***Official 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs thread: Caps and Mystics to raise banners together in October. Congrats DC!!!!!!! (1 Viewer)

First time in years the Caps have had the hot goaltender when it matters.  Seems they always run into a goalie playing their best ever.

Murray seemed a bit off last series.  Vasilevskiy looks like 23 year old not ready for this.

Unrelated, but am I the only one surprised @Wingnut hasn't been told to change his avatar?  Not that I'm complaining, of course.
WTF? Thanks, narc.

Hey anyone else, was there a recent rule change about avatars that show fully clothed chestes?

I've had that avatar for 15 years, and now all of a sudden it's no good? Smh.

Hey man, sorry. I didn't think just mentioning it would sound off the alarms. I didn't report it. I just wondered after all the recent purges and concern over objectifying women why others were removed and not yours.

yeah a bunch of guys have had it changed. It's the new, not new, policy. See JB's no more who's hottest thread.

Interesting

@PaulKuharskyNFL: David Poile on @Midday180: In team evolution. Juuse Saros needs and deserves more starts. #Preds

@falguy No worries, man. I didn't know there was a recent change in what's allowed. We cool.  :hifive:

Sooo, is Tampas coaching to blame for their almost yearly playoff exit? When theyre firing on all cylinders they're as good as anyone, yet they cant seem to keep it (or get it) going in the postseason. What gives?

I dunno. Everybody here loves Cooper. He’s supposedly a great guy and a good coach. But when a coach is saying that his team played two games of the ECF like they were regular-season games that’s a big problem imo.

And it’s not the first time he’s said that.

I know this is crazy but we’re just chatting on the ol’ message board here. As it turns out I don’t actually make these decisions.
other than Bucky actually being Rob Blake, I thought that was probably the case.  what I was referring to was the confusion about it being a 3 game series.

yeah. why did they get destroyed by Boston in the second round? And why didn't they win a Cup yet?

team sucks in the postseason. can't win with Cooper (except they have made it to the final 4 in 3 of the past 4 seasons).

Does anyone here think the Caps will drop 4 of the next 5 games? I just don't see it. Sure it's possible, but highly unlikely, and IMO itll be another offseason here in Tampa with lots of questions and very few answers.

I really thought Tampa had better fans than this.

Why is it such a sin to discuss these things? If the bolts get swept do you think they would have underperformed relative to their talent level?

It’s all moot because there’s no way Vinik fires him, but it does remind me of when dungy got canned.

It shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the NHL playoffs and overreacts to a very small sample size of games.

No it doesn’t. Literally all playoffs are small sample sizes. Coaches still get fired for underperforming them all the time, rightly or not.
For making it to the Conferemce Finals in 3 of the last 4 years? Show me.

Ovechkin hasn’t made it past round 2 in his career before now and Tampa fans treat it like it’s nothing.

I don’t think many locally are saying he should get fired but this year is looking to be a disappointment.  Making the conference finals is cool but getting absolutely boat raced is going to lead to questions.

Oh give it a rest dude. The Caps are playing lights out right now and Tampa doesn't have an answer for it to this point. I'm just calling it like I see it, and I don't really care if you agree with it or not.
Hopefully you guys can have some success in the postseason one of these years.

We should fire every coach who starts a playoff series 0-2. Guy obviously has no clue what he’s doing.

Lightning under Cooper:

2013-14 : bounced in round 1

2014-15: lost in cup final

2015-16: bounced in round 3

2016-17: missed playoffs

2017-18: TBD

I never said they should fire Cooper, I just asked if coaching was to blame for them not being able to get over the hump with all the talent they have. Last year injuries were brutal, but aside from that they just seem to always fall a bit short.

I'm still rooting for them to turn it around, but I'm allowed to be pessimistic with the way they'e been handled this round so far.

I would normally agree with you, but Aaron seems to have different rules of how to cheer for teams that I'm failing to understand.

Any team more successful than the Sabres is worthy of fan praise.
That's not the same as saying "all fans of teams worthy of praise may profess nothing but praise for their team", which seems to be Aaron's very silly position..

Not even close. You can be critical of a team without saying things like this group/coach has had no postseason success when they’ve won at least 2 playoff rounds in 3 of 4 seasons. Some franchises go decades without winning a single round of the playoffs. Some perspective is warranted. This series has been bad for them so far, but the last was the complete opposite. Did Cooper forget how to coach? Team just stopped trying? Those are silly things to say or believe imo. There are valid reasons Washington has had the upper hand. Maybe see how Tampa responds before we bury them.

Bump.

Yeah. I misread it and edited my post.

Still, yearly playoff exit implies he expects to what, win the Cup every year?
No but teams have a window to win one. The Bolts are in theirs now and while the team is young, things change quick. So I feel like there is some sense of wasting an opportunity.

Locally there was a window where the rays were one of the 3-4 best teams in baseball for about 6 years. They never cashed it in and now they’re in the dumpster. Not saying that’s going to happen here at all, but people remember that.

I don’t consider Cooper an elite coach so maybe someone else could do better. But there’s a great chance someone else would do a lot worse.

When Florida let Marchessault unprotected I was shucked, said as much in the off-season thread. Now he’s gotta a new contract scoring goals in the WCF.  Panturds are dumb.
