and did not speak to the media following Tuesday’s hearing.

Foster remains away from the 49ers while the legal process plays out. John Lynch has said Foster would not be part of the organization if the charges bear out during the legal process. Given the decision to not waive time, we could see resolution to this relatively quickly.

Foster going to court today
Here's a good rundown from the various beat writers covering this today: https://twitter.com/ninersnation/lists/niners-media

some of the interesting nuggets:

Also, VERY key: The passerby whom Ennis flagged down to call 9-1-1 repeated many times under oath that Ennis was “very calm” when she flagged him down. Didn’t remember injuries.
Josh Bentley, Reuben Foster’s attorney, is cross-examining Ennis now and she just broke into tears after he asked “is it true that you wanted to ruin his career? Ennis, sobbing: “I’m sorry, I’d really like to apologize to everybody.”
Ennis also admits to lying to her own mother and of having no problem of lying to police. Ennis also admits that she stole 2 Rolexes from Foster’s house after he was arrested and still has them — the Rolexes are in a bank safe in Louisiana.
Reuben Foster attorne Reuben Foster's ex-girlfriend admits that in 2011 she falsely accused an ex-boyfriend in Louisiana of domestic violence after he broke up with her. "I went to jail," Elissa Ennis testifies
Lunch recess at the Reuben Foster trial, and more wow: Los Gatos PD detective Jason Wiens, under cross-examination by Bentley, admits to never following up on Ennis’ claim that she fought another woman (Ennis told him about the fight just 2 days after Foster’s arrest).
Wow...

Onto the gun charges: Detective Wiens acknowledges that both guns that police found in Reuben Foster’s house were purchased legally in Alabama.

Oh man. Theyre gonna have to drop the charges.

Reuben Foster’s ex-girlfriend testifies: ‘It was all a money scheme’

http://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/116049-reuben-fosters-ex-girlfriend-testifies-all-money-scheme/

The ex-girlfriend of Reuben Foster admits to lying about the domestic violence and wanted to ruin the San Francisco 49ers linebacker's career. She also admitted to being previously arrested for accusing a former boyfriend of domestic violence.

Elissa Ennis, the ex-girlfriend of San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster, testified on Thursday morning at the Santa Clara County Superior Court. At times during the testimony, she had tears rolling down her face. Ennis' attorney, Stephanie Rickard, stated on the record that she advised her not to testify but to plead the Fifth Amendment instead.

"I was lying about a lot of stuff," Ennis said.

Foster, sitting next to his attorney, Joshua Bentley, watched as her testimony damaged the Santa Clara DA's potential case against him. Ennis stated she wanted to ruin Foster for attempting to end his relationship with her following an incident that eventually led to the linebacker's arrest three months ago.

"I told him, 'I'm going to f--k your s--t up,'" Ennis said.

Shockingly, Ennis admitted that this is not the first time she has been in a similar situation. She testified that in 2011, she went to jail for accusing her then-boyfriend of domestic violence after he broke up with her.

Ennis struggled to recall the details of what she told police following the February 11 incident, which formed the bases of the criminal charges against Foster. "I don't recall," was a consistent answer from her when asked about the accusations she made to responding authorities.

"I wanted to sue Reuben," Ennis said. "It was all a money scheme."

"Did Mr. Foster ever hit you?" Bentley asked her.

"No sir," Ennis responded
. "I'm sorry. I really am. I apologize to everybody."

She denied being paid to recant her initial story. Ennis admitted to taking money, jewelry, and designer clothing from Foster's residence before flying home to Louisiana after the linebacker's arrest. The motorist, Eugenio Pirir, who she flagged down that day to call 911 testified that Ennis was calm and was not panicking when he encountered her. She simply asked to use his cell phone.

Foster admitted to destroying two of Ennis' cell phones. One was on February 11 as she attempted to call 911. The other was an iPhone, which was destroyed the night before because Foster suspected Ennis was using it to secretly record him.

"My boyfriend, he beat me up," said Ennis during one of two 911 calls from February 11 played on Thursday. On one, she seemed frantic while on the other, she sounded calm.

As part of her initial statement, Ennis told police that the argument began the night of February 10 and Foster threw her dog across the room. On Thursday, she said that too was a lie.

"Why would you like about that?" Bentley asked.

"I was pissed and I wanted to end him," she answered.

Ennis went on to state that she didn't believe the situation would escalate to the level that it did. "I wanted to sue him on my own," she admitted.

The prosecutor, Kevin Smith, asked Ennis if she still loves Foster.

"I don't love him," she answered. "I need help for myself."

Ennis went on to state that she plans to check herself into an unspecified clinic to get that help. That was the end of her nearly two hours of testimony. She left the courtroom in tears with her attorney and did not speak to reporters.

Ennis' initial accusations included Foster hitting her several times, which she said were the cause of her bruises and ruptured eardrum. The 49ers linebacker was arrested on February 11 as a result of the incident. He was charged with domestic violence with an allegation that he inflicted great bodily injury, forcefully attempting to prevent a victim from reporting a crime, and possession of an assault weapon.

Foster met with the 49ers, which included general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan, the day after the incident and the team decided not to take action, which caused public scrutiny. Instead, the 49ers decided to let the legal matter progress before determining Foster's fate. However, both Lynch and CEO Jed York made it clear that if it were revealed Foster struck Ennis, he would no longer be part of the organization.

"I do want to be abundantly clear that if these charges are proven true, if Reuben did indeed hit this young lady, he won't be a part of our organization going forward," Lynch said on April 23. "That's the standard we want on our team. That's the standard we're going to operate under."

"His time with the 49ers can potentially be over if he continues to do things outside the team that aren't what we want him to be a part of," York said on March 28.

After her initial statement to responding sheriff's deputies and Los Gatos police, Ennis recanted her story on April 25. She now claims that her injuries were the result of a physical fight with two women and not with Foster. Ennis stated that Foster attempted to end his relationship with her following the incident. She also claimed to have video evidence that would clear Foster's name of the domestic violence charges. That evidence reportedly ended up on Instagram.

"The video is believed to show Ennis, following a road rage-type incident in or near San Francisco, fighting with a woman," reported the Sacramento Bee. "Blows are exchanged in the video and the unidentified woman appears to grab Ennis' left ear, which was the one that was ruptured."

It was the new video evidence that delayed the original plea hearing date from April 30 to May 8.

"She was extremely upset and told him if he broke up with her she would 'trash his career,'" read the statement issued by Ennis' lawyer on her behalf.

Sad thing is, some people (including ones on this board) will never change their minds about the person that Reuben Foster is regardless of any testimony or outcome of the trial. Such is the state of our ego-centric courts of public opinion. When mud gets slung around on the internet, sometimes it never comes off.

Well, hes no choir boy, thats for sure, and he has still done some bonehead things. But, it appears domestic violence isnt one of them.

Now if he would just give up the pot and guns. lol

is it just me or does everybody else not really see through this whole reverse psychology thing....I would bet dollars to doughnuts that he did assault her.....but after "further consideration" and speaking with him and his attorneys,,,she realizes (when they say they will pay her) that Foster is really worth more to her playing and out of jail then if she were to try and sue him after he goes to jail and loses his career....they are making a mockery of the system and sitting back laughing at everybody now....thats why I asked earlier "what kind of trouble does she get in for false repoting, lying to the police,etc"....I even asked an attorney that question and they said she probably won't get in any trouble.....the DA won't want to waste time on it and would just like to see it go away...

so bottom line....she gets in no trouble.....and the only money scheme going on is that now she will get paid by Foster for changing her story.....the "lie" is actually her saying "I was lying"....
GTFO with this garbage.
