Official 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Thread (2 Viewers)

My MIL has a condo in Bonita Springs. I was there in June of 2013 when tropical storm Andrea came through, and I thought that was impressive. Can’t imagine what it’s like to be down there now.

Feel bad for Sanibel/Captiva. Such a beautiful place and now ravaged again. Getting 40-50 mph winds here southeast of Tampa with some stronger gusts. Rain is definitely going east to west.

ETA: Power flickered once so far so did as much work as I could before my laptop becomes worthless.

Done many vacations in Captiva. Beautiful place. I can’t imagine there will be anything left.

I've lost two people in Teams meetings because of flickers already :D

Jeff's now dead stream.

Johnny_one_eye on TikTok is live streaming from Englewood. His lanai is getting ripped apart

Ray.ban.man also streaming from the area

In fact, just search Ian on TikTok and then click LIVE at the top and there are several people live streaming

Honestly, I kind of don’t want to because it feels like the views/attention to these people just encourages them to do stupid/dangerous stuff.

I hope these graphic storm surge/flooding predictions are wrong:

Ft Myers

Naples
Interesting as 3 hours ago, so similar time frame, my FIL said the maps he's seeing shows central Cape Coral may not be completely flooded. Looking at the NOAA maps shows Cape Coral will be under at least 6ft. This is going to get ugly
The epically poor design of Cape Coral makes me really worried. Particularly seeing the sheer amount of folks live streaming from there.

Here's an excellent livestream. He switches back and forth between 6 different streamers/chasers and at some point has all six of them onscreen at the same time. A lot of good dialogue on there as well. He has radio communications with each of the streamers so they will chime in when they find something interesting and focus on that stream.

All of the storm chasers are in around the Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte Area.

Inner eye wall is getting ready to hit the Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte area so things are going to go south with those chasers pretty quick.

Ian is behind schedule speed wise. This isn't good.

They just said on a Cape Coral local channel that it's starting to speed up
Just said on ft meyers news down to 9mph, thanks IPTV!
9 is less than half the forecast. The eyewall land contact was expected 2 hrs ago.
hmmmm....our local guys have been saying between 1-2pm EST consistently since yesterday with speeds around 10 MPH.

I have to service 10 restaurants in Naples/Bonita Springs/Ft Myers tomorrow night/Fri morning....I wonder if any of them will be heavily damaged.

I suppose it depends on where landfall was forecast. It's been wobbling north struggling to not touch land for longer.

I learned something new. Landfall is only when half the eye is over a continuous landmass. I was looking at the edge of the eye being the landfall timeline. This normally doesn't matter, except when you can ride a bicycle comfortably inside the eye.

Sadly, you’re probably right.
This is the stuff that scares people half to death. Those homes are built to withstand these storms. I was just there. Stayed in a beautiful home on the water. It’s on stilts. Hurricane windows and shutters on entryways. Etc.

Key West gets creamed all the time and it’s still there.
