Howie is gonna get the axe first I think. He’s great with the cap and trades but is just flat out awful with the drafting. Maybe add another “football guy”? I don’t know man. Either way we HAVE to hit this next draft. Have to have 4 contributors who show talent and that they belong.
Also have to weed out these talkers too. Send Alshon to Cincy or Miami and see how much he talks than.

Well supposedly Joe Douglas was helping the last 2-3 drafts right? He was our Football Guy guru. Howie ultimately is responsible but I thought Joe was supposed to be this personnel expert.

This is where I'm conflicted. Yea, Howie's the GM, and the buck stops there and all. But what are the 'football guys' telling him? I'm sure he's relying on their feedback for this. Did he decide to draft a Jeffrey clone instead of a speedster? Or was the something Doug and Groh told him they wanted? Is our scouting dept bad? Or are they getting overruled? It's the age old "who made the call to draft Marcus Smith" conundrum all over again.

Turned it off before the 62-yard FG because I was 100% sure it was going in and that the game was over.
Probably due to "out of sight, out of mind" but I think Joe Douglas isn't getting enough heat/blame. My rankings:
1. Groh - Yes, no one can get open, but it's the OC's job to scheme ways to get them open (at least somewhat regularly) and game plan to exploit a D's weakness. He does none of that.
2. Douglas - Think about how many times we said/heard a pick or signing had "Joe Douglas' fingerprints all over it." Today, how many of those moves can we look at and say they've set us up for success, this year, or over the next couple of years? A lot less than what you would think a highly-prized GM hire would be expected to have.
3. Schwartz - Continues to try and put square pegs in round holes. Understanding the FO hasn't given him much to work with, he doesn't seem adept at adjusting to the talent/skill he has.
4. Howie - Trying to emulate the Patriots' exploitation of market inefficiencies in trades, comp picks, and mid-tier/vet FA's only works if you're a good talent evaluator. Pats do it consistently; Howie hit on it for 2017 but has had big misses since. Maybe some of it was leaning too much on Joe Douglas, but it ultimately falls back on him.
5. Pederson - Just because he's last on this list doesn't mean he's absolved. At the very least, he should be demanding more from the offensive staff if they're not bringing him decent plays to put on his sheet each week. He's approving (and maybe having a heavy hand in) these putrid game plans.

Agree completely on Douglas. He was praised as this football genius and now he's gone. Where are all his picks and moves?
Schwartz may not have a lot to work with but I feel that's his own doing. Howie stated in the past he asks what his coaches need and goes out to get that. These are all players he asked for.

I ask because if a QB has time to throw and make his progressions, typically they find an open receiver or complete a pass, almost universal in the NFL with some exceptions.
I am reading "Trade Ertz" and Alshon is not enough, what about the RBs? Maybe they need 1 guy to really step in and take 15-20 touches a game. Most QBs benefit from it, Philly has had a RBBC it would seem for quite a while.
Pederson beat the Patriots in the SB less than 2 years ago and now I am hearing media heads question his approach...it wasn't a problem in 2017, what's changed.

There's just so much wrong right now. Last night it felt like the line was bad and not many clean pockets. Receivers get no separation, so every throw is into a tight window, and since they aren't reliable with their hands, and tough catches, or even easy ones, have a chance of hitting the turf. I also think Wentz feels he has to do too much between the pressures of the past and Foles and the bad receivers mentioned above.
Sanders was drafted to be the guy and they are forcing him into that role too soon. He isn't ready. Between the poor vision, the dancing, and fumbling issues, I feel he should be reduced to a 3rd down/receiving back and let Howard take over. Won't change the fact that the receivers stink. Alshon is either hurt or lost it overnight, and Jackson has been hurt all year. Outside of that they have literally nothing. Nelson is a frustrating bust, JJaw is invisible, Hollins is jag.
I still like Pederson, but I wonder if the team just got too complacent after the Super Bowl and lost their edge, desire, hunger, whatever. Way too many mental mistakes happening all the freakin time. Still, that's Pederson's job to get them to focus, so the buck stops with him.
Haven't even addressed the d-line that gets no pressure, the DBs that can't cover, and for some reason any time they blitz they run directly into lineman. So weird and frustrating.

