This.for me, it's all about his potential (talent + opportunity). The opportunity is not there YET with injury and Theo still atop the depth chart, so I'm in a wait and see approach. I will stash him on my bench and see if the lottery hits in a couple of weeks...![]()
I remember owning David Johnson for a couple weeks last year before he blew up, not saying apples to apples but patience would have served me well in that case.for me, it's all about his potential (talent + opportunity). At this point last year, DJ had multiple TDs. He just wasn't see the snap count you'd want because of vets in front of him.I remember owning David Johnson for a couple weeks last year before he blew up, not saying apples to apples but patience would have served me well in that case.
Fair enough, he had a TD in week one and a chance in Week 3, different offenses provide different opportunities. At this point last year, DJ had multiple TDs. He just wasn't see the snap count you'd want because of vets in front of him.
It's the opposite with DW. He's seeing his opportunity but there is no sign of having a nose for the end zone like DJ.
I can agree with that. I was one of those tacos who dropped DJ last year out of frustration but was lucky enough to be able to pick him up later in the year. I won't make that mistake again. I have DW and Jordan Howard and I'm holding both for the foreseeable future. I like both more than Dixon who will likely be saddled with a RBBC with West.Fair enough, he had a TD in week one and a chance in Week 3, different offenses provide different opportunities.
I was more preaching patience with DW and DJ is the first example that came to mind for me even though they each had/have their own unique roadblocks.
This is premature to say. He's touched the ball 3 times in the red zone (all from the 1) and scored once.At this point last year, DJ had multiple TDs. He just wasn't see the snap count you'd want because of vets in front of him.

Like I said, he's seeing his opportunities. But to compare him to DJ is premature as hell because DJ turned nothing into something. Conversely, DW is turning something into nothing so far. This is premature to say. He's touched the ball 3 times in the red zone (all from the 1) and scored once.
What is the average conversion rate from the 1? 33% doesn't seem too far off.Like I said, he's seeing his opportunities. But to compare him to DJ is premature as hell because DJ turned nothing into something. Conversely, DW is turning something into nothing so far.
Disagree. Howard could have sucked or gotten injured, and Washington could have blown up. And the odds on any of those outcomes weren't particularly dissimilar for either player. You say that like Dwayne Washington success was equally probable to Howard's success (it wasn't).

I won't speak for the guy who said that, but I certainly didn't read it like anyone was comparing DJ to DW, at all. He was using the situation last year where he held DJ as an example where it paid off to be patient. That was it. It's probably a bad example anyways because DJ had a lot of yards and 3 TD's in the first 4 games so there wasn't much doubt he'd hold him until he became the starter. I don't think he was implying Washington is or will be anything like David Johnson.Exactly. Yes, it's good that he's seeing RZ opps but he's yet to show us why he should be compared to DJ. If anyone, Jordan Howard looks like this year's DJ. Creating something out of nothing.
Problem is riddick is in detroit to steal alot of touches. Right now the cupboard is bare in chicago besides howard. And the bears schedule is rb friendly for a few weeksDisagree. Howard could have sucked or gotten injured, and Washington could have blown up. And the odds on any of those outcomes weren't particularly dissimilar for either player.
Disagree about Zenner, he's their "In Case of Emergency Break Glass" guy. Nothing that has happened on the field this season suggests that he is a threat to Washington's role (with the obvious caveat of health). They face PHI next week who is coming off a bye so will be well versed in DET's Offense and who shut down PIT D (look what they did to KC, sure w/Bell back, but then they were not suffering in the scoring department in the two games prior to the PHI game even without Bell) the prior week. Even if he plays, do you really think splitting time with Zenner(a better short yardage back who actually put out better film last week)/Riddick (entrenched as the pass catching back/starter) is going to amount to much? He's a drop in short benches, especially as many good teams are on bye this week. I have to cover Brees's and Ware's bye so dropping him for a streaming QB option this week. Most likely he will put up a dud next week and if you are really high on him you can pick him back up again after week5.
In a keeper/dynasty he's still a stash.
That's pretty much exactly what I said tho...It's probably a bad example anyways because DJ had a lot of yards and 3 TD's in the first 4 games so there wasn't much doubt he'd hold him until he became the starter.
Washington shares touches with Riddick in an offense that moves the ball and scores points.Problem is riddick is in detroit to steal alot of touches. Right now the cupboard is bare in chicago besides howard. And the bears schedule is rb friendly for a few weeks

