*Official 2018 Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles* - Tough way to go out. Magic finally gone. (1 Viewer)

Pretty sloppy out there right now. Still preseason so I'm not worried as long as no one gets hurt.
Agreed...  I believe Eagles will have a minor negative recession, offensively but should be able to ramp it up toward season end.  And they are still team to beat in NFC East (and NFC).

I brought him up in after pre-season game one and after his 3rd game I thought Jordan Mailata was taking huge steps forward. I just ran across a tweet form Baldy and he seemed astonished at how fast he’s come along.

Take a listen

I agree sloppy and it was good to hear Doug get on them some. On the flip side that starting line up we a joke last night.

yeah, I think he's gonna have to be on the 53-man roster, even if he is not necessarily ready to play in the regular season.Although this was Kempski's take from 2 days ago:

Offensive line (9): Jason Peters, Stefen Wisniewski, Jason Kelce, Brandon Brooks, Lane Johnson, Halapoulivaati Vaitai, Matt Pryor, Isaac Seumalo, Chance Warmack

In previous 53-man roster projections, we noted that Jordan Mailata was a great candidate for injured reserve, so that he can learn the game off to the side while not occupying a roster spot. Some argued that Mailata won't get better if he can't practice with the team, which would be the case if he were on IR.

While that is certainly a point worth considering, the feeling here is that Mailata wouldn't even be a functional practice player. In training camp practices, while he made improvements along the way, he was going up against guys like Josh Sweat and Danny Ezechukwu, and was often getting roasted. If he had to face off against, say, Michael Bennett or Brandon Graham, those guys would tear him apart.

The primary function of the practice squad (and the guys on the back end of the 53-man roster) is to help make the players on the active 46 better, and I'm not sure Mailata can reasonably do that. Mailata can still get better practicing his techniques off to the side while on IR. He just can't maximize his ability to get better playing against his teammates every day, but that shouldn't be at the expense of giving guys like Graham and Bennett quality reps all season in practice, when the team is the NFC favorite to go to the Super Bowl.

To note, if the team can't get Mailata on IR, there's no way they are cutting him. He will unquestionably make the roster in some form.

Otherwise, one change that I have here is Warmack making the roster. Warmack has not played well, but if Jeff Stoutland wants him (and I think he will), he'll probably win that argument over keeping someone like, say, CB D.J. Killings. My apologies. It's just the read I have at the moment.

smallwood looked decent with the ones. Adams and matt jones should be cut

What is going on with mack hollis? #2 at wr looked like he was getting a lot of run
still recovering from sports hernia surgery.

I think that they want to see what Carter, Davis and Gibson can do.  I don't know if Gibson.  I think that either Carter or Davis has a chance to make the 53, though certainly the PS.

If Mailata is improving as much as Baldy says, he’s a lock to make the 53 and could overtake Big V later on this year if needed.

I don’t know what Seumalo has done to make the team.

His ability to play every position on the line.  Think he took snaps in 3 spots last night?  That alone is valuable.

What's the point if he stinks at all of them?
He's an average back-up. No team has the luxury of above average back-ups wasting away on their bench. So having one average back-up that can play 4 spots, opens up roster spots because you can cut other average back-ups that only play one spot on the line (e.g. Chance Warmack.)

Yup I'm thinking warmacks gone.  I would rather have some young guy with upside on the squad learning.

Don’t disagree but man he would be a liability if asked to start at any OL position for an extended period. I hope his versatility yields positive roster benefits at WR, DL and CB

He’s been below average at every position though. I think they’re just hoping he does something well and he just hasn’t. Wouldn’t be shocked if he’s cut.

Seems unreasonable to take too much away from that last game. Eagles were missing top 3 RBs, top 2 WRs, two starting O-lineman and the starting QB, all while playing a vanilla offensive scheme. We expect more from Foles than that, and he played poorly, but it would be silly to get too uptight over these last couple of outings.

Pretty happy with the way Sudfeld has played though, wondering if we can keep him.

Honestly, I felt like Vaitai and Foles kind of torpedoed the whole thing (plus effing Matt Jones).  They were able to move the ball on the ground and the defense looked great.  Without all those turnovers, the overall vibe would been a lot better.

The browns were up for that game.  They were playing like it was a damn playoff game

This is two week in a row i've heard comments that the opposing team was up for the game. Well we better get used to it in the regular season cause as the champs we are going to get a lot more teams up to play us this year.

Totally agree.  Just stating what I saw

Foles is fine. Vatai will be fine. We've seen them do it last year. It's preseason. As much as they want to act like they're still hungry, the hungriest guys are not on the field (Wentz, Sproles, Peters etc). That and it's preseason after they won the super bowl. Hard to take it too serious after this whole off-season.

Don't get me wrong, they need to knuckle down now with less than 2 weeks till kickoff but I'm not worried about lack of drive in preseason game 3. Pederson is in their ear now. He can sense it. I have no doubt that if Foles is starting week 1, we will win.

If we think Cleveland acted like this was a playoff game, Atlanta is going to act like that game is their Super Bowl.  I think we win, but it is not going to be easy and we need to play one of our best games of the year.  Will need an improvement over what we've seen so far, but hopefully we can get into 'super bowl' mode/mindset pregame for that one and show up.  I wouldn't be surprised if we lost it though, that's gonna be a tough opening match.  Still think we win 10-11 games though and the div though.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but should we consider Dez if Alshon starts season on PUP?  I get the whole attitude thing and not wanting to mess with that, but besides that, he seems like Philly would be the perfect fit for him as he wants to play in this div, and he could walk into the best team in the division and instantly start.  Maybe he'd clean up his act and be a team first, quiet guy if he was given this perfect opportunity?

Didn't he just turn down $5 mil from Cleveland?  Pass.

Baldy and Tommy Lawlor had really high Praises about Mailita. Baldy said he hasn't seen a guy progress in 4 months like him in yrs. Lawlor said he reminds him of a young Jason Peters but still a long way to go. Both wouldn't be surprised if he's apart of the 53 man roster.

I've seen enough receivers drop balls over the years to make me want to climb into my TV set and beat the next guy with the dam football who drops a catchable pass. SO its a hard pass.

not sure Mailata will start for us this year:

can't blame the guy, hard switching to wearing pads

I think it's a lock he's on the practice squad this year.  The hope with him is to see what he can do with a few years of training.  Still quite a longshot to ever play, but you never know.

Yeah, he's definitely a long-term project. I think this, and the Taylor Hart project, show the Eagles are still stung they didn't identify Alejandro Villanueva's potential the way the Steelers did.
I'm definitely more encouraged about this working out than just 3 months ago. Even if he winds up better than Big V (2017 edition), but not an All-Pro, it's a success.

So your opinion differs.  Nice though that it was delivered with grace.
wasn't intended to offend, but it is kind of silly when you have a guy coming off of throwing for 500 yards in the SB, and having 2 down pre-season games, to judge by the preseason. To be honest, if i am an NFL team that needs a QB, this is a perfect time to trade for Foles. i am sure Howie still has high the bar set high, but comparing preseason to the playoff run is silly, in my opinion

The main reason I'm not worried (too much) about Foles is that they are not running the same offense he excelled in in the post-season.  It seems he struggles in the basic drop-back and find the open receiver offense.  Hasn't his success come from the RPO offense?  I'm sure if Foles starts any games the play calling will be tailored to his strengths.
