Official Alshon Jeffery - The Bandwagon (1 Viewer)

You almost have to ignore matchups with these stupid WRs. Last week, the Saints were a terrible matchup on paper. Their pass D was awesome. So of course, Alshon explodes. Tonight, the matchup couldn't have been any sweeter, and he lays a turd. Pick your two or three best WRs and start them every week. It's worth it just to not second-guess yourself constantly.
Off topic here but I've kinda noticed throughout the years that often times teams 2nd-3rd Wr's tend to have decent games against better defenses. They will shut down the #1 forcing teams to go to their #2's and 3's.

This was my exact reason for making sure I played T.Y. vs Seattle last week in the league I have him as well as a couple fanduel line ups and it paid off.

Did people really expect him to be a WR1/2 every week?
Maybe not right at this moment. But there's absolutely no reason that he can't and won't develop into one in the near future. People (myself included) were just playing the hot hand.

If we learned one thing last night. You don't bet against Marshall during Mental Health Awareness week, and you lower expectations for the guy playing opposite hiim.

The Bears only throw the ball to 4 guys. Every week, one of Marshall, Jeffrey or Bennet will probably be below expectations based on what the defense gives them. Jeffrey's floor is probably what you saw today: 5 targets.

Alshon owners, please come back from the ledge. He was open on two passes that would have been TD's but missed by inches. Had another batted down at the line of scrimmage, and tonight Cutler was trying to keep Marshall happy.

guys hes a WR3. I think expectations were a bit too high for him. Be happy you got a potential stud (every once in awhile) late in your draft.

Guys, there's a simple expectation for his numbers last night. I started him in both leagues I owned him - just like I did weeks 1, 2 and 3. Of course I sat him weeks 4 and 5.

So if you want to know how he'll do just ask me if I'm starting him.

While I wish the numbers were there yesterday, I'm ecstatic about how quickly Alshon has developed into a legitimate starter this year. The targets are there. Deep targets. In key situations. The long runs are a good indicator in how they want the ball in his hands too, I think. Future is really bright for him, and I still think he should be starting in any league with 3 WR slots, and will likely be a startable in 2 WR slots as the season goes on.

I call it chasing points

You take each game as it comes. He had a great matchup last night, they just went to different guys. Unless you had 3 top 10 WRs to go with ahead of him, he was pretty much a must start last night.

I need you to start him weekly as I own Marshall. Thanks for the help.

:D

We'll see what the matchups hold, but he's probably my most likely WR3 candidate going forward.

Alshon Jeffery vying with Marshall as Bears' top WRBy Chris Wesseling

The Chicago Bears relied on Brandon Marshall so much last season that he was targeted on roughly 40 percent of his quarterback's passes. No NFL wide receiver came within seven percentage points of Marshall's figure.

Through seven games this season, Marshall is not even leading his team in receiving yards. Second-year breakout star Alshon Jeffery actually is tied with Eric Decker of the Denver Broncos for the most receiving yards in the league over the past five weeks. Jeffery has 561 receiving yards on the season compared with 540 for Marshall.

Jeffery's emergence as one of the NFL's premier downfield threats led Gregg Rosenthal to ask NFL Films senior producer Greg Cosell if Jeffery might be every bit as good as Marshall.

Cosell told the "Around The League Podcast" that "ability-wise" it's not crazy to believe Jeffery is on Marshall's level, but he has to prove it over time.

"I happen to know some people down at South Carolina, and I remember talking to their offensive staff," Cosell added. "They told me that if he could keep his weight down, he would have a chance to be a special receiver. ... I think Jeffery is a very talented kid."

Jeffery has been a complete receiver this season, moving the chains and excelling as a vertical threat. One unexpected contribution is his playmaking ability on end-arounds, as shown in the highlight package to the right. Thanks in part to those 88 yards on six rushing attempts, Jeffery leads all NFL receivers in yards from scrimmage.