Saw this coming after watching film. Just heard Caldwell state he wants to see more carries from Zenner ... sooooDisagree about Zenner, he's their "In Case of Emergency Break Glass" guy. However I agree that Washington is a drop in certain situations like you mention. Washington hasn't done enough with his limited opportunities to make him a must hold. He's a luxury hold.
Sooooooo...?Saw this coming after watching film. Just heard Caldwell state he wants to see more carries from Zenner ... soooo
Do the math. Window of opportunity just got smaller. Hey 7th round guys and even undrafted guys can breakout. We have seen Arian Fosters of the world take the league by storm. But they have shorter leashes than 1st round guys like Zeke. They need to make immediate impact when on the field and continue to produce so the coach cannot justify taking him off the field. All I keep hearing is, "wait till next week." While I saw potential a few weeks back I dropped him for a bye week QB filler this week. May revisit if he makes noise later on down the line but a 3 way split when guys like Howard are breaking out with bell cow carries going for the same price (free), its time to move on. Abdullah could be back in the mix 5-6 weeks down the line as well.Sooooooo...?
Lol Howard was free in your league?Do the math. Window of opportunity just got smaller. Hey 7th round guys and even undrafted guys can breakout. Is this where you say your league is better than mine? Go ahead and be that guy. Yes, I picked up Howard in my league week 2 as a free agent after the guy that dropped him after the first week when Langford got 96% of the carries. Are you going to keep stalking my every post in multiple threads. Let it go.Lol Howard was free in your league?
I am not, and have not been, beating the drum for Washington by any means (go ahead look) but the fact that Caldwell said he wants Zenner to get more touches, while the #2 RB on the team is nursing an ankle/foot injury isn't something that should be viewed as a huge indicator or anything other than Caldwell being pragmatic.Do the math. Don't want to look up old posts but I'll take your word on it. Well I would agree with this if he Washington wasn't in on the last play last week and they said he could probably play next week. If it was a serious injury he probably would not have been out there later on in the game. Zenner did well with his limited carries last week.I am not, and have not been, beating the drum for Washington by any means (go ahead look) but the fact that Caldwell said he wants Zenner to get more touches, while the #2 RB on the team is nursing an ankle/foot injury isn't something that should be viewed as a huge indicator or anything other than Caldwell being pragmatic.
Honestly if you flip the script and it was ZZ who got the goal line TD in week 1, and Washington's touches in general, then I am sure everyone would be all over him and dismissing the notion that Washington could supplant him. Point being is that I think they are pretty interchangeable and the principal value to ZZ and Washington is the fact that they have the opportunity to seize the #2 RB job (and an very outside chance at the #1 RB job) in Detroit.
I am no longer an owner as of this week, but I have nothing against him. That doesn't mean I can't splash some cold water on the hype. I did bring to light that Jordan Howard was available at roughly the same time and commented on some people actually passing on JH for Washington as a big mistake at the time the decisions were posted (to help lurkers). I was just emphasizing that JH was more of a no brainer pickup after Langford went down and should be swapped. This sprung into a large debate where some even said I was a Riddick owner, and some even followed me around to other threads to piss on my posts. No biggie. . It's too bad we cant just debate the facts without name calling and personal attacks by the majority groupthink against the minority points that might go against the popular outlook. Sometimes the popular outlook is right, but I found some flaws and pointed them out in this situation. Both ceiling and floor were higher with Jordan based on opp/talent. Also the projections were way too inflated for Washington last week and the prior week. I pointed out that he had a very low floor as well (which wasn't being posted).ETA: BTW you do come across in here as if you have some kind of bone to pick with Washington and his owners (even though you say you are one).
Lol Howard was free in your league?
You're doing a bang-up job so far!No one cares about your life story. Can we keep this thread about Washington please?
I'm trying to decide between Drew Stanton (super-flex league I have Bortles on the bye, Cam with a concussion and D.Anderson in case Cam can't go) and Michael Thomas (WR-NO).Staying on the topic of Washington. Curious as to what others are going to do with him. I am going to try to drop him for Dixon and possibly Duke in tonight's Waiver process. Washington may have potential but it seems like it is weeks away again at best due to the injury and continued use of Riddick. I probably have time to drop him and take a chance on someone else for at least a week or two as he heals.
Would you drop him for Ajayi? I know Foster is practicing again, but so what. Gase sounds like he wants to simplify the backfield.I'm holding for the moment but I would drop him for Dixon in a heartbeat if available.
same plan for me, cutting, going for Dixon or west. I really wanted Dixon last week when he would have been free but didn't have room, totally regretting picking up Washington and could totally see a month from now me wishing I wouldn't have dropped him.Staying on the topic of Washington. Shallow rosters, bye weeks, injuries. It's easy to understand why people are dropping an albeit-extremely talented but injured RB who hasn't been given many touches.btemp said:I'm curious why so many are jumping off of Dwayne Washington. I can understand for players with a bigger opportunity (eg. Howard, Dixon). But otherwise, he looked like the Lions best back and showed ability both catching and receiving. He also was the goal line back. As long as its not a serious injury he'll still have a real chance to grab a stranglehold on this job.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but it seems quick to drop Washington because he had a minor injury in his first game.
He's touched the ball 20 times in 4 games (4.2 ypc, 2.5 ypr). He doesn't look like anyone's best anything yet.btemp said:I'm curious why so many are jumping off of Dwayne Washington. But he was sitting behind Abdullah and Riddick. Abdullah is injured week 2 and the Lions gave the ball to Riddick in week 3. Riddick was outperformed by Washington so he leads the backfield in Week 4 before injuring his ankle in the 2nd quarter. He's touched the ball 20 times in 4 games (4.2 ypc, 2.5 ypr). He doesn't look like anyone's best anything yet.
Now he has ankle/foot sprains and the door is open for a third RB to siphon opportunities further muddying the situation.
The only thing we have is the hope that he may, possibly carve out a larger role but we don't have anything to base that on other than Riddick looking like a poor runner and our hope that the Lions will turn to the rookie. And there was only a slim chance before he got hurt.
