I don't really see what Purdues weakness was. They have a top 5 pick at combo guard. A good PG. A great 3-pt shooter in Stef. A really solid 4 man in Gillis that reminds me of Kenny Goins. And two centers that are both very good. In fact, I think Williams is criminally underrated and one of the best players in the entire country. Maybe it’s painter
Agree.

It’s Painter.

I'm going to make my first post here in the "no one cares about your bracket" stakes, inspired by last weekend when you were describing that and your errands.

We have a bracket at work that is over 2100 entries.  I hadn't paid attention to that bracket because my "main" one for my much-more-important Ugly Family Trophy is a shambles (only one of Final Four left).  Out of curiosity I looked today and saw that I'm in...eighth place.    Forgot I'd done this one a little riskier/wackier because of the high number of entries, and I have Houston winning it all.  Of the seven people ahead of me, three have already lost their champion, three have Duke, and one has Kansas.

So could everyone please take this as another reason to root against Duke, which all good people should be doing anyway?

First prize is some $5000 specialized e-bike.  Plot twist:  I don't know how to ride a bike.  :bag:

ETA:  Household tasks completed today:  dropped some cat poop off with the vet and deep cleaned the kitchen sink.
I'm in a bracket that is based in Houston.  I've done terribly this year but I'm the only person that has UH going to the championship game. I don't have them winning it all but if they make the final game I still stand a chance of winning it all.  BTW, I have watched most of the UH games this year and they are solid and have developed nicely this season, even with some big personnel losses. And they seem to be peaking at just the right time.

Go Coogs!

I think and argument can be made for any team left except the Peacocks.  Most thought Kansas was the worst #1.

I will say, as much as I dislike K, and national semifinal against UNC would be a helluva last or next to last game to go out on.

Since there's been such a public clamoring for it, here is my expert breakdown on the Elite Eight.

Houston (-2.5) vs Villanova. Both of these teams are tough as nails and have great coaches. I'm kinda shocked Nova is an underdog here, but this screams "one-possession game" so it doesn't really matter. First one to 60 wins? I'm going Houston, but I wouldn't bet my worst enemy's money on it.

Duke (-4) vs Arkansas. I pray I'm wrong, but I think the Hogs' run ends here. Arkansas is gonna have to shoot lights-out to have a chance, I think. SOOEY!!!!!!....... but Duke wins & covers.

Kansas (-6) vs Miami. Kansas is the most talented team left and they are really good. Their defense in the first half last night against Providence was magnificent and won them the game. Miami's backcourt ain't no joke and Laranegna is one of those "oh, jeez - we have to go up against THAT guy?" coaches other teams fear. I'm pulling for the U, but I think Kansas melts them down the stretch.

UNC (-8) vs St Peters. I don't ####### know, ok?  Davis has his boys rolling when they were kinda "meh" all season and St Peters keeps beating very good teams. That spread looks both too small and too big to me :loco:  I guess Carolina wins and St Peters covers?

That was their best team on paper in a long time, but had a lot of flaws IMO. Too many turnovers. Not a great FT shooting team. PGs weren't that dynamic. Were best when playing fast and had trouble vs. press at times. Defensively they were average at best.

I think Edey had a really good year and think he can get better. Still is very green. For his size advantage he should be dunking way more than does. Not great hands and average/poor FT shooter.

PGs were very average IMO. Hunter Jr. came on late in the year and had some nice games, but wasn't that dynamic. He was also was an average FT shooter. Newman was MIA most of the year (Painter?) and Thompson really wasn't an impact player.

Williams was fun to watch. Love his low post game. He isn't a great FT shooter. He made some amazing passes and crazy shots. He sometimes got too cute and would force a low percentage pass when he didn't need to, but that was his game and he'll be missed.

I thought Gillis was really good. It took him some time to get going after his suspension. Great FT shooter. Tough rebounder. Just needs to work on his shots. If he doesn't get suspended the first 4 games he could of been even better this year.

Ivey is obviously an NBA talent. Super athletic. Really improved from last year. The problem with Ivey showed up in this loss. When he plays against a very good defense that can bottle him up and keep him from getting to the rim, he kind of just starts chucking 3's. He needs to develop his mid range shot. I'll be interested to see how he develops as a pro. I think he can be a point guard at the next level, but will be a work in progress. Fun to watch. What could've been if he makes the 3 to go to OT.