It sounded like hyperbole when Marshall declared earlier this month that Jeffery has the potential to become the greatest receiver in Bears history. Now it doesn't seem so far-fetched.

Aside from Julio/Roddy, is their a better 1-2 punch in the league than Alshon/BMarsh?
I'd still take the Three New Amigos in Denver... and you could argue any two of them that include J Thomas would be right up there, if not the best. Personally, I think J Thomas and Welker if you have to go down to two, because of their range of skills.

Julio/Roddy would perhaps be behind both right now, because we really don't know how great Roddy will be when he finally comes back... and obviously Julio's out.

Rotoworld:

Alshon Jeffery caught nine passes for 114 yards in Week 10 against the Lions.
Jeffery was targeted a game-high 18 times, six more looks than Brandon Marshall saw from Jay Cutler and Josh McCown. Jeffery could have had a bigger day, but he was stripped of a 14-yard touchdown when officials deemed he bobbled the ball out of bounds. It was Jeffery's fourth 100-yard game of the season, with two of them coming against Detroit. He's a legitimate WR2. The Bears and Jeffery take on the Ravens next weekend.

I'm becoming more and more of a fan of his. I have an offer from the Jeffery owner, where he wants DeMarco Murray from me and will send Jeffery and Joique Bell. I keep wanting to pull the trigger, but something prevents me. After today's game though, I think I'm convinced.

I thought it was really interesting that Alshon was getting most of the double teams, and Marshall was single covered (the commentators even mentioned this). If this guy is considered to be a bigger threat than Marshall, that tells you something. Sky may be the limit.

This guy is way better than I thought he would be. He's going to be a stud. Dropped a couple tds today, though.

I got dogged by Bloom on the audible for making him the 2nd WR off the board after Blackmon in my dynasty league. Called him "nothing more than a jump ball specialist." I don't even need him to play this year. Wouldn't be surprised to hear those two talked up as the best receiver tandem outside of ATL heading into 2013.
I think Bloom is going to regret that comment.
Oof.

yeah working out with marshall really changed him. luckily i got him a lot of dynasty startups this summer once i realized the error of my ways

I agree. He's made that crucial jump from like around top 40 to top 20 now. The next jump appears inevitable. May or may not happen though anytime soon though. Brandon Marshall is the elephant in the room to any Alshon discussion, obviously. Because of the pure ability of Marshall (meaning hall of fame level ability) we could see a bit of a delay before Alshon can meet his ceiling.

The Bears offense is mighty scary if you ask me. Heck without Cutler they strung together and 18 play drive to ice Green Bay last weekend. I think they could be what everyone thought the Falcons were going to be. Cutler has a cannon and he's getting some time now.

Thoughts on Alshon ROS? It seems to me Cutler tends to lean on either Marshall or Jeffery (depending on who the D tries to take away?), while McCown throws at Marshall a ton regardless.

Marshall's presence helps more than it hurts. Jeffery will never draw the opposing team's best corner.
Jeffery was the one who was double teamed last week, not Marshall. I found that really interesting.
Is that right? Hmmm.
Yup, even the color commentary guy on the broadcast noted it.

I just traded for Jeffery yesterday, and this thread helped in my thoughts about it. My hope is that he can be a top 15 PPR WR for the rest of the year.

Week 13 @ Vikings

Week 14 Cowboys

Week 15 @ Browns

Week 16 @ Eagles

Schedule looks favorable.

Got lucky, someone offered me Jeffrey for my Gates before last weeks game. It will be nice rolling him, Dez, and CJ out as starters the rest of the way.

The fact that he proving he isn't QB dependant is great. I haven't watched the Bears, just boxscore scouting.

Since week 4

14.1 FF PPG (19.8 PPR) on 5.7 rec. for 111.4 total yards and 0.50 TD = Alshon Jeffery (10.5 targets)

14.6 FF PPG (21.3 PPR) on 6.7 rec. for 86.2 total yards and 1.00 TD = Brandon Marshall (10.8 targets)

These guys are looking like Roddy/Julio lite
