On a serious note - as someone who's negotiated hundreds of deals for consulting/contracted support, let me tell you.
It's a lot harder to find someone with a poli sci, comm, art, etc degree/experience to justify their eligibility. I recently had a guy with a degree in business that worked at Olive Garden as a manager since college and built is degree/resume into a entry level Business Analyst job.
If that same guy had a poli sci or other goofy arts degree, it's a lot harder to negotiate into a deal.
Just going off of my experience/industry GB.

I get it especially in today's world. Right out of college, I didn't walk into any sweet Booz-Allen jobs. The degree was prep for Law school before I changed my mind. That said, I took an entry level job and let my talent shine and built it into a fine career. My point was that you could say the same thing about any Bachelor of Arts and that I'd look more favorably on a Political Science Major than Communications, Anthropology, English Lit, etc.

I hold no degree. I learned a work ethic from an early age and have consistently outshined my peers, while being quiet, patient and respectful. I'll never live in a mansion but I'm just about at 6 figures now and my boss is actively working to develop me and get me bumped up to the next level of management. I've worked with scores of entitled and clueless idiots who thought their degree guaranteed a career path. Most were laid off when we sent hundreds of jobs to eastern Europe, keeping me around to ensure everything didn't go sideways during the transition. Amazing how far dependability goes, and just generally not being a headache that the boss has to babysit.

To be fair, I majored in Political Science because I wanted to go to law school. Three semesters in to college I was done thinking about law school and was majoring in political science because I could make a 3.0 without opening a book. In hindsight, I wish I had worked a little harder and gone to law school.There are a lot of us with poli sci degrees. No, it doesn't always work out great, really. Lots of law school grads earning no more than what they could have with a bachelor's degree. It works out great if you work your ### off and graduate towards the top of your class. Why accounting? If you have already been doing the pharmacy thing why not pharmacist? High demand and pretty darn good pay from day one. I know some CVS guys making nearly 6 figures.

For that pay, you can just pick whatever retail job has the hottest chicks. Screw promotions. How much more will you really make? And you still have to wear the stupid blue smock. Seriously, just case your local drugstores, supermarkets etc and pick the one with the best looking talent.
Or, maybe wait tables? Solid tip money to be made if you can work your way up to the nicer restaurants in your town. But you've got to hustle, be presentable and not be a ####### whiner.

Here's the thing, whatever company you're working for I can guarantee they're always looking to bring in better talent. They don't really care about how good of a person you are or how much experience you have. If they can bring in someone better than you they will. You'll either be let go or kept at an entree level position.
Hiring managers are always scanning the job market and you should be doing the same. There's no reason not to send out a few resumes a month. Keep yourself on the job market. As long as you're not an idiot and talking about looking for something else at your current job, you've got nothing to lose. I try to get myself a few interviews a year because, why not?

Why the hell would you WANT the shift lead position? You may think that it's easier than the job you do but it's not. You might get the image of the Shift Leader sitting in the office and doing nothing but you're overlooking the responsibility that you are taking on and the amount of blame that will receive. You get paid maybe $1 or $2 more an hour but you are in charge of the store while you are there. You have to deal with all the customer complaints. You are responsible for getting a task list done that can't humanly be accomplished but will be blamed when it isn't done. And you have no real power at all.
On the question of why you weren't given the job, my understanding is that in order to be promoted to Shift Lead, you have to have a performance evaluation and have a high enough score. Since you've only been there 3 months, you probably haven't had a yearly performance evaluation and are not eligible to be promoted. Also you probably don't know the cl
