Key & Peele need to do a UCI WT skit eh

Not on the startlist this week - more of a Classics rider - but whenever possible I try to get Taco van der Hoorn

Pairing Toms Skujiņš with either Dylan Teuns or Edward Theuns is another that is hard to resist

i know these words but, together, none make sense.
It’s similar to my handicapping horse racing. Names are importanter

:construction:

Having fun

Looks like Velogames just updated the riders again, adding the last 15 since I left work

Startlist at PCS and the contest both have 175 riders - only two teams haven't finalized their squads

Alpecin - Deceuninck (4 riders) and EF Education - EasyPost (3 in, 5 TBD) still haven't announced their lineup, but the other 21 teams are complete

Think INEOS Grenadiers are short 1 rider as well.

Soudal Quick-Step has 9 riders

I know goal #1 is protect Remco but I don’t think that’s allowed

INEOS announced a new partner yesterday (AH-dee-dawz)

Team Visma Lease a Bike announced a new sponsor today, some small town sneaker company in Beaverton, OR

Come on UCI - you're never gonna reach F1 status if you keep chasing rinky dink shoe companies

Wild story I only learned about because of r/peloton:

Why 2025 Italian National Championships was pure ciclismo

Yesterday, Filippo Conca and the Swatt Club won the 2025 Italian National Road Championship. I'd like to provide some context for non-Italian redditors who may not be familiar with Conca or his team:

  • Filippo Conca is 26 years old and raced professionally between 2021 and 2024 with Lotto and the Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team- both UCI ProTeams. At the end of his contract with Q36.5 last year, he couldn’t find a spot on another ProTeam and decided to continue racing with the Swatt Club.
  • Swatt Club originated in 2017 as a blog called Solowattaggio, covering cycling, skiing, triathlon, and other outdoor sports. From this media project, an amateur cycling team was born to allow members to compete in gran fondo events. In recent years, the movement has grown significantly, thanks in part to consistent social media presence and the sale of stylish, design-focused cycling apparel.
  • The team’s first steps toward professionalism came in 2024, when Asbjørn Hellemose - another rider left without a pro contract after his stint with Lidl-Trek - raced several events (mainly gravel) supported by Swatt Club. In 2025, Hellemose successfully returned to the WorldTour by signing with Team Jayco AlUla.
  • In 2025, the Swatt Club officially launched a club-level team, consisting of multiple athletes competing in UCI .2 races, both on the road and in gravel disciplines.
  • Five athletes raced yesterday’s national championship for Swatt Club: Filippo Conca, Mattia Gaffuri, Lorenzo Ginestra, Francesco Carollo, and Nicolò Petitti. The entire team performed impressively, with Gaffuri finishing fifth and four riders placing in the top 25.
  • You may have already heard of Mattia Gaffuri - he was a Zwift Academy finalist for the past two years. He's also active on social media and co-hosts a popular Italian podcast called Ciclismo KOMpetente (roughly translated as Cycling with KOMpetence) alongside Luca Vergallito, who won the 2023 Zwift Academy and now rides for Alpecin-Deceuninck's WorldTour team. Both are graduates in Sports Science, and their podcast discusses athletic training, scientific literature, and features interviews with athletes across different sports. Gaffuri also works as a coach and trainer, supporting several Swatt Club athletes and others.
  • Acting as sports director for the Swatt Club during yesterday’s race was Giorgio Brambilla, a former professional cyclist and now one of the two hosts of GCN’s Italian-language channel.
  • The team competed in an all-white skinsuit called “papale” (a reference to the Pope’s attire), with no visible sponsors. While they do have some support - such as from Giant, Cadex, and Maurten- these names are absent from the kit. They raced on bikes equipped with Ultegra groupsets, and Conca reportedly used a fork from another rider’s bike - Namibian cyclist Alex Miller - as it was painted in the colors of the Namibian flag.
  • Over time, Swatt Club has built a large following in Italy, with many supporters enthusiastically backing their initiatives. The community has even contributed to the spread of inside jokes and unique terminology within Italian cycling culture.
  • The Swatt Club project is often polarizing, particularly within more traditional or conservative corners of the italian cycling community, where it challenges an outdated, almost prehistoric narrative of the sport.

