***Official 2025 Pro Cycling Thread*** - This year a Grand Prize!!! (1 Viewer)

Don't say anything to him, but I took the battery out of BnB's bike. He's coming back to us, folks.
Nice work!!! Fill his tires with cement too!
Gonna need to more than that, I spent a good 20 minutes training Chatgpt. We progressed to 126 </= 100 so were making progress.

While it's not helping me make better Velegames lineups, it's boosting me self-confidence that I won't be replace in the near future.
Better try the Chinese version.

Head to head results in monuments between van der Poel Mathieu (Alpecin - Deceuninck) and Pogačar Tadej (UAE Team Emirates - XRG).

Year | Race | Mathieu van der Poel | Tadej Pogačar

2024 Liège-Bastogne-Liège | 3 | 1 |
2024 Milan-Sanremo | 10 | 3 |
2023 Ronde van Vlaanderen - Tour des Flandres ME | 2 | 1 |
2023 Milan-Sanremo | 1 | 4 |
2022 Ronde van Vlaanderen - Tour des Flandres ME | 1 | 4 |
2022 Milan-Sanremo | 3 | 5 |
2020 Liège-Bastogne-Liège | 6 | 3 |
2020 Milan-Sanremo | 13 | 12 |

Van der Poel had 4 top tens in the 5 monuments last year

first tider to accomplish that since 2011

number of riders to accomplish that feat by decade:
  • 70s - 7
  • 80s - 5
  • 90s - 5
  • 00s - 0
  • 10s - 2 (same rider)
  • 20s - 1
so only two guys in this century

BTW Pogi is riding Paris-Roubaix

doesn't suit him but definitely thinking about legacy at this point in his career

Good to know we have something in common with our EU brothers. Yesterday I read two race preview articles saying it would be cold but dry. We could probably hand the meteorology keys to Chatgpt right now and be just fine.

this is super interesting....

The number of injuries sustained per 10 days of racing in classics versus grand tours over the past 5 seasons.

  • Classics - 2.95

  • Grand tour stages - 1.11

In other words, for each 10 days of racing in classics there were 2.95 riders that sustained an injury.

In 1910, the Primavera gained eternal fame and a place in cycling legend because of the extreme weather conditions. Riders needed to take refuge in the houses along the roads because a severe snowstorm scourged the peloton. Just four out of 63 riders finished the race.

The 2013 edition of Milano-Sanremo was affected by abysmal weather conditions from start to finish. Heavy snowfall and below-zero temperatures forced organizers to shorten the race by 52 kilometres, eliminating the climbs of the Passo del Turchino and Le Manie, and arranging a bus transfer for the race to begin a second time in Cogoleto.

Thanks Bobby for the interesting facts. Much more interesting than Goff factoids. :p Hopefully you don't abandon us during the draft and OTAs.

Cycling news may have hired Bob...

130KM TO GO

Alpecin lead the peloton, which is strung out in a long line. Their defecit to the leaders now stands at 2-48, having gone up a little.

120KM TO GO

Still it's Alpecin who lead the peloton. They've got the gap down to 3-20.

Never say never, eh.

If I disappear it'll be because I've finally had enough of Joe deleting threads for having oblique references to politics.

I work at the VA. 80K jobs are about to be eliminated. The nationwide payroll system has been inaccessible since Wednesday night. It's weighing heavily on my mind. Would be an interesting factoid to drop somewhere. Especially since, so far, it is absolutely unreported by the media - probably bc everyone is scared to tell anyone.

Alas, the economy thread went the way of It's great to be a federal worker thread.

I shall not mention it again since that might get the Pro Cycling thread locked.

gap is 3:53

they'll get reeled in on Capressa

then Pogi will attack on Poggio di San Remo

massive descent for anyone left (Tadej is not the best descender) and then we see who has anything left for the sprint

love this Monument, the length and parcour make it possible for so many different types of riders to podium

2:37 - guess they'll be getting swallowed up before Capressa

makes sense

edit

also means the last 180 breakaway points will go to contenders and rouliers