It was a fun year. I thought they had a chance to win it all, but also wouldn't of been surprised to see them flame out early. Sweet 16 was about right in the end. Saint Peter's played a great game and deserved to win.

I like Nova, Duke, Kansas and UNC - surprising final four but damn that’s some blue bloods of the sport.

I agree the Hou-Nova is a tossup but Wright is just an outstanding coach and will make the difference.

Arkansas and Miami both have the talent to win but they don’t have Duke/Kansas talent.

St. Peters run has to end, right?  I think UNC overwhelms them and it may be a blowout.

What a win for Miami!

Leading scorers last game were shut down, with Moore's shot clearly off...didn't matter, he set the others up and they had good games. Love the teamwork. Still just insane defense. Larranaga's scramble defense being misnamed chaos D by announcers ummm that'll work too.

Guys on Twitter and social media loving my uncle, calling him wholesome and wanting to root for him- that's been real special. Player putting his arm around him, him giving a peck on the cheek embarrassing like during interview, guys getting choked up post game talking about their teammates (not themselves) post game, dancing....it's all been so wonderful.

He really sincerely is a good good guy from the Bronx. People have almost never believed an awe shucks guy could be from there. 🙂

I wish I wish I wish the basketball world would pay attention to what's happening in this NCAA tournament.

The NBA doesn't play defense and many college programs give a half effort in a similar vein.

Eight teams that dive for loose balls and literally give it their all on D remain. Coach K and coach Larranaga have spent their careers preaching defense, selflessness, and teamwork; the young coaches are doing it during this tourney and guess who is winning?

Oh how I wish this would change the game back to being played the right way. What an awesome way for Coach K to finish his career if so.

It won't. We'll watch Lebron fake a foul and forget all about this when the NBA playoffs start but...man, I wish this was more common.

If y'all could look for something- many of the remaining coaches don't yelling all grumpy during timeouts. They know those guys are giving 💯 and they're just teaching. I'm not sure we'll ever see that again and it's just so subtle so wow impressive.

Rooting interests for remaining teams:

1. St. Peter‘s
2. Houston
3. Miami
4. Arkansas
5. Villanova
6. UNC
7. Kansas
8. Duke

Oh please. There is a ton of great defense in the nba, easily the best in the world. You aren’t seeing great D in college, you’re seeing a bunch of sub-optimal players (compared to the next level) who are playing their final games brick wide open shots that nba players would make with their eyes closed. It’s horrible to watch which is why nobody does in the regular college season. We are all tuned in now for the drama of single elimination and our stupid brackets.

NBA players dive for the balls in their playoffs too. Total nonsense.

It’s wild to me that there are people who think the ideal form of basketball is some scrappy kid bricking 3s off the backboard but slapping the court when he gets back on D, instead of Lebron James, easily one of the 2-3 most gifted players ever.

My bracket is officially toast so I need something to root for besides St Peters.  Good Luck and go Houston!

What a contrast of possibilities - on one extreme, the four blue bloods.  On the other extreme - Arkansas, Houston, Miami, and St. Peter's.

UNC by double digits tomorrow.
If UNC plays Dooke and it's a close game (with announcers fawning over the possible end of Coach K's career), I'll make sure there's an ambulance standing by for you to address the extreme spike in your blood pressure..

Is it a possible end?  Thought the dude was 100% done?

I so want a St. Peter’s Kansas championship.

Is the Final Four/Championship not on CBS a normal thing of late?  I was able to reactivate old Sling acct to see the game,  I don’t remember last year if same thing happened

2016 contract set up alternating rights between CBS and Turner.   2020 was supposed to be Turner, but the tourney was cancelled. 2021 was on CBS.  This year back to Turner.

ETA - Original deal was signed in 2010 for 14 years and the 2016 deal was actually an 8 year extension.

Proud to be a Bearcat tonight.

Northwest Missouri State became the first team in D-2 history to threepeat, winning their third consecutive and 4th title in 5 years.

What a run this team has been on. Coach McCollum is building quite the dynasty in Marysville,  Mo.

Go Cats!!’

Congrats to the Cats!

UNC destroying Duke in K’s last home game, but then losing to them in the final four would be objectively hilarious.
