Kid wants a Ronaldo jersey for Christmas (I assume the Portugal one but I guess his regular team would work too)
Those first however many minutes, where we just shredded a defense that was happy to bunker and try to keep the game tied, makes me very happy. They couldn't come close to stopping us.
Would love to have prime Jozy on this team.

Jozy, McBride, or Dempsey would all have worked really nicely in this team to help fill the talent gap at the 9.
was that the low header that made me crap my pants?

Link me to an ELI5 on this
I think we probably made more of our shots than you'd expect. Like more of them went on goal than expected. Just a guess though.Isn't xG a sum of all shots (be they on target or not). If that is true (which I am pretty sure it is), how can the all shots xG be lower than the Shots on Target xG? Shouldn't be always bigger or at the very worst, equal?
Last I heard, some Saudi team offered him 225 million for three years.(I assume the Portugal one but I guess his regular team would work too)
My kids at middle school and elementary school both told me teachers were playing the game. That made me really happy that the kids are getting this kind of exposure and excitement from this. Kids were saying they were all going crazy for Pulisic’s goal. From my son who is watching at school:
we ran out of our class and started screaming when pulisic scored
Granted we are in soccer-loving Miami but I hope the same thing happened all over the US.
Berhalter and Gio share a moment after the game (no, seriously)
The emotion you see in the World Cup is really something else.US players consoling an Iranian who has broken down into tears
It’s soccer. Anyone can win. Except Qatar. They suck.We can beat the Dutch right? This rules.
The soccer Gods demand that you get him an OG Ronaldo jersey. Maybe the Inter Milan one.Where is a good place to buy soccer jerseys? Kid wants a Ronaldo jersey for Christmas (I assume the Portugal one but I guess his regular team would work too)
Anyway I googled it and seemed like a lot of shady knockoffs so looking for some good legit sites
Man, if I were an 17-20 year old midfielder in the US system I'd be bummed at my prospects of starting for the next 5 or 6 years. MMA have probably got it locked up when healthy for quite awhile. Lots of room for depth and maybe some tactical flexibility, but it's going to be hard for anyone to break in.
ETA: who in that age range is even legit on the radar right now? McGlynn?

Had the same thought but the top sides are constantly moving in new guys as they progress. There may not be a guy on the radar now but I’d say it’s around 50/50 they will be the starting midfield in 2026.
The people of Iran really are amazing people. It's a shame their government is so backwards.Have you guys seen the various twitter videos of the people in Tehran celebrating the US victory? I fear that may not end well :(

I am going to do this when the world cup ends for the US but I am going to line up all the players 24 and under who made this roster and I will try to convince people that 3-5 of the names on the list won't make the roster in 2026.

Moore, 2 goal keepers, Sargent, Haji, Ream, Zimmerman, CCV, Long, Yedlin, Acosta, Morris
I think that's a slam dunk. Probably need to about 10

Most of those guys are over 24.

Paul Caligiuri just smiled.I mean bad enough we regularly have to play Trinidad AND Tobago at the same time but now we have to play Holland, the Dutch, and the Netherlands ALL AT ONCE?!?!

Supreme Leadership forms of government rarely govern with the best interests of its people as a key focus.
Hope some change is coming. /No politics.

Picked my kid up from school at halftime. Kids were walking through the parking lot chanting U-S-A, couple of them watching on their phones. Security guard directing traffic asked one of them the score, kid yelled back "One nil US!"My kids at middle school and elementary school both told me teachers were playing the game. That made me really happy that the kids are getting this kind of exposure and excitement from this. Kids were saying they were all going crazy for Pulisic’s goal. From my son who is watching at school:

Also worth noting that non/new fans don't quite look at it like we do. While we all want the team to do well, I think we all know this a dress rehearsal for 2026 given the age of the team.
Any experience we pick up here is only going to feed into the next cycle (which hopefully US Soccer does not botch since we need to find as many competitive games as possible with out qualifying being in the picture).
My last period of the day is a class in U.S. Government that runs from 1:45-2:30. I spent the first 15 minutes of class teaching the kids about the history of relations between the U.S. and Iran, up to the latest controversy with the U.S tweeting out the old Iranian flag. Then we watched the game for the last 30 minutes of class. Kids left too early to see the goal though. My kids at middle school and elementary school both told me teachers were playing the game. That made me really happy that the kids are getting this kind of exposure and excitement from this. Iran is ranked 19th in the World and the crowd was behind them. Our talent pool is past the point of being happy about a draw at Honduras or El Salvador. And we should be beyond the point of having to hold on by the skin of our teeth against Iran. Iran are a well organized team with SOME talent, but I didn't see anyone out there with game-changing quality. And we played scared against them instead of going for the jugular
I know non-positive comments are often not well received so I say this with hesitation, but for me, as a total noob, but someone that could be brought into the fold, the words above are a big deal.
It's surprising, and a bit sad honestly, to put this much effort into soccer and we're at a point where we're thrilled to tie a country with 3 million people. Or to have to eke out a win against Iran. Is that American delusion or stupidity? Maybe. But my honest opinion is it seems frustrating we're still at the point of being happy with a draw at Honduras.![]()
Apologies for the question, from here on out, it's single elimination, right?

Agree with the sentiment that the expectation should be that we get out of the group stage.
