What's the learning curve for BF2 from a MW player?Played a few mins in the demo online and had no idea what i was doing.
I've never played MW but I have some FPS experience from spending several months with KZ2.The first time I played the BF2 demo, I got lit up to the tune of 2-17. It took a few hours before I learned the mechanics, the layout of the map, ways to get from one spot to another, what locations are important and which ones aren't, etc. Now I'm consistently finishing in the top third of my team despite the fact that I'm not really very good at shooters; knowing what's going on and what you can do to be helpful seems to matter more than whether you can headshot a guy with your AR from 200 yards away. I'm assuming every map will have a similar learning curve, but at least the game mechanics carry over.

not sure how to get into a vehicle on the 360. My guess is that its probably X. as for the kill cam, it isnt really a kill cam. it just shows where your killer is at that exact moment(doesnt show him taking the shot that put you down). i wish they would just ditch it entirely. Its such a crutch, especially in a game like this.
MW2 had the kill cam, too, though. Snipers could get by this a little by staying zoomed in, but IMO the MW2 killcam was worse. :unsure:I still don't like it either way about it.

You playing on the PC?

Yeah I didn't get it, if they wanted a kill cam show the kill, showing the location and the guy running around is pointless and a detriment to the game

the biggest part of the learning curve is learning how to burst fire. Mw2 supporters claim the game has recoil, but it really doesnt. You can hold down the fire button for an entire clip with an AR and lose very little accuracy. Try that in Bc2 and you wont hit a thing.

the pace is a lot slower, which i like a lot more.

IMO, the only thing MW2 has over Bc2 is weapons variety and customization options. I like Bc2 for everything else. you feel like you're a human being fighting on a battlefield. (as opposed to feeling like you're on rails fighting in a box)

No, the PS3. Port Valdez is the only map I've seen.

Gotcha. BC2. I saw BF2 and thought we had missed you in our many nights of BF2 PC gaming.

I might be down for some later. Anyone game for any old school BF2 before it gets lost for good?
Bump? Anyone for BF2?
I don't have it installed anymore (new OS and SSD). I'll be playing the beta in a little while though.
Harsh. I will keep BF2 installed for years for LAN parties, anyway. Game had almost 6 years of legs to it. :lmao:

Yah, trying to decide if I reinstall BF2 right now - just redid my OS as my RC of Win7 was set to expire March 1 ... and yah, I've had the retail version for a couple of months now, just haven't wanted to mess with it. Anyways, reinstalling Steam right now, but probably won't have BF:BC2 downloaded until tomorrow I'm guessing. I did figure out how to get my Steam games on my raid array rather than in my Program files - just install Steam on the other drive, duh.

Anyone know of any way to have Steam install a game on a certain drive? I would love to have BC2 on my SSD, but no way I have enough room for all my games on it. I am keeping my Steam directory on my 1 TB fast HDD.

I think all Steam games have to go in the same location. I'm pretty much keeping just my OS, Office, AV, and browser on the SSD, and the games are going on the fast 1 TB HDD.I'm in vent if anyone wants to play.

Steam keeps all of it's games in a subdirectory of the directory you install it in. According to the FAQ I read, they must reside there. So unless you go getting all :goodposting: fancy and do some symbolic linking or something like that, you can't have just 1 game on a different drive.added: NTFS Symbolic Links (not to be confused with NSFW links...)

added2 : I see you already found some info on Symbolic linking while I was looking it up :bag:

Count them, not 1 ... or 2...no...4 kills by DEFIB my last round tonight - I admit, after 2 I was really trying to get to 4 to see if there was a pin for it, since 4 is the magic number for explosives and a few other things I think. Ah well...

28 deaths

shoddy K-D ratio

4 Defib kills ... priceless

:lmao:

(I really should try and figure out how to take screenshots - prtscn doesn't work for me (all white where game is when I paste it in).)

small patch today. probably just fixed connectivity issues.

There was a post yesterday confirming that they are bumping all bullet damage (other than snipers) by 25%. That MIGHT be overdoing it, but we'll see.

Cant believe release is less than a week away. Tempted to take a half day from work, but probably wont.

Trying to decide between a 5850 vs 2 5770's in SLI. If Tigerdirect would be back online, then I could see what costs less after BCB. Never heard of a huge site like TD going down, but there you go.

the patch yesterday actually had a few balance tweaks. Some guns were tuned up/down. Not a big deal since the beta closes tomorrow.

Gonna stick with my video card until Nvidia drops their new line and drives down the prices of the 5850. I'll make my decision then. This game looks great even with medium graphics and i'm sure the retail release will be better optimized.

Tuesday at work is gonna be ROUGH.

The problem is I don't believe that ATI goes down. They just released the 5830 at $230, and so the 5850 really cannot come down. Besides, you can get a single 5850 for $250 right now at TD after BCB, which is what I am trying to do. I could get dual 5770's for $286, which is pretty close to 1 5850, so I will go that route if I can. Tiger, come back online now, damn you!

what is BCB? the cheapest i'm seing the 5850's at newegg is like $300
Bing Cash BackMarch 26th was announced today as NVidia's 470/480 release date. The problem with all this is that these cards are supposed to be mid to low end cards. It won't budge the upper edge of GPU pricing. :moneybag:ETA Well it looks like I was mistaken. The 470/480 are supposed to compete with the 5850/5870, but given NVidia's ### kicking of late, I don't see them trying to beat ATI in price, but match.

Gotta say....might have to give this a try. While fun, MW2 isn't nearly what I thought....or people made out to be.
what did you think it would be? (not being snarky, just curious)I played it, but i took it for what it was (and knew it would be).....an arcade shooter with very shallow game play augmented by lots of customization (good thing) and flashy kill streaks (bad thing). I knew that i would never put in my xbox again once i got my hands on Bc2 on the PC.

I never played MW1....and I played very little of World at War. I was a big Gears of War fan and MW advocates told me that MW was a very realistic, accurate description of real fighting......something it isn't.

The Battlefield series is much more realistic than CoD, there is no denying that. From speed to recoil and such. Give it a try on PC - we have a good group going.

Just traded in MWII (they are giving and extra 50% at Gamestop for any trades) and pre-ordered BCBFII. Really looking forward to this one.

thats because most MW advocates are strictly console players. They just dont know any better. In their mind, that game is realistic. Not saying the Bf series is the benchmark for realism or anything. But at least they try.

True. If you want more realism (and a crappier game) then check out ARMA.

OK, gonna get on my laptop and see if I can grab an unsecured wireless nearby and see if I can get on TD that way.

Cleared my history and cookies and now it works. :goodposting: Prices are not those that are quoted in Bing either. Screw you, TD, and the tiger you rode in on.

Guess I will be waiting for the next 5850 deal to come along then. BCB is a nice bonus but not a deal maker since it takes so #######g long to get it.

Guess I can go ahead and uninstall the beta then.

I hope they let us preinstall over the weekend.

Looks like there is some release day DLC that we will get to make for 10 total maps. Preload is anytime between Sunday and release day apparently.

part of the issue is the "new maps" are just maps they already have on the disk re-cut to accommodate different game modes.

I don't think anyone really knows just how many actual maps the game is shipping with. could be as low as 8 from what i've seen. Pretty sure Bf2 shipped with twice that many.
