*Official 2019 Philadelphia Eagles Thread* - Season's over; Go Away Now... (3 Viewers)

i don't watch many of these because they come off like a pep rally for the team, but this one left me with 2 things:

1) Groh at least sounds like he knows what he is doing. just hope he can show us

2) Eagles need to sign Howard to a 2-3 year extension. his block on Miles run is wonderful

It’s been more than 13 months since the Eagles had a healthy secondary (week 3 2018)

They’ve played 23 consecutive games with at least one of their starters missing.

On Sunday, when the Eagles face the Bears at the Linc, the band will finally be back together.

16 starting DB's in 23 games. That's amazing. No wonder our secondary sucked (notice I am putting that in the past tense!)
Now add the extra time to throw because our DL is taking lunches and it can get just bad. We REALLY need to be as healthy as possible heading into the bye and hope corrections are made.

With a mostly healthy secondary, playing at home, against a struggling QB, and a resurgent ground game...this game should get ugly fast. Eagles SHOULD blow them out

Gonna be very interesting to see how much momentum they carry over from last week. I just want a fast start. Give me that and I’m good!

It should be.  But we all know these things rarely go like we think they will.  Esp with these eagles

they're just getting warmed up, as Al Pacino would say.

This eagles team is about to return to dominance, defense is healthy, offense is rolling.

Miami, Washington, giants 2x, cheesy Bears offense, seahawks porous defense,  cowboys on again off again team  on the horizon.

they're going 11-5. give them a loss to Ne or Sea, all others are wins.

Plus Sea is a home game for us.

I'd be thrilled with 10-6.

Sounds good to me

We did what we needed to do but man it should not have been that close.

Any news on djax?  They said precautionary to keep him out but that's all I heard

Bye could not have come at a better time. We need all the time in the world to heal and prepare for New England.

That was too close.  I was having flashbacks to that Panthers game last year.  Should have won easily but am insanely relieved.  Would have been a stressful trip to Philly in 2 weeks but now I can be slightly more relaxed and have a good time.

Nice being 5-4 heading into the Bye.  Lets get healthy and Groh needs to figure his #### out.

We have no receivers that are playmakers. It’s really frustrating.

Maybe now with a healthy backfield our D can bail us out.

I blame Doug for this one. After Chicago scored, he called 6 straight passes and then punt. They forgot about the run for 3 straight drives. Finally got back to it and grinded the game away

I didn’t see game, djax came out after one play? He’s so unreliable it’s brutal.....even more brutal is none of the young WR stepping up.

Mack Hollins looks like he doesn't even want to play anymore. JJAW is no where near ready. That's obvious now. Alshon dropping the ball lately and Nelson is ok lately.

JJAW being nowhere near ready is a problem. He was a 2nd round pick and can't get on the field??
He must he horrible to not even throw him out there to get some experience as bad as the others have looked. Why not throw him in and sink or swim.......DJax probably won’t be back.

all I'm seeing is he has to go further testing on ab injury:   https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2861114-eagles-desean-jackson-undergoing-tests-on-abdominal-injury-after-exit-vs-bears

Doug said this:

John Clark✔@JClarkNBCS

Doug Pederson says tests will be done on DeSean Jackson tomorrow but Eagles are hoping it’s not bad

“We had a backup plan. We had to go back to what we’ve done the previous 6 weeks. We were hoping that he could play the entire game. Hopefully he’ll be ready in a couple weeks”

i don't like that at all, and makes me little upset they never traded for some burner from another team. If they say he wil be ready in a couple of weeks i am guessing he is missing New England

The Eagles’ game-ending 16-play FG drive was the longest fourth-quarter scoring drive against the Bears in 16 years - since the Vikings had a late 16-play TD drive on Sept. 14, 2003 at the Metrodome (capped by an 11-yard Culpepper-to-Kleinsasser TD).

Mack Hollins has more penalty yards then receiving yards this year.
I get it, he sucks but it’s starting to get out of hand with the criticism of him. When Jackson is healthy he was our 4 and 5 when JJAW was getting playing time early on. A lot of teams 4 and 5 WR’s suck.

Okay, the win should have been a lot more convincing then it was. But you have to be impressed with Wentz on that last drive. I know it doesn't count as a game winning drive because the Eagles were already ahead, but that was a game winning drive, and he made 4 great 3rd down conversion plays. I think when he gets a deep threat again (probably not until next season the way Jackson is going), Carson will start putting up big numbers like he did in week 1.

I really like the Sanders/Howard duo in the backfield.

Comparison from last  year vs Chicago is interesting:

- We scored more points!

- Run game a LOT better

- QB play was, imo, better. Foles had more yards, but also two int's. Foles also had ZERO drops by the WR's in that game.

-  Trubisky threw for 300 yards on us last year.  This time, barely 150. I know he's regressed, but it's essentially the same scheme and players.

