Eagles News: Decision to have padded practices didn’t go over well with all players

As thankful as I was for many of these guys giving us a SB I’m beginning to dislike many of them more and more.
I'm gonna play devils advocate here just because I see where they are coming from and agree with you on how I feel about a few.

As a team with leadership in the NFL you kind of want to go over what you want to do for the week. I think the staff could've gone to the Veteran leadership  council at the very least and said we are holding a padded Practice X day this week. At the very least give them a heads up. Seems like no one player wise was aware of it and had to just suit up. Usually (I could be wrong) but the players know when a padded practice is as some players get ready for that differently than the non padded ones. It's extended courtesy between players and coaches to show a trust in one another.

However back to me the fan now I think they are being babies about it. Not sure it's the time to admit things like that. I love Graham but I think it'd have been better had he not mentioned how some guys weren't happy about it. Maybe if the season turned around and we won a SB thats something that if someone mentions something he can say "yeah at that particular time a few guys weren't too happy about it as the coaches didnt go to the Vet Leadership council and talk to us beforehand about it. Was just put out there by coaches the same day it happened. Some guys prepare differently for those types of practices." and leave it at that. Maybe add a we understood what they were trying to get out of it and respect that decision in there as well.

Doug is down to just 2 options as I see it:

1. Cut the cancers out and rebuild. Doesn’t matter who, they have to go if they’re not on board

2. Watch it burn and get yourself fired after next season.
I could give a few names who I think will be gone but I'd rather not in case I'm speaking out of turn on some stuff I know I've kept privately. I'll just say that the coaches and players know who these guys are. Some of them might surprise you who they are too. No its not a QB either. I will say one of those guys who names keeps floating around though (Since we've talked about it here I can say it) is Alshon Jeffrey. There's always been issues with him dogging it and stuff. Scouts said in his college days prior to the draft he's a top 10 pick WR but his work ethic and drive is questionable at times. Think that's been rubbing off on some of the guys and gotten them complacent.

I'm convinced they're going to win the division, somehow win the first playoff game, get Jackson back for the divisional round bringing false hope to all of us, then crap the bed royally. Or they win the Super Bowl leaving the entire league to scratch their heads for the next 6 months.
Thats such a Philly thing to do too. Win out and win the SB or win out win a playoff game get Jackson back and give us false hope then Georgia it the next round. Gut feeling is the former is happening here.

If true, they must have known this before this season, so restructuring his contract the way they did makes even less sense. Possibly the worst move they made this year.

I'm not sure if he's one of the guys or not. I think it's just assumed since he's good friends with Josina Anderson who first reported all that BS about a player complaint and many just assumed it was Alshon because of those things. Also I mentioned the other stuff because those things fit the narrative here and I should've said at the end IMHO I think that could be rubbing off on some guys. I haven't been given specifics on why certain guys are mentioned. I've been told a few list of names that could go. Not necessarily part of the problem but also guys who just aren't part of the solution to begin with. I know one of the reasons Wiz was brought back and cut again was they didn't like how he ran his mouth after being benched last year. He apologized they brought him back cut him again as he seemed to start sulking when he realized he was gonna be a back up here again. He was a simple cut do to no money owed to him. I know guys like Wentz, Sanders, Kelce, Ertz and Peters are giving their all out there offensively. Graham and when he's heathy Bradham defensively. One of the reasons Brown was cut was attitude issues. That and his lack of skillsets needed they realized just how limited he was to the Defense. LJ Forte was a surprise cut this year. From what I heard Hollins wasn't cut for attitude issues or anything. It was simple they realized he was nothing more then what he'd be. They want to see what Ward and JJAW can do and someone had to be on the chopping block this week given some team wanted Sua Opeta and they didn't want to lose him. They really like Sua and think he could be a decent back up at the very least and provide some depth. I think he's one of those G/C or G/T combos they like to have too.

in reality even if the Eagles back into the playoffs at 7-9, you’re going to be pumped up WC weekend.
I'm not saying we're good by any means... but why do people assume if Seattle came to Philly, that they would 'pump' us?

We lost to them by one score a few weeks ago, without our best RB and top two WR's... all of whom should be back by then.

I think he’s saying that the fan base would be excited and that we’d have a shot. Didn’t Seattle win their division a few years ago at 7-9 and then beat N.O. With the famous “Beastquake”? Or am I getting games mixed up.....

That's correct.  Carolina at 7-9-1 also beat an 11-5 Arizona Cardinals team.

