** OFFICIAL ** Cleveland Guardians thread - spring training (2 Viewers)

5-5 on the road trip including losses in 4 straight. Fielding/defense remains terrible.

The Angels and Jered Weaver coming to town for four games followed with three against Detroit before going out west for 8 games. need to win at least 4 on the homestand and should with the best home record in baseball. And amazingly the worst home attendance in baseball, and it's not even close. Damn.

I was  at Hamilton and Rosey talking about the "distractions" at Arizona State and how a 2.5 GPA there was A work.

Hammy's call of Swisher's grand slam today.

Way to take the DET series! Only 5.5 games back now, and we have some good offense/pitching going so far. I'm really liking Kluber and Bauer moving forward.

Kluber and Bauer looking like rotation mainstays for the next several years

They look so so bad at times and just about when I'm going to write them off, they start winning. Have done that again and again this season. Still don't think they have what it will take to win the AL if they even make the playoffs. And the minor leagues are pretty bare of talent compared to other teams. They have no power bats down there either.

I know the feeling. I get sucked back in with the excitement, and then let down by some poor play. They really need another SP to come in and help. House and Tomlin aren't bad, but they don't look aggressive enough to go for the when. They put the ball in play and rely on the defense to get the outs. NTTAWWT, but I'd like to see some pitching dominance every now and again. I do like Allen in the closer role. The bats need to wake up if they want a chance to even be in the discussion for the playoffs. Dickerson looked good the other night. I'd also like to see them trade Cabrera so Lindor can come up and play. The change may be the shot in the arm the team needs right now to keep it moving forward.

If they are so concerned about bringing up Lindor, why can't we live with Aviles for the next 5-6 weeks, let Lindor finish up in the minors (just called up to AAA), and bring him up in Sept? If we're still in it, he could be a nice jolt. No pressure. If he starts out slow hitting, he's a pinch runner/defensive sub. Is this stupid or just too easy?

I'm just tired of Asdrubal...who probably brings very little in trade back anyways. Maybe that's why it's not worth it. Would he not be appealing at all to a number of playoff teams in the race? Hell, even Detroit.

I'm with you. I see Lindor is starting in AAA Cbus tonight. Aviles didn't do bad at SS last night when Cabrera "limped" off the field with his "injury". I say bring up Lindor in August - giving him a few games at AAA to keep his momentum going. Him and Aviles can split time and bring him along as needed. Trade Cabrera for whatever we can get and start seeing what we have in the next generation.

Unreal. Went to bed at 10pm last night thinking "what a great pitcher's duel!" Even talked to my son about that one game that went 18-19 innings. Woke up to find out this one went 14 innings and it was mainly due to a bone-headed play by Raburn. Ugh!

Is there a market for an erratic SS who refuses to look at more than 1 pitch?

Indians baseball insider likes the trade:

In summation the Indians got a top 10 prospect from one of the most respected minor league systems in the majors. Ramsey can play all three outfield spots and shows a good arm and solid wheels. His power is emerging now that he is healthy and while not plus it is average to above average. His only negative trait as a player is a concerning strikeout rate.

If you compare him to fellow 2012 draft pick Naquin, I think it’s clear he is the superior prospect. He will hit more home runs this year than Naquin has hit in the last three seasons. Then add in the better eye at the plate and athleticism and I think it’s clear. I don’t mean to slam Naquin who is clearly a top 10 prospect as well, but Ramsey just has a stronger mix of tools.

I think why Ramsey was a targeted piece by the Indians was they knew he was blocked and hence more easily acquirable. Even more important is the fact Ramsey is a near major’s player who should be ready to help next year. The Indians traded Masty for someone who can help soon, which is a nice return for a pitcher who had been incredibly ineffective this season and might be pitching hurt. Plus they saved roughly $3.5 million which could and should be used to help the team.

I just went through the drive-thru at my local McDonalds and had this exchange with employee:

Me: * wearing Indians jersey with Chief Wahoo on left sleeve which is hanging out drivers window *

Her: Is that Arkansas?

Me:

Her: Is that the university of Arkansas?

Me: No, it's a Cleveland Indians jersey

Her: Oh my gosh! * hands to face in embarrassment *

Nice job today Salazar!!!

Gave up 6 runs in the 5th inning.
Spoiler tags just in case you're going to watch it on STO replay later.

Kluber

Carrasco

Bauer

Salazar

Not sure if all of them will work out but Kluber seems like a #1 and any of those other guys could be great. I thought I loved Salazar but I think Carrasco might be the best of the rest. Not a Bauer fan just yet.

Outside of Brantley though, the hitting is pretty bad.
