I am still trying to figure out that spotter scope. Seeing no benefit at all to this point. It does not auto-spot, so I am still pressing Q the entire time. Might as well go Magnum and get the straighter shot.
i dont bother with it. Doesnt seem like a worthy trade off considering it costs you magnum ammo or body armor. (or better explosive damage).I can spot manually just fine (when it actually works)
 
Well, rank 24 now. Hooboy, there is a huge leap to 25 now - 65k from previous around 28k.
My next rank is like 136K away.
That is just cruel. Oh well, it's not like there is any benefit to higher rank at this point in the game.It makes you wonder when you see rank 40+'s though, doesn't it?
i'm interested to see what happens down the road. I have to think we're gonna get some more unlocks at some point. If i'm level 40 when they drop an expansion pack, will i immedietly get all the unlocks from level 25-40? And yes, anyone over level 30 really needs a life. I'm pretty good at this game and have played way too much. (over 50 hours of play time already. Major :confused: ) but i cant imagine the people that are level 35 or so. Just brutal.

Even if they are just using the uber weapons the entire time, you eventually run out of stars to earn. (nothing after platinum as far as i know) Using all the weapons has probably gotten me ~100K points that i wouldnt have otherwise gotten. Yeah, using the shotguns, bad SMG's and the bad pistols has cost me kills, but the extra points from the stars more than makes up the diference eventually.
When I looked at the playing time of the leaders on that bfbcs.com site, the top guys were averaging about 12 hours per day every day for the first month. Oh, to be in college again.
 
I have only used explosive dmg for engineer, but am curious if that carries over to the 40mm for assault and mortar for recon. Interesting.

Had a fun moment recently. On Atacama, their chopper was hovering over their base firing from there. I tagged it with a tracer, then one-shotted it with a rocket and got 350 pts between destroy vehicle, 2 kills, avenger kills, saviors, etc. :confused:

 
i played a fair amount this weekend. Again, i was playing with lousy guns most of the time to get the stars. Some people are REALLY bad at shooting. there are plenty of assault guys that use the 40mm as their primary weapon. You can tell because they have like 8 gold stars with it. Brutal.

I got a lot of pleasure out of killing them with the starting Engy gun, the SCAR or the UMP 45 (which is actually good, but it feels like you're shooting BB's). If i was them, i'd be embarassed.

I have a question about the defend and attack order pins. I have gotten both multiple times but never on the same game so I do not have that badge yet. Anyone know the specific about accomplishing each one? I mostly play rush, thus its either attack or defend so that must play a big part in having a bunch of each but none together.

the defend flag pin is mis-labeled in game. Its says you need 4 flag defends. you really need like 6. So you kill 6 guys that are within range of taking a flag your team owns. Some people claim that you have th have the "defend flag" order on that flag, but i didnt find that to be the case. If your team owns the flag and you get a "flag defense +30" when you kill the guy, it counts.edit: never mind, you're talking about something diferent. the one award that is gonna kill me is the one that requires you to get 5 nemesis pins. i only have 1 at this point and i dont see too many people that have a shot at killing me enough times in a round to become my nemesis. i think i may have to get it in one of the squad-based games.

I just got that one this morning, do Isla Innocentes rush map, use a recon loadout with 12x and Magnum Ammo, drive the big boat a very short ways, change your seat so that you can use your sniper rifle and go to town, that is the easiest way to get that pin.
Thank you for posting this. I had no idea that something like this would work, so I haven't bothered to try to get the sea vehicle pin. This is going to be cake.

I just got that one this morning, do Isla Innocentes rush map, use a recon loadout with 12x and Magnum Ammo, drive the big boat a very short ways, change your seat so that you can use your sniper rifle and go to town, that is the easiest way to get that pin.

yeah, there were similar tricks to getting badges in BF2. You could sit in a machine gun nest in the main base as commander and just bomb artillary all round. since you were technically in an emplaced weapon, the kills counted as weapon emplacement kills. Would have been very, very dificult to get the # of kills in a round needed otherwise.

You never know. Last night on Port Valdez I went 18-5 in rush defending and got my second nemesis pin. Funny moment from last night on the desert level while we were defending the last set of M-Coms. I am staying near the entrance to the lower floor on the outside near the ocean by the shipping containers. Manback spawns on me and runs in between two containers and looks the other direction towards the the defend points. I say, "manback I wouldn't sit there, that's the sneaky spot I like to enter from when I'm attacking." Manback says something along the lines of "Huh!?!?". And then from my view of about 4ft. away, but on the other side of the crate, he is lit up by about 200 bullets let loose from 4 enemies. :goodposting:

I bought this yesterday for $19.95 at the EA store with a code I got from an EGO admin. I needed a break from LFD and it was either this or the new Alien vs. Predator. I played a little bit last night on single player after the download and it seems like fun.

I will add you. It seems that the problem with the friend list can be helped if you both send each other an invite. I don't think just one sending it helps at all.

i dont think thats the case. I have friends on my list that i didnt send invites to. I believe i got 2 invites from Senor schmutzig this weekend and added him without a problem (i didnt send him an invite.)

I jumped in a squad deathmatch game for a round and it was fairly fun. It was HC which made it all the more tense, IMO.

