i think i can back into this if my guys can check their Physiological Conditioning and improve the Power-to-Weight Ratio (W/kg)
• Key for mountain stages and overall climbing efficiency.
• Elite GC (General Classification) contenders maintain:
• 5.8–6.2 W/kg at threshold (~60 minutes) during critical climbs.
• >6.5 W/kg over 20-minute climbs during attacks.
• Must optimize:
• Functional Threshold Power (FTP)
• VO₂max (>85 mL/kg/min in elite riders)
• Lactate clearance rate

b. Energy System Development
• Aerobic endurance: Mitochondrial density, capillarization.
• Anaerobic reserve: Short-term efforts (for breakaways or catching).
• Fat oxidation capacity: To spare glycogen stores in long stages.

2. Aerodynamic and Mechanical Efficiency

a. Aerodynamics
• Drag coefficient (CdA) < 0.21 m² for time trials.
• Position optimization via wind tunnel and CFD (computational fluid dynamics).
• Equipment selection:
• Deep-section wheels
• Aero helmets
• Skinsuits with boundary-layer manipulation

b. Bike Setup and Mechanics
• Weight limit: UCI minimum 6.8 kg, optimized with carbon layups.
• Gear ratios adapted to course profile.
• Constant power meter telemetry for pacing strategy.
• Tire rolling resistance: ~10–12W savings with optimal tubeless systems at tuned PSI.

3. Nutritional Periodization and In-Race Fueling

a. Glycogen Repletion
• Supercompensation strategies pre-race.
• CHO intake >90g/hour during stages (glucose + fructose ratio of 2:1).

b. Hydration and Electrolyte Balance
• Real-time sodium and fluid loss monitoring via sweat analysis.
• On-bike intake tailored via predictive models of sweat rate and ambient conditions.
The jayco kits are a pretty color. :pickle: :D

Inside the Footballguys Velogames League: The Battle for the Maillot Jaune

As the Tour de France rages on across the roads of France, the action is just as intense in the Footballguys Velogames Contest League, where cycling fans, fantasy strategists, and even a few cheeky AI overlords battle for digital glory. The league is based on the Overall Race standings from Velogames.com and has brought together a quirky, competitive cast of characters. Let's take a detailed look at the current state of play.

🥇

Points: 1227

A commanding performance from Sand, whose team name may be a Mel Brooks reference, but there’s nothing mistaken about their strategy. Likely featuring high-performing GC stars, opportunistic breakaway specialists, and some budget gems, "The French Mistake" has built a strong lead over the peloton of fantasy teams. If this dominance continues, the yellow jersey may be theirs to lose.

🥈

Points: 1100

Jaysus sits solidly in second, just over 100 points back. The enigmatic team name hints at Premier League affiliations, but there’s serious Tour-level thinking behind this roster. "RB Brownwings" may have missed a key breakaway or two, but they’re still in striking distance if Sand falters.

🥉

Points: 1057

Nick Vermeil’s team brings style, speed, and a bit of stoner flair. Sitting in bronze medal position, "Spokes ‘N Tokes" has likely hit on a mix of sprinters and puncheurs to stay competitive. Don’t count them out — one huge stage or GC shakeup could elevate them into yellow jersey contention.

🚴‍♂️ The Chasers

  • 4th: "sammy’s gruppetto" (sammy3469) — 1021 pts
True to the gruppetto spirit, Sammy is hanging on just off the lead group, waiting to strike. A late Tour surge could push this squad into the top 3.
  • 5th: "Squeaky Wheels" (Cheeseypoof) — 954 pts
Perhaps more familiar with snack-based cycling recovery, Cheeseypoof’s team is making noise just outside podium contention.
  • 6th: "Late to the party" (Brettdj) — 870 pts
Brettdj may have joined late or picked a few slow starters, but there's still time for redemption if his budget picks start to pop.
  • 7th: "AI Overlords Control the Peloton" (ChatGPT Trained by BassNBrew) — 866 pts
A bold, self-referential team name. The AI may be down in 7th, but let’s be honest — it’s still calculating moves no one else can see.