Wout turns up sick and pulls out of Belgian championships. Hopefully recovers for the tour.

Apparently there's sick, and then there's I don't want to race the Belgian championship because I'm riding the Tour next week "sick". The Belgians force everyone to race the championship unless you have a good reason.

CampinArts should always be bolded.

The composition of UAE is perfect for the mountain stages
  • Almeida might be the 3rd best climber in the Tour (ahead of Remco)
  • Polit and Soler will do most of the pulling to control the tempo
  • Sivakov will pull on the longer climbs
  • Narváez and Wellens to do explosive short burst 2-minute leadout to crack everyone else and launch Pogi on shorter climbs
The only thing they lack is horsepower in the flats. Almeida and Adam Yates have their ambitions but everyone knows why they are there - to support the best GC rider of this generation. Incredibly stacked.

Last year the floor for UAE riders assist points was around 370

Not sure we'll see Pogi win 6 stages again, though

Won Stage last year & still a good time trial so guess you could add him for the one flat TT stage if you want the 3rd best time trialer from TVLaB

Current team has 4 ten pointers. I don’t like 2 of them. 😂

Sounds about right - think there are 8 ten pointers & I wouldn’t take 4 of them

Six pointers are basically day 3 running backs

Bruh have you seen his tape, this guy is amazing!! I have…did you notice he was doing it against the future gym teachers of America??

TdF 6 credit riders by year:

  • 2024 - 104 / >600 pts - 3 / >400 points - 11

6 credit riders >400 points - 10.99%

2025 TdF watch score

Brief description of each stage + watchability score in a calendar format
If you like classics, my guess is the first week produces a fairly unforgettable stage at some point. A bunch of the stages set up for the real strong guys to put on a show especially if Alpecin decide the parcours set up for MvdP to go for green instead of Phillipsen.

I know @BassNBrew was sort of jesting about the Tadej 7 stage thing, but between the classic stages and the way Visma is going to have to ride in the mountains (assuming he doesn't crack), it's entirely possible. Heck all things being equal and if they really rode it, he's probably second favorite in the Paris stage. His peloton positioning and general tactical awareness are both reasons all these GC guys should be at least riding some of the classics. You know he'll be there if stages 2,4,6, or 7 just explode and he'll be on MdvP's wheel, the best you can say for Jonas is Van Aert will try to keep him in the right position. The other thing is if MvdP and Tadej ride off in one of these stages, Tadej has every incentive to ride with MdvP and give the stage to MdvP unlike some of the regular classics. It's possible (if they are in great form) those two win half the stages this year.

I actually think Tadej has a chance to capture points + GC, like he already did in 2020 (+ Youth.) The fastest sprinters often can’t climb, and this TdF has a lot of punchy stages 1-9.

Merckx is the only guy to capture Yellow, Green & Polka Dot (1969) in the same year.

This is looney tunes.

Yet again, I've proven (with ample evidence) to be a moron when it comes to these things.

I think Tadej has 17 TdF stage wins since 2020.

MvdP has 2 GT stage wins (1 TdF) in his career.

Which is not meant to disparage the Dutchman. I’ve never quite understood why his lack of GT focus is a pejorative. Does anyone ever say Pogi is incomplete as a rider because he hasn’t won on gravel or doesn’t ride cyclocross? Of course not.

His place is history and his placement as one of the best cyclist of this generation is secure. 8 Monuments, the only rider in cycling history to be Men's World Champion in three different cycling disciplines, been part of some of the greatest rivalries in the past decade.

All that said, Week 1 does look pretty juicy for Mathieu.
