i had problems figuring out how to get vent to recognize my mic. most of my confusion came from the diferent sound settings in windows 7.

OK, anything I need to know about Vent as far as setup? Got connected to the server easy enough, but having always used TS, I don't know if there are any ins or outs to the setup of it all.
Basic setup is pretty much plug and play. There are a lot of other options that you can use if you want but you don't need to. The one option I like about Vent is that you can individually adjust volume so you can turn the loud screamers down and the quiet chucklers up. :pickle:
K, so Maelstrom gets tweaked up and Corp down then?
:pickle:

getting very tired of the map, but i'm enjoying trying out some new guns and tactics. The M249 SAW is very nice.

Based on roughly 15 hours of play time, here are the changes i think DICE would make (assuming that game play in the final version is similar to this and conquest mode plays about how we expect it to)

- crouch as toggle

- give accuracy boost when crouching (i don't see any so far)

- eliminate squad hopping (but keep the ability to spawn on any squad member)

- slow down repair ability (2 engys can repair a tank from 1% health to 100% health in less than 10 seconds)

- limit amount of snipers on attacking team to 2 or 3.

- make mounted guns re-generate slower (i think the TOW's come back way too quick, encouraging bad tank drivers to hang back forever rather than attack)

- don't allow knives to cut through fences. (yeah, its convenient, but it makes no sense. You cant blow up a fence with a knife)

- fix collision detection with people and trees. Its too easy to get caught on them.

-quicker switching between weapons.

- kill cam. Its not a game killer, but i don't like it.

Things i would NOT change.....

1) Prone. dont miss it and it adds nothing but camping and more snipers

2) hit detection could be improved a tiny bit, but its better than Bf2. I could deal with it if they raised bullet damage by a tiny bit, but its not as bad as i thought. my guess is that Hit Det will be better in the full release.

3) the amount of weapons/specializations you can carry is fine. grenade spam is under control.

Things i hope they add......

- more options for scopes and other balanced weapon customizations (as much as i dislike MW2, this is something they got correct)

- more weapons (obviously more is better as long as they're balanced)

- ability to say "thank you" when someone revives/heals/resupplies you.

- ability to directly call for ammo/health. Some assault/medic don't look at the minimap and never drop their supplies.

Pretty much hate the beta map, but mainly cuz I haven't played it with anyone who knows what theyare doing. I'm on vent so will try to hook up.

Also Joe, post or pm your paypal addy so we can throw you a few bucks.

The cost was less than $20.00 for the first 6 months. When it comes time to re-up I'll let everybody know.

:blackdot: I do miss prone but not as much as I thought I would. If they make crouch a toggle I may miss it even less.

So is this worth it for the PC?
As much as I loved the first one, I'm going to withhold judgment until I get to play some different maps. I don't like the beta map at all.
I will buy it for the single player at the very least, although I can't imagine it not being better on different maps. Frankly, some of the fight in and around the houses is epic already. I can't imagine a nice open battlefield.

some areas of the beta map are ok. The house fighting around the 2nd set of CP's is very fun.

The only thing really spoiling this map is the very start of it. The first set of crates just begs for attackers to either A) Snipe or B) sit back in a tank and just take pot shots at all the cover.

IMO, the rest of the map is pretty fun. There's interesting ways to attack and the terrain is very influential on the game play.

Me and Joe played tonight. MUCH better when you play with someone who knows what is going on. I'm having a strange problem with Vent I'll have to work on. If you are talking to me and I don't respond, it's because Vent goofs up on me. I have to disconnect and reconnect to get it working.

Game Informer (the magazine you get from a Gamestop Discount Card membership) has BC2 as a 9.5. They lauded the single player mode particularly the vehicle levels.

This is the problem I'm having in Vent. Glad no one else is because it's as annoying as crap.

Tried the first solution (running in compatibility mode), we'll see if that works.

Mad Cow, Maelstrom, and I completely owned. We were outnumbered 9 to 4 and just kept plugging. Ended up with an 11000 point round thanks to a 5000 repair pin.

looks like we're gettng a patch at some point in the next day or so. no word on exactly what they're fixing.

hopefully they're making crouch toggle. Getting kinda sick of holding down the thumb button on my mouse.

I played a bit with Corp yesterday and then played a few rounds on my own. I'm starting to get the hang of it and have unlocked a few weapons. The auto shotgun for the engineer is awesome when fighting house to house! I did take a ride in the blackhawk once. I couldn't hit #### as a gunner. Very frustrating.

as usual, the medic kit is going to be the big scorer. The 2 early unlock LMG's are both very good, (M249 SAW and the PKM) especially with a red dot scope. They're very accurate and you can fire them standing up. Plus they have a 200 round clip. They're killing machines and medium and even long range if you're good. Add in the insane points you can rack up for healing a small group (especially if its your squad) and you can get 10-12K points per round without a problem if you get a 5K award (like a gold star, which are too easy to get at this point)

The Recon kit gets some small carbine type weapons as unlocks later in the game that look like they'll be good. Combine an accurate rifle with the mortar strikes or C4 and they'll become a nice mobile attacking class.

