Honestly we could make a whole documentary of an Eagles fan with a rag tag indy film crew going around talking to fake cowboy fans and getting their comments and reactions. You'll be laughing your ### off from not just the comedy of it but how dumb some of them really are in terms of football knowledge. 

I've said for yrs the only time I've ever had an issue at The Vet or Linc is some Cowboys fan. I can talk and related to a NYG or WAS fan all day. One of my favorite customers is a Washington fan. We make fun of each others teams but we can have a serious football discussion too on issues surrounding both teams or the league.

You'd be surprised at some of the "diehard fans" I come across who don't even mention certain players. I've found tests like that to these people really exposes them the most. It also shuts them up faster.

I’ll bow outta here for now with this slight pushback...

Most fans of teams are toolbags and the Cowboys are no exception. We have more toolbags because we simply have more fans than most teams. 
 

I will push back a little on the fair weather fans thing. You can’t on one hand say the Cowboys haven’t won anything in 25 years and then on the other hand call us fair weather fans. 

When does this fair weather come?????????? WHEN DAMMIT?!?!?!?

I think most Eagles fans get Cowboys fans who were either born, grew up or live in Texas.  It's guys who lived their whole life in a Philly suburb and have no idea who Chad Hutchinson was but show up in their Michael Irvin jersey whenever the Cowboys have a good season that are annoying.

Taking this way too personally. Most of us are referring to the people who were born and raised in the Philly area but call themselves Cowboys fans. They usually emerge when they are doing well, have no clue who is on the team, but are the loudest, then mysteriously disappear when they start doing poorly. Safe to assume most on this board don't apply to that stereotype, but believe me, they exist and are the worst.

100% true story: I've known TWO different Philly-area "die-hard" Cowboys fans that have referred to the Patriots as their "AFC team" during the Patriots last 20 years of success.  :yucky:

Why couldn't Dillard play Guard? Why would we have to get rid of him if we stilll think he is going to be a good offensive lineman?

Getting this really bad vibe this week. People celebrating like we won already. We all know the Eagles can certainly lose to a team as bad as the Cowboys appear to be. This is usually when we make a bunch of dumb mistakes and give them new life on the season. 

Hopefully the players are not buying this from the fans.

LOL, I'm not taking anything personally. 

Other than that I agree and think that what you're describing is 95% of  all "fans". Outside of fantasy football and back when I played I have met maybe 5 people in my entire life who know anything about football beyond the team name and the top 3-5 players.

Ive never understood this. Outside of being convenient, there is no reason to support your local team just because you grew up there. It's not like the players are from your city. 

As for me, Im a natural contrarian. I HATE ALL the local teams with the exception of Maryland and Georgetown basketball. The media here is toxic and negative as they come.

I don't think he can play guard and if I can find where I read it, the dude seems like a mental head case. He didn't like playing RT when they asked him too and pouted so what makes me think he won't do it to switch to guard.

Yeah he's talking about the people who never went there and I think it's worse that the Notre Dame crowd as a lot of them like Notre Dame because of the Irish thing and they are Irish. I can't stand the PSU side of things either but at least like 30% of the population in the philly area can say they went there or had family go there.

I got to think that you are in the minority here.  I would think growing up in an area is the # 1 factor that contributes to why a person becomes a fan of a team.  I was born and raised (for most of my life) in Pittsburgh.  Why would I have an affiliation to another team?  Most people take pride in the city that they live in and their respective sports teams.  They're also surrounded by a bunch of friends/people who also share that pride. 

Yes I did like the 49ers (late 80s) when I first started watching football but I was young, they were good and I liked their uniforms.  It didn't take long for me to find my true allegiance.

It's not convenience, it's natural and logical. If you went to Central High School, it's unnatural and illogical to say, "Even though I go to Central, I support Poly Tech. I don't owe Central my allegiance." 

Or: "Yeah she's my mom, and is decent at it, but I'm not going to root for her just because it's convenient. My favorite mom is the lady down the street. I have a strong interest in seeing her succeed and like to celebrate her life wins the most."

Not saying anyone HAS to root for the teams from their life-long hometown. Just pointing out that NOT rooting for them is by far the outlier.

Agree with these.  Usually people become a fan of the team they watch the most... so that's usually the local team due to going to games and whats is televised and talked about by your peers.  Also who your parents cheer for as they often buy you logo'd shirts as a kid.  Your parents likely cheer for the local team.

If you don't HAVE a local team I can see cheering for someone else, or if your parents were from a certain city or were fans of a certain team... but other than that it makes the most sense to cheer for the team from your city.

Americans are easily marketed to. Cowboy market themselves more than anyone else. Its a bad product, but as long as you have the advertising and hype, you will have a big following

You grew up in Pittsburgh but you root for the Eagles? By that logic, shouldn’t you be rooting for the Steelers? 
 

I’m sure it’s a regional thing too, here in the DMV there’s a strong contingent of anti-Redskins fans due to George Preston Marshall being a racist monster. That’s the number one reason there’s so many cowboy fans in this area. You also have all the transplants. 
 

The other is that most Redskins fans are fully body camo wearing hillbilly’s. (I love camo for hunting but I don’t wear it on the daily).

That and they’ve won 4 more super bowls with actual quality teams, not a bunch of bums wearing dog masks.

Sorry - should have clarified that I'm a Steelers fan.  I also post in this thread because I've lived in Philly area since 2006.

Which brings back to the point of how being surrounded by fans of a team, media of a team, etc by living there makes it hard to be indifferent about them.  If you live in Philly, you can't really be neutral on them, you need to either like or dislike them.  I know the Steelers are your fave team but you're so engulfed and surrounded by Philly fans that you just kind of become involved with the happenings of the team.  Luckily there's no Steelers/Eagles rivalry.

That's correct. I rooted for the Eagles during the Super Bowl run.  I listen to sports talk radio here (well I used to when I actually drove), obviously have a lot of friends who are Eagles fans and in general have come to like the city.  My son is only 6 and over the past year has become obsessed with football.  He loves both the Steelers and Eagles and I like to see him happy.  

Don't get me started on the Flyers though...........

Yeah I was quoting off you saying the Cowboys haven't won anything in 25 years, so how do they have such fairweather fans. The answer was you are not a fairweather fan. Maybe you have been thru the good and the bad. But any "new" Cowboys fans aka anyone basically born after the glory days, have been successfully marketed a bad product. Thats America. Plenty of those to go around.