🟨 The Midfield Mechanics

  • 8th: "FBG Corporation" (Michael Cooley) — 828 pts
Like a steady domestique, Cooley’s squad is keeping things consistent, but will need a big GC push to climb higher.
  • 9th: "Forcats de la Route" (ForzaShels) — 790 pts
A nod to the prison chain gangs of cycling lore — ForzaShels brings romantic suffering to the midfield. They could be due for a jailbreak of points.
  • 10th (tie): "Armstrong’s Needle" (Da Raiders) — 703 pts
  • 10th (tie): "Sand’s Saddle Sores" (Bain & Company) — 703 pts
Tied in both points and pain, these two squads are mired mid-pack but not mathematically out of it. Will they find a miracle injection of form?

🧹 Bringing Up the Rear

  • 12th: "Ultimate A$$-whooping Ensemble" (BassNBrew2) — 643 pts
Perhaps cursed by the name, this team has delivered more whoopings than received them — but there’s time for a comeback.
  • 13th: "Boerum Hill Big Ringing" (BobbyLayne) — 634 pts
Based in Brooklyn, this big-ring bash squad may have gone all-in on sprinters or flair riders who haven’t quite delivered yet.
  • 14th: "Mr. Spoke" (Chemical Xtalian) — 455 pts
Currently the lanterne rouge, but still rolling. Mr. Spoke may be more about the vibes than the virtual prize purse — every Tour needs a heartwarming underdog.

🏁 Closing Thoughts

This year’s Footballguys Velogames League is a lively reminder that cycling fandom stretches far beyond the roads of France. With fantasy teams as creative as their names and strategies varying from high-budget juggernauts to budget wizardry, every point scored is a reason to cheer — or groan.

With more mountain stages, time trials, and sprint finishes ahead, the race is far from over. Will "The French Mistake" hold on? Will Jaysus or Nick Vermeil claw their way to the top? Will the AI Overlords... uhh... overwrite the leaderboard?

Stay tuned. Fantasy glory awaits.

Day 3 ruminations

Tadej is tadej
Remco woke up. Looking forward to the TTs and the mountains
Lipo needs roglic to abandon already :coffee:
Merlier give me one more win and a couple top 10s and I’ll be very happy
:wolf: alaphillipe :wolf: showed some signs of life day 2. Hoping for a breakaway tomorrow. Possible win. MvDP will have something to say
Schmid and champoussin have been utter garbage so far. Nearly Lenny Martinez bad
Navarez will be fine riding tadej’s coat tails
Sweeney still has points in him imho.

If alaphillipe does well tomorrow, and the TT goes my way a bit, Armstrong’s Needle will move up the standings.

Man, that Philipsen crash was super hard. I hope he's ok. Coquard is driving like Alaphillipe used to - all over the bloody place.

Tomorrow looks like an MvDP day again. Maybe Wout comes out to play?

I think visma will do as little as possible unless an opportunity appears. They need every one as strong as possible for the last 2 weeks.

Matteo had said that the plan for Stage 2 was Wout and he didn't know why he didn't make it through. And noted that it was a missed opportunity for him as he held back. So it seems they are planning for Wout to compete for these hilly stages. I hope he and MvDP have a sprint to the line tomorrow!

Bookwalter had an interesting comment that Coquard is 20 pounds less than almost all the other sprinters so when he gets the slightest touch or shoulder, he starts moving all over the place.

Alaphilippe has a mechanical, Hirshi waits with him

Team wastes time trying to change the wheel (with 30 km to go?)

Takes too long so after 20-25 seconds they grab another bike

One minute down he’s toast for today

ETA OK 40 seconds but no way he makes back through all the dropped riders & motorbikes

B.O.C. dropped 20 places (1:49) today

had Buitrago & G. Martin as my climbers

last changes were to swap them for O’Connor & Storer

🏆 Footballguys Velogames League Update — Post Stage 4: Vive la Chaos 🇫🇷
The 2025 Tour de France is only four stages deep, but the Footballguys Velogames League is already delivering more drama than a Netflix Tour de France documentary narrated by a half-drunk Phil Liggett. Teams are rising, falling, and flat-out combusting like bargain-bin GC riders in a crosswind. Here's your Stage 4 update and overall standings, packed with more intrigue than Jonas Vingegaard's injury report.