- The WR difference really stuck out. Agholor was his same bleh self in both games, with ~ 30 yard in each. Jeffrey had similar targets in both, but due to his drops in this game has half the yardage. Last year Golden Tate had a decent game there as well - and we had no other WR's step up to fill his spot. Essentially Goedert picked his game up to fill in for Tate's production.

Goedert again got just as many snaps as Ertz - and with 4 catches on 5 targets, is doing a lot more with his chances then Agholor's 3 catches on 8 targets (I know one at least was low % bomb but still).

Yeah, but he sucks worse than pretty much ALL the other teams' 4th WRs (he's clearly ahead of JJAW on the depth chart right now.) Which means he's a waste of a roster spot if that's what he is giving you. Even on ST lately he has done dumb things like running into the kicker. Add in injury history and that this is his 3rd year and he's shown no progress, it's time to move on. Bye week is the perfect time to move someone up, or try signing someone like Jordan Mathews, to replace him.

I really wish the Eagles hadn’t run DJax out this week, with a BYE week 10.

for all the complaining in the Adams topic over the last month, holding him out longer sure seems to have gotten him past his injury 100%.

They're saying he’ll be ok after the BYE, but if he truly aggravated that abdominal tear, that’s just so bad for Wentz/Eagles outlook moving forward.

IMO his deep threat ability is the key to this offense. Without that they’ll continue to win or lose ugly, with middling numbers from Wentz.

How important are turnovers?

-In the Eagles 4 losses, they have turned the ball over 12 times and are a -6 in turnover margin

-in the Eagles 5 wins, they have turned the ball over twice, and are a +5 in turnover margin.

Mack Hollins has played 179 snaps in the last five games. He has zero receptions during that span.

Arcega-Whiteside has played 179 snaps so far this season, and he has two receptions.
That's beyond "every team's WR4/5 is bad" stink.

Yes I'm all for JMatt coming back for round 3. They got rid of him because they didn't want to pay him. Now that that is not an issue, bring him in and put him right in the rotation. At least he's a guy that will catch a ball in the 10-25 range.

It's mind boggling that the eagles passed on Josh Gordon. With Alshon regressing to an average to below-average receiver, he would easily be our best receiver. And it wouldn't have cost us anything.  If he relapses and pees hot after 4 games, so what? What was lost?  He's got a drug addiction but he's a hard worker and he's not a locker room problem. It's very frustrating watching other contenders snatch up guys like Jalen Ramsey and Emmanual Sanders, but at least you can take consolation that we didn't give up draft capital.  But allowing Seattle to add Gordon to their roster when Wentz' only weapons are Ertz, Goedart, and Sanders is infuriating.

That said, nice win yesterday. Bears defense is legit and are currently #1 in the league on third down and in the red zone. Over 400 yards of offense, running for 150, and possessing the ball over 40 minutes are all excellent stats.

just looking ahead to NE, we better run the ball 40 times.  That run defense got exposed last night.  The combo of potentially exposing a weakness/setting up a blue print against the Pats while also giving a clearly angry Bill two weeks to gameplan for us makes me anxious/nervous as hell for this game.

Yep my biggest fear for our week 11 game was the pats losing to the ravens.  Bill and Tom are going to come in motivated af and be planning hard for this.  Tom's final game ever in Philly too.

Also feel like they're ready for a little super bowl revenge.  The last time we faced each other after both of us having a bye was that lovely sunday in february.

They’re literally like our 7th and 8th options in the offense. They’re used more as scape goats now instead of going after the actual issues.

On a positive note, Belichick is famous for taking away the QB's best weapon, and Wentz doesn't have any.  lol   Just kidding, but I would imagine he will make Ertz the priority, which means Goedert needs to step up.  It will be challenging with Bellichick and staff having two weeks to prepare.

Yep for sure.  A bit worrisome.  I'm going into the week with low expectations and expecting a loss so that I can actually enjoy all the pre-game events and not be stressed the whole time I'm there haha.  The stuff I'm invited for this time around is just insane... I'm incredibly lucky.

I think Doug dials it in for this next game. He knows what works for this team. Power running and utilizing the TEs in short and intermediate routes. Yes this offense would be at peak performance if Desean was 100% but that's not going to happen this year.

I have to put faith in Doug to see what is working for his offense and to hope that he puts together a gameplay to dominate bon the ground and keep the ball away from NE.

The plus side is that NEs offense isn't built for the quick deep strike either. So our biggest weakness isn't as big a deal against them. Tom's arm is not what it used to be and they don't have any receivers who can go deep anyway (maybe Sanu).

It's going to come down to our defense making stops and turnovers. If they can do that, we will win.

I feel we have a great chance against NE provided Doug commits to the run game. Our line could smash this “historic” defense. Stanley is proving to be much better than anticipated in run blocking (and I’m happy to eat crow on that point). Howard should be a focal point and ya know what? You see how well Lamar did last night? Our #11 is no slouch as an athlete either. If ever the team was gonna take the reigns off Wentz maybe having designed runs and more running opportunities—this would be it.

Belichick had two weeks to prepare for Philly before the Super Bowl too.  Stay positive.