 
Semi auto snipers suck and I wish I could team kill the 8 snipers camping the jungle when 4 of us are getting trapped at the objective point for 10 minutes. Seriously, anything over 2 snipers on a team hurts your chances of winning, and that's even if they are good. :thumbup:

 
I should be able to unlock the automatic silenced sniper here in a few rounds. I am curious how that one plays out.

Ahmen. When you play Rush or Conquest.....2 snipers are enough (if they are competent). I maxed out Recon...and really don't run as that class anymore unless our teams are sucking at sniping.

2 "new" maps today. Looks like they limited Arica Harbor to just the town and made it infantry only for conquest. This is a tad disappointing, as i think the areas between the town and the last stand would have made some interesting spots for flags.

Also looks like they added heavy tanks to Laguna Presa for conquest. Could be interesting.

The squad deathmatch for Arica is just the city area with all the buildings and it is pretty cool that way. I dig infantry only conquest.
 
Infantry only is passable without the Bf2 style grenade spam. That garbage ruined Karkand.

I just wish the desert area between the town and the last stand was open. (the area with the bridge and all the buildings/train cars) Its a cool area and would have allowed for use of vehicles.

 
Anyone know if they released a patch with the two maps? If/when they do I hope they put more incentive behind capturing points in conquest because right now it doesn't matter and a good team should just camp an area instead. The only motivation for an objective in conquest for me is to not listen that damn horn for 10 minutes.

yeah...i dont even think of playing Conquest unless they make it worthwhile to actually take an objective. looks like the play is to acquire the big weapons and slay...

Now the big vehicles all spawn at the uncapables (for the most part). It helps keep the game balanced (all the tanks will never be on one side unless an idiot abandons one and allows it to be stolen) but it makes the game less interesting.

At this point, for the most part, conquest has become a game of musical flags. The game is still crazy fun, (because the game play is great) but conquest is missing something tactically. no question about it.

i really dont think so. Remember playing on sharqi? If the US lost the TV station, they got no chopper. (not to mention no tank and no commander assets) If they had no chopper, they got slaughtered. I can remember many occasions where we would abandon whatever we were doing and haul ### across the map to try and save it. At this point, situations like that dont exist in Bc2. So what if you lose flag A? Just move on to Flag B. Other things that add to this.....- the ability to spawn on any squad member (this means quicker re-inforcements up front, making it easier to attack and take flags)- both teams always have uncapable bases (essentially makes the game team death match)Just look at Panama canal. I love that map, but the flags mean nothing. There are so many times where one team has all the flags. But the other team just needs to slip one guy through (doesnt matter who it is, because you can squad hop and spawn on anybody) and take a flag. Before you know it, the game is back on.Although it sucks when you're on the recieving end of a beatdown, i think Laguna Alta is one of, if not my favorite map. The flags are far enough apart that you cant run back and forth all day. Plus, the one team can be backed up all the way to their spawn and base raped. (no way out of that little valley with people shooting from the Hill near C and the road from A) Yeah, it sucks getting baseraped, but if it happens to you, you know you earned it. Theres's no question who the better team was.

How can I tell if some gives me an order? I just got the game.
Instead of a diamond, for A, B, or C you will see a diamond with a perpendicular line crossing each side of the diamond.In order to set a FRAGO just "mouse over" the letter on your screen and choose the Select Key (on PS3).

I don't disagree with Sharqi. But a decent commander would have at least one squad camped out at the TV station at all times. Also, he could spot that one guy who sneaks through the front lines with the UAV flyover. But your point is well taken. I just miss the commander. Tactically, that is what is missing from this game. Rather than following an order, now I just follow Tlef or Cooleyo.
 
Anyone tried Arica on conquest yet? Gonna jump in in a moment and give it a try.

I have spent almost all my time in Conquest so far and really enjoy it, but am liking rush more as we go. I was so pissed off at Rush after the beta period, so sick of it I had not really gone back. LOVE Arica Harbor and Nelson Bay though, so it is like a whole new game. Really enjoyed squad deathmatch in Arica as well. We are gonna have to get that one going.

This is how i feel, conquest is BC2s TDM.
 
i still go for flags all the time, but at times, it feels pointless. even if i make the decision to stay and defend a flag, i know i'm usually doing so alone.

i'm pretty good, but not good enough to kill 5-7 guys at a time.

Consoles didn't get the update that shortens the horn to 2 sounds and stops? That was the best update so far.

That's interesting. My play has been almost exactly the opposite. I've played a few Conquest rounds, but by and large it just feels like team deathmatch. At least to me, Rush seems to be more organized and has a more predictable ebb and flow.

Its so ridiculous what you can do and crazy fun just watching them kill half the guys up there and then having everyone revived while their trading tickets with you. Many xbox FBGs have been involved in this tactic. :confused:

 
The automatic sniper is nice for one thing - you can use it as an assault weapon to score more points quickly in a round. I tried a round with it and the RDS and had OK success considering we were down 8-14 most of the round in terms of player numbers.

Yeah me n Barley 'discovered' this tactic when we were getting our asses beat by it, next round (I think you joined in) we employed it (vs Dude no less) with much success.