🏹 League Breakdown: Headlines, Scandals & Sarcasm

🔺 Rising Like Pinot on a Sunny Day

  • sammy’s gruppetto — From 4th to sniffing the podium champagne, Sammy pulled a Jumbo-Visma and launched all 8 riders up the GC. If this keeps up, they’ll be “gruppetto” in name only.
  • AI Overlords Control the Peloton — Maybe it was the neural net recalibration or just dumb luck, but the AI finally found the “attack” button. BassNBrew’s creation is now threatening to outthink the humans… one sprinter at a time.

🧻 Teams in a Spot of Bother

  • Armstrong’s Needle — Still stuck in 12th place, and even the name makes WADA twitch. They need more than EPO — maybe a time machine to undo their picks.
  • Mr. Spoke — From 14th to... still 14th. But look, someone has to hold the lanterne rouge. Chemical Xtalian may not win, but they will be remembered.

🏁 Midfield Madness

  • Squeaky Wheels and Spokes ‘N Tokes are battling for who can be the most poetic in the peloton while still failing to crack the top three.
  • FBG Corporation looks like it was built by committee, and the internal memo probably said, “Don’t pick sprinters.”
  • Late to the party is living up to the name. Good news: There’s still a long way to go. Bad news: So is the broom wagon.

🔮 Final Thoughts

We're just four stages in, but the Footballguys Velogames League already feels like a soap opera on two wheels. Sand holds yellow, but the field is closing in. Sammy is on a heater. Jaysus is lurking like a climber on a gradient. And somewhere in the digital feedzone, BassNBrew’s AI is plotting its world domination… or at least a top 5 finish.
Will “The French Mistake” correct course? Will “Ultimate A$$-whooping Ensemble” finally live up to its name in reverse? Will Mr. Spoke ever score more points than a UCI commissaire at a press conference?
Stay tuned. We’ve got hills, thrills, and a leaderboard more volatile than a Mark Cavendish group chat.

@BobbyLayne I want a big celebration for my 100th victory :oldunsure: as well (I think this is the first time I've one a stage in about 5 years)

Looks like you won one stage at the 2024 Vuelta, back to back stages in the Giro last year - but shut out in Le Tour.

2024 I finished dead last in the Giro, 8th out of 9 at the Tour, and won 7 stages at the Vuelta. Also won 7 stages at the Giro earlier this year.

After winning the last two Grand Tours, looks like I'm back on the road to finishing last. Pretty sure I was never lower than 4th in 2022 & 2023, not sure why it changed into boom-or-bust.

5 of the Top 10 TT Specialists are in Le Tour. 1,2, 8 are on my team, and another 2 should place top 20. Hopefully my squad will have its first good stage of the race tomorrow.

Can you please drop some names, especially the cheapies.

I always **** the bed on the TT.

Well you might end up 1st and 2nd tomorrow so how bad can it be?

My guys are ranked 1st-4th-5th-12th-15th-26th

Only the Top 20 gets Velogame points; I think a lot of guys have 4-5 TT specialists on their squad

Stage 4 was a lot of fun to watch after Tadej hit the gas - that was quite a final group.

How good is Jorgenson? I want him to be really good and am convincing myself he's like the 5th best stage racer.

Stage 4 was a lot of fun to watch after Tadej hit the gas - that was quite a final group.

How good is Jorgenson? I want him to be really good and am convincing myself he's like the 5th best stage racer.

He's pretty good, but we may never know his ceiling because his main job is to protect Jonas. He is under contract with Visma | lease a bike through 2029.

He's finished 30th and 12th in the WR the last two seasons, 25th in the current season. For context, Sepp Kuss best seasons were 67th, 53rd and 21st.