I’m still in on Doug but if guys are late and not showing up (think Bradham earlier) etc than a lamb has to go to slaughter. There’s being a players coach and than here’s being a doormat. It’s a thin line.
If you think Jefferey is the talker send him to Miami or Cincy for pennies on the dollar and just cut Aghalor period. People need to fall in line.

But by doing that you're saying you give up on this season, because who you going to trot out there? Jaw and Hollins? That's all that's left.
As crazy as it seems now, they have a ridiculously easy schedule at the end. The kind where they rattle off a bunch of wins against garbage and potentially sneak into the playoffs like last year.

You have to cut the cancer out. I’m fine with seeing these young guys play in place of a WR who talks like he’s in HS and runs like a 3rd TE and one that can’t catch a cold. Start developing a chemistry with these young guys and start feeding Howard, Ertz and Goedert more.
He definitely played a part. Same with Defilipo. It’s not a coincidence they’re doing well with trash at QB. Damn McDaniels killed that for us

1 postseason is almost meaningless when you look back at bad teams winning Super Bowls. 9-7 NYG beating undefeated Patriots comes to mind.
To clarify - winning the super bowl once does not prove that much - a lot of luck goes into winning (or losing) 3-4 games.

Not following this one. Beat Atlanta at home and smoked Minnesota the week after. Or do you mean lucky to overcome the loss of Wentz? Either way that’s coaching and a damn good job by him and the staff.

Yes. Very similar... almost like they let the wrong coach go (Atlanta certainly) for their offensive personnel.

IIRC Atlanta had the ball at the end of the game with a shot to score and win.
But generally speaking, getting to the Super Bowl takes a lot of luck.

Ya I don't get that either... Sure the stars aligned and Nick played lights out, but they weren''t a 9-7 team.
The Eagles had the best record in the NFL that year.

I'm pretty confused by this sentiment. Every time they show Pederson on the sidelines he's looking at a play sheet through his reading glasses. He's calling the plays right?
OC Game plans, comes up with schemes, comes up with the plays that are on the sheet.
Doug calls the plays from that sheet.

Like Deamon said, OC makes the game plan in collaboration with Doug and the QB coach during the week but ultimately the plays on the sheet and what people practice are chosen by Groh. Doug then chooses from the sheet on game day based on their pre-planning.

Maybe Thrash and Stinkston still have some tread on their tires, bring them in for a workout!
IMO the most obvious answer is Manny Sanders. AB84 is a locker room cancer, huge off the field risk, etc., and Green is likely gonna cost a heap in draft capital. Sanders can probably be had for a 4th.

Ya... which makes me think that Duce or Doug taking over as OC is not going to help at all. SO not sure what firing Groh would do mid season. I for sure want him gone after the season and bring in some hot college coach.
Kind of a catch 22 because what if we give up picks for this 'win now mode' and lose next week which pretty much toasts us from playoffs? I think if we beat Buffalo next week then sure let's look at bringing some people in, but if not, not sure I want to give up any picks.
Wouldn't mind Sanders AND Harris from Denver if we are in the hunt.

The difference between Reich and Groh, imo, is huge. Reich has a decade more experience , and has actually worked for good offenses. Groh working only ever as a WR coach for ####ty NFL teams and college teams.
Maybe Pederson just the type of HC that needs a strong OC, and isnt good enough to carry the offence on his own.

You take flyers in the 4th round. You don't take them in the 2nd round. That was one of the biggest reasons I hated that pick. If it's a flyer you pick him in the 4th not the 2nd where the guy picked there needs to be contributing in someway by the 2nd half of his rookie season unless he's uber talented and dropped for character reasons or another red flag.