Can you clarify this?  One of the names floating around is Jeffrey but then you're not sure.  Are you hinting that there could be an anti-Jeffrey contingent floating falsehoods?

When did I say that?

Yep I definitely misread the wording of his message there.  In fairness, the sentiment among many people (not Fred, but other posters and sports media) is that whoever wins this div is gonna be out round 1. Even some talk in the "should a losing record host a playoff game" thread about a potential seattle/philly round 1 game (which would seem the most likely matchup should we win the div), would be the biggest road playoff favourite ever.

Imo, we beat that Seahawk team a few weeks ago with Howard, alshon, Nelson. 2nd round?  Ya we would prob get beat but I think the div winner has at least a decent shot of beating the wc team in round 1.

You guys have enough talent to beat anyone IMO when healthy.  It’s just a matter of putting it all together at the right time for a 4 game stretch.  Now I have absolutely no evidence that the Eagles can do that this year against good opponents (given the inconsistency that they’ve shown on both sides of the ball).  But anything is possible.  My team, on the other hand, has a very good shot to make the playoffs but they don’t even have the potential on offense to churn out 4 wins in a row against good teams.  I would rather be in your shoes this year.

Fred's right. No clue why they are so damn inconsistent, but this Eagles team has shown the potential to beat just about anybody.

(And the potential to lose to almost anybody :( )

If they make playoffs, I would guess their Vegas odds of winning super bowl would be about 3-4 %

In keeping with the theme of the last handful of posts, this story is for the diehard old-time Eagles fans...

The year was 1968.  Back then it was a 14 game season.  Going into week 12, the Eagles were 0-11.  They were on their way to the #1 overall pick in the 1969 draft.  They won their next 2, lost their last, and finished with a record of 2-12.  Of course they narrowly missed out on the #1 pick, but they did manage to draft RB Leroy Keyes with their top pick.  He went on to have a stellar (I mean cellar) career, racking up a grand total of 369 yards over 5 seasons, with a 3.0 YPC.  And who did they miss out on because of that 2nd win?  Just some guy named Orenthal James Simpson.
Hence snowballs at santa

why?  that loss had practically no bearing whatsoever on their playoff standing.
if the cowboys had won, they would be 7-6, 4-0 in division and 6-4 in conference.

Eagles win out, they are 9-7, 5-1 in division and 7-5 in conference.

Cowboys win all but the game against the Eagles, then they would be 9-7, 5-1 in division, and 7-5 in conference.

So they would be even.

So what's next common opponents?  It seems like in that scenario, the Eagles would be 7-4 against common opponents and Cowboys 6-5?  Is that why you are saying there is no difference?

No matter what the Cowboys did this week, if Eagles win out the division is theirs. Even after losing to the Dolphins, they "control their own destiny" because this division is terrible.

yea, pretty much.  Eagles still need to win out. And regardless, if they DON'T win out - they lose divisional games which kills any tiebreakers even if they split the Dallas games.  There's some scenarios where Dallas loses a ton too - but for the most part, Eagles need to win out.

Stuck with the Eagles Defense in most leagues for this week. IN one league, I need FOUR points from them to win. IN another, I need 7.

I'm up by 3 and he has no one left. I have Eagles DST and Goeddert. Just have to hope they show up and I don't get negative. There's no way that can happen after last week.

Conversely in my other league, I'm down  22 and only have Carson left. So if there was ever a time for a big game, Carson, tonight's the night. 300 and 3 TDs ought ta do it. #LTBB

You're right, forgot division record is the next tie breaker. Either way losing to the Bears was still meaningless for the Eagles.
Not necessarily.  If we beat  NYG and WAS the next 2 weeks, and Dallas loses to the Rams next week, we can clinch the div by beating them and rest our starters week 17.
If DAL loses to the Rams, that MIA loss for us is even a bigger deal, since it would have meant we could still lose to DAL and win the division by beating NYG, WSH, NYG.

Yep for sure.  Can't believe that.  And at this point I think the Rams should win that game (but 10 days off for Dallas and season on the line so not sure).

I'd rather beat Dallas and rest our starters week 17 though.

I need a combination of 24.5 PTS from Wetz/Ertz tonight and I win my toilet playoff bowl match up getting me 2 wins closer to the 1st overall pick next year.

I know, I need some points out of Wentz to advance.
I'm in a bit better spot with having both Wentz and Ertz. All I need is 12-15 from Wentz and Ertz to give me 11 or some combination of that for a win. A TD pass from Wentz/Ertz gets me 12 right there plus the 1 pt reception 13 and whatever added on the yardage of the play. SO I'm in good shape.