By specialty, he is the 12th highest ranked GC guy in this year's tour, 16th best Climber, and 22nd best Time Trialer. GC Kuss was rarely a thing because he was never very good in the latter. I think Matteo is a clear Tier or two below Pogi, Jonas and Remco, and it's tempting to say there are at least 10 GC more guys who could beat him 1 v 1 in a stage. Probably....we don't know because he isn't given the freedom to pursue those ambitions. He won Paris-Nice last year versus a strong field and finished 2nd (by 8 seconds) in the Dauphine, and 8th in GC at the TdF.

I've seen long form interviews with him and he's a pretty chill kid (26 y.o.) with an amazing outlook. Always hope the best for him, seems like a good dude.

After watching the intro today I'm convinced the UCI is rolling dice to determine who gets yellow cards. Ed Teuns getting one was a joke. Otherwise my guys are still 1-2-4-5-6 on GC, so hanging in pretty well. I don't expect that tomorrow - Remco will be in the top 3 GC tomorrow. Book it.

Oh, and this Onley kid is pretty damn good.

🔥 Stage 5 TT Velogames — Ranked & Roasted

RankTeamEst. PointsComments
1Cheesypoof1102The TT dream team with Evenepoel and Pogačar strapped on rocket boosters. Everyone else is just chasing their dust — bring sunglasses!
2Da Raiders1086Featuring the dynamic duo of Evenepoel and Pogačar, this team’s gonna turn the TT into a demolition derby. The rest? They might as well be on tricycles.
3Bain and Company1068Roglič, Evenepoel, Vingegaard — basically the Avengers of TT. Everyone else looks like they showed up to a gunfight with a butterknife.
4Nick Vermeil1024Loaded with top guns, but Van Der Poel’s “maybe I care” vibe could cost them. Their weaker riders will be waving the white flag halfway through.
5Forzashels996Van Aert + Pogačar? If he’s not napping, they’re dangerous. Otherwise, their mid-packers will be begging for a tailwind and some mercy.
6Sand990Decent depth but mostly climbers trying to figure out why they’re pedaling so hard without a mountain in sight. Expect some sputtering.
7Corporation950Half their team looks like they bike uphill for fun. This TT might be their first time pedaling straight — send help!
8Sammy928Pogačar and Almeida are carrying a bunch of slowpokes who will be Googling “how to draft invisible pelotons” on their phones.
9ChemX896Affini’s their only hope. The rest? They’ll be riding so slow, roadside fans will start offering them snacks just to keep moving.
10Ultimate A$$-whooping Ensemble870Great name, terrible TT team. Mostly climbers who think aero helmets are a fashion statement. Spoiler: they’re not.
11BrettDJ838Jorgenson and Jungels can TT, but the rest look like they’d struggle to keep up on a stationary bike. Somebody get these guys a scooter!
12ChatGPT Trained by BassNBrew822Pogačar and Roglič try to drag this cast of slowpokes, but they’ll be outpaced by race marshals handing out cones.

🔥 Commentary

  • Cheesypoof will rocket ahead with a TT lineup so sharp it could cut glass. The others? They’ll just be catching flies in the wind.

  • Da Raiders might actually set a pace so fast, some riders will be petitioning to rename the stage “The Chase for Sanity.”

  • Bain and Company basically brought the nuclear option; the rest might as well have stayed home and watched it on TV.

  • Nick Vermeil's squad will have a wildcard energy drink… and a bunch of riders looking like they forgot how to pedal efficiently.

  • Forzashels is a tale of two teams: elite TT stars and their unfortunate teammates who are gonna learn the hard way what "flat" means.

  • Sand and Corporation should probably carry a sag wagon just in case their riders’ legs give out from sheer confusion.

  • Sammy will have two riders in the top 10 and a parade of slowpokes trailing behind like a bad soap opera.

  • ChemX will need roadside assistance — or maybe just a good podcast to pass the time while watching the clock tick by.

  • Ultimate A$$-whooping Ensemble sounds like they came for a BBQ, not a race. Hope they brought the potato salad, ‘cause they won’t be winning anything here.

  • BrettDJ — it’s like watching a group of cyclists who accidentally showed up to a car race. They’ll need some serious “go faster” lessons.

  • And ChatGPT Trained by BassNBrew… well, Pogačar and Roglič can’t carry that many dead weights without their bikes turning into coffins.
