*Official 2018 Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles* - Tough way to go out. Magic finally gone. (1 Viewer)

So I take it you're assuming that the 85% "middle grounders" that you mentioned planned to go?

i think it came down to this meeting. Wentz did say he wanted to go, and they were on board if the team was going. Made it seem like no matter what they were going to do, they were going to do it as a "team".

torry Smith tweeted about it too, i would think his point here is accurate because these guys have no reason to play politics and lie on a regular basis. So based on what SMith is saying, maybe a bunch agreed not to go. Last i heard (before the meeting) was the whole team would travel there together, and some would go bowling or something while the others went to the White House:

Torrey Smith✔@TorreySmithWR

So many lies smh
Here are some facts
1. Not many people were going to go
2. No one refused to go simply because Trump “insists” folks stand for the anthem
3. The President continues to spread the false narrative that players are anti military

Torrey Smith✔@TorreySmithWR

There are a lot of people on the team that have plenty of different views. The men and women that wanted to go should’ve been able to go. It’s a cowardly act to cancel the celebration because the majority of the people don’t want to see you. To make it about the anthem is foolish

Ya, I highly doubt Trump would cancel the thing if more than 50% of thee team planned to go.  The more that comes out, the more that I believe that it was quite a small number that were going to go.  My guess is maybe 20 of the maybe 70 invited (No clue how many coaches/trainers/etc get invited to this thing) planned to go.

i don't even know how they found out, but i guess they probably called the Eagles and asked. Kind of a #### move cancelling this less than 24 hours before the event, screw a lot of people who maybe were planning to go or involved with this

Ya I'm sure they needed confirmed numbers for security and cameras and planning it all out.  They probably called this morning to confirm, and when they heard it was around 10 guys, he panicked.

The combination of the embarrassment of low attendance and the president telling Jerry Jones what a strong, winning issue the anthem thing is for him, makes this no surprise at all.
He wrapped kneeling into his cancellation tweet even though no Eagles kneel.

Fox News had a piece on this - of course, since there was no footage of Eagles kneeling for the anthem, they subbed in images of them kneeling in prayer before the game while talking about anthem protests.

Wish I was kidding :(   What a weird world, this team is probably the most faith-based, community centered teams I've ever seen - and they're being attacked.

Are you kidding me?!  I don't know how they can get away with that and not get called out.  I like 95% of y'all down there, but that is seriously messed up.

Very upsetting. Ertz went after them already for propaganda. Here's his tweet with the Fox video.

Because nobody cares about the truth as long as it helps their team.   Most of the people that are mock outraged by this because THEY HATE AMERICA    think that it was Kapernick who came up with the idea of kneeling.  Not a military veteran in talking with him after seeing him sit on the bench in the pre-season

Politics aside and only looking at this as an Eagles fan I think it's great Trump uninvited the team. This lets the Eagles off the hook of having players that went to the White House and those that didn't. No divide in the locker room and don't have answer questions on why a player did or didn't go.

I think this team is too strong to have that divide, but I do get your point.  Also think this brings them together and fires them up even more.  Even the ones who were going (especially the ones who were going) must be ticked off at him about this.  I'll happily take on more "us against the world" narrative next year.

Wow what a farce. I know Fox News has been exposed so if people don’t think these things happen now they never will, but that is just ridiculous.

I bet there are players who would have liked to meet the president and didn't want to be known for this.

I never really liked it when players skipped these in the past but this is pretty disrespectful in both directions.  I can understand individuals or the whole team boycotting but that many players?  And uninvited? Seriously?

According to Sarah Sanders, there were discussions over the weekend about revamping the even for a smaller crowd, but that didn't work out.

And Fox has apologized and taken down the video. Good work, Zach.
“During our report about President Trump canceling the Philadelphia Eagles’ trip to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win, we showed unrelated footage of players kneeling in prayer,” Christopher Wallace, the program’s executive producer, said in a statement sent to The Post. “To clarify, no members of the team knelt in protest during the national anthem through the regular or post-season last year. We apologize for the error.”

I don’t know, f that. Doesn’t take a news organization off the hook like an apology now makes this, what would seem purposeful, mistake ok. And if it wasn’t malicious it is a joke of reporting.

“The White House, despite sensing a lack of good faith, nonetheless attempted to work with the Eagles to change the event format that could accommodate a smaller group of players,” the statement read. “Unfortunately, the Eagles offered to send only a tiny handful of representatives, while making clear that the great majority of players would not attend the event, despite planning to be in D.C. today. In other words, the vast majority of the Eagles team decided to abandon their fans.”

What a hot bag of air this statement holds.

They can eat a whole buffet of D.

I've spent my whole life as a Giants fan who hates the Eagles.  Watching them win the Super Bowl was awful...now they might be my favorite team.  :X

Curious when Fox News actually apologizes for their deliberate screw ups, do people just think it is FAKE NEWS to hide the real truth in their minds which was the fake narrative that they enjoy.

it is funny, I am seeing more and more comments like this on some of the more popular sites.

The Giants will always be my favorite team, but I hope if they win it all while Mr. Trump is president they have the cohones to do what The Eagles

did.  Calling NFL players "sons of b!tches" for calling attention to injustice in a peaceful way, berating them for disagreeing with their president?

I'll proudly stand with the Eagles on this one.

funny part was the White House/Trump still holding an event for Eagles fans today if they were coming. His numbers he was calling were over 1000. Looked at pictures of the event, and i was surprised there were more people then i thought. Then .5 second later, i realized there was something very wrong with the pictures:

https://www.crossingbroad.com/2018/06/some-guy-took-a-knee-at-the-presidents-celebration-of-america-event.html

i have been an Eagles fan my entire life, and showing me pictures of all these guys in suits makes me immediately call you out for lying that they are Eagles fans. Then reading some of the article there is some good stuff too, like the guy who asked 6 of the fans who the Eagles QB was for the SB, and none of them got it right

love that someone took a knee....classic....

I hope the Eagles repeat, so that the thinned skinned, tiny handed, egotistical, porn star pay offer, snowflake has to uninvite them again next year.
If he's still in office that is...

TRUMP TODAY:  "The Philadelphia Eagles Football Team was invited to the White House. Unfortunately, only a small number of players decided to come, and we canceled the event. Staying in the Locker Room for the playing of our National Anthem is as disrespectful to our country as kneeling. Sorry!"

None of our players stayed in the locker room during the Anthem either.

I think the era of inviting sports champions to the white house is about over...professional American sports anyway....looks like the NFL and NBA wont be bothering with it....we will see about baseball....although the astros just went....and if the Caps win...that will be interesting...although a lot of those players are foreign...Canada...Russia...Sweden etc.....Im sure they just love trump.....well maybe Ovechkin does.....hahaha

I see it being over, and then the next administration comes in and invites the SB champs in June and the whole team shows up.

I think Trump's comment about staying in the locker room is about the new rule, not the Eagles. He's just using this event to segue to more anthem rhetoric, which he's said is a winning issue for him.

I feel like he's probably pretty damn happy with the new rule.  It's pretty pro-what he wants.

The players continue to bite the hand that feeds them - and I’m not talking about Trump.  It’s just blatant idiocy for people who garner ridiculous levels of pay for entertaining large masses to continue to wantonly push political views that many just don’t want to hear.

And for Pete’s sake, can’t Trump just shut the **** up for once?  Yeah, cancel the event - I agree with that.  But just stop with the sophomoric rhetoric already.  You made your point.  Let it speak for itself.