Assault's early guns have nice stopping power but alot of recoil. The grenade launcher is very useful. And, of course, they get unlimited ammo (assuming they ever actually drop their ammo box, which very few do)

Engy seems to be a little more limited than i originally thought. Its dificult to aim the rocket launchers at long range (they suffer from pretty severe "bullet drop") and it takes at least 3 shots to take out a tank. If they have an engy repairing them (or an increased armor upgrade) you're almost better off letting them take shots at you from long range. you'll never kill them if theyr'e smart. The SCAR is the best gun in the game so far at taking out 1 (or even 2 opponents) at mid range if they arent shooting back. However, its got no power up close and a small clip. Sucks for room clearing. I'm not a big shot gun guy, so unless the "battle rifles" you unlock later have some versatility, i cant see myself spending a ton of time as engy (just spot duty when tanks become a problem or i'm repairing someome)

As we found out last night, Engineer can actually point whore with the best of them. I ran Engy with the semi-auto shotty and wow, owned. Armed a CP, then sat at the top of the stairs looking down over the banister. 2 guys started running up - 2 shots to their heads and they both went down. Outstanding! :lmao:That was a heck of a round with Maelstrom and Corp last night. Down 9-4 and not getting anywhere. Down to about 3 spawns and we finally cleared the first area. Got 2 more players on our team and I don't think the other team adapted, because we rolled them to their last spawn area in about 10 minutes tops from there. Fantastic ending with all of us with high points. Mael and I were at 6k and Corp at 11k with this gold star. :lmao:

the engy guns (at least those that we have access to in the beta) because far worse as you are forced to engage more people.

The SCAR is awesome in spots, but most of the time i feel like i'm shooting people with paintballs.

Again, we really wont know how everything will play out until we get access to late unlocks.

If I can get a AR of some sort with Recon I might go that way originally. I love the mortar and I enjoyed scouting and ID'ing targets. I can play overwatch for you guys

How do you get the 5k point medals? They seem kind of random. Also still trying to get a few more xbox guys to test the demo and roll together.

they come as a result of various accomplishments. (just like challenges in Mw2) I think i got one last week for having 200 squad members spawn on me.

Don't know that I'll spend much more time on the demo. Hate that map and don't really have any interest in playing it again.Like the game though so I'll probably buy it.

I'm sick of that map too. I think I'll wait until after release to see what the rest of the guys here say about it. I'm sure it'll be fine, but I'm so overwhelmed with games I'm playing and some I still haven't played, that I doubt I'll have much time for another BF. We'll see.

I didn't get the gold star last night, it was the long term maintenance pin for getting 100 repairs. That has to be a one time only global because I didn't get 100 in that single round. It is a 5k pin though. I also have a medic pin like that. I'll be playing again tonight. Changed a setting in vent andit didn't crap out so hopefully those problems are gone.

Corp and I rolled the map tonight, the map is actually growing on me a little as I get to know it and the classes/game itself. I think just about every round we were in the top 3 for our team.

If you don't mind being suicidal (and ya'll know I don't) - using C4 on the objectives works quite well. Takes 2 full hits with 3 sticks each time so either 2 recon people or getting ammo replenished (or dying, which is my usual route.) I knocked off 3 (maybe 4) of the objectives on one of the maps doing this. I'm sure some would frown on it, but it's no different than sitting back in the tank blowing shells at it. Any way that objective gets blown up.

anyone notice better hit detection and performance yesterday with the patch? The battlefield forum nerds are claiming a clear difference.

Down to less than 2 weeks now, eh? Nice. I need to look at the unlocks and figure out where to go when and such. I want to get that RDS as fast as I can, since the irons are just crap.

I have been playing some OK BF2 rounds lately, as well. I am gonna miss the commander. That really did add a cool dimension to the game.

I just realized that this thread is about the only reason I come to FBG and the FFA anymore.

you have to unlock the RDS for each class individually. You really dont get to "choose" unlocks. you just choose what class you play and the unlocks eventually come. Just like in the Beta, i'll probably spread my game time out over all the classes. a lot of the unlocks i REALLY want arent class-specific, so i'll get them once i reach the required rank.

What are the unlocks you are targeting? I have to admit that I am excited for the Thompson SMG. Seems to be great for the engineer class. Probably great for a medic in close combat support as well.

I'm looking at the large caliber "battle rifles" that you start unlocking around rank 20 or so. They fit my play style very well. And the thompson isnt great from what i've seen (its unlockable in the beta and you get it free with the limited edition pre-order). It doesnt have a big clip and its not that accurate. It has ok stopping power up close, but is useless once you get 15 yards away (at least from my experience). plus you cant put a RDS on it.

I will have to look at those. We talking like the G36 and such?I wish they did have the stat bars for all those unlocks. Seems like you cannot see them until they are all actually unlocked.

remember the G3 from Bf2? Think guns like that (large caliber bullets, pretty small clips, big time stopping power and above average long range accuracy). The G36 is more of a carbine (like the SCAR)edit: and you can see their stats. just click on them on the unlocks menu and click "details". you can see all teh stats that way.

I might be down for some later. Anyone game for any old school BF2 before it gets lost for good?

What's the learning curve for BF2 from a MW player?

Played a few mins in the demo online and had no idea what i was doing.

How do i get in a chopper? Is there no FFA mode?

Also the graphics and gameplay were great but the Killcam seriously sucked IMO

what system you playing on?

not sure how to get into a vehicle on the 360. My guess is that its probably X.

as for the kill cam, it isnt really a kill cam. it just shows where your killer is at that exact moment(doesnt show him taking the shot that put you down). i wish they would just ditch it entirely. Its such a crutch, especially in a game like this.
