close quarters releases tomorrow on the PC and 360 for premium members.

I'm starting to come around on it a little bit. They posted a video the other day with lots of footage, and the maps LOOK amazing (in terms of the level of detail). A few of them look like they'll play in interesting ways. I still fear that there will be too many choke points with a constant barrage of explosives, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

It also includes a new mode called "gun master" which is exactly the same as gun game on call of duty (start with a pistol and your weapon upgrades after every kill until you get the last kill with a knife to win). I probably won't spend too much time there though. Doesn't appeal to me.

Wish it wasn't the first map pack coming out, but I'll deal with it. Just want to play some new maps and the 8-8 set up will at least give me the chance to rack up some nemesis ribbons.

I've been reconsidering the premium membership myself. Just cause I don't have anything else I've been playing much, little bit of Crysis2 to pass the time, but some new maps would be fun.

Not excited for the new maps. I will ultimately buy them, but individually. Eff prepaying a company for DLC. COD already fooled me once.

I will give BLOPS 2 a go and BC3 when that comes out.

The maps are pretty and it will help me get some medals that are damn near impossible (Surveillance, claymore) but close quarters has absolutely no tactics involved. Its COD with a different engine.

I certainly don't feel duped or anything, since they made it very clear what it is. But if you're someone who has been away and looking for a reason to come back, you'll probably want to take a pass.

I broke down and bought premium. What guns do you recommend I unlock? I will most likely unlock them all, but what are going to be the ones that are used the most?

Not crazy about the ACW-R. The ScarL is good for long range, but nothing special IMO (although some of the "elite" youtubers are absolutely gushing over it)The AUG shows promise, but i haven't used it enough to make a full judgement. The MTAR is good, but doesn't fit my play style (shines in close quarters with attachments set up to hip fire) The M417 is easily the best battle rifle (better than the SKS or G3). Love it. The JNG 90 just seems like your average sniper rifle. Haven't used the other new guns yet and probably wont/ Kinda want to play close quarters to get some of the awards i can't get in vanilla game play. But its killing my K/D ratio. There's just no way to play tactically with random spawn points.

I got premium last week and absolutely got my ### handed to me in close quarters. Ugghh. Guess i'll need to spend more time working on NOT being roadkill after every virtual 5 feet.I personally use the AK74M as my weapon of choice. Although, I played with the Scar-L in Battlefield 2 and love that weapon as well. I'm going to work on getting it and seeing if it's any different.

Some nice rounds with Maelstrom last night. Until the last round where Maelstrom and I were holding the construction site of Oman by ourselves and the rest of the team lost the rest of the map in the matter of the first couple of minutes. It was all downhill from there. However, we were on the top of the leaderboard for our team... which for me usually means it's a sign that my team blows.

I'd like to see if we can get some guys together to play again soon.

:thumbup:Same here, when I'm at the top, usually I find about 20 snipers scattered around the map, all on my team. I swear at one point on the second to last round the other team had all of the land vehicles convoying from one flag to another just blasting the crap outta anyone trying to recap a flag.

Any PCers wanna get a game going later this evening? I'm in and Cooleyo said he's in if we can get a group. Maelstrom says he may play if he's home. Anyone else available?

I honestly forgot how good the M16 was (stopped using it a couple of months ago after the patch that gave the ASVAL extended mags).

It really is just a beast. So accurate and works in every situation.

I know nobody is really playing anymore, but

is an awesome video.Any time I think I'm getting really good, I just see a video like this and leave shaking my head. Some of these guys are unreal. The tank driver on grand bazaar is awesome.

So, for any of you guys that haven't heard, EA inadvertently announced Battlefield 4 without really announcing Battlefield 4. You see, access to Battlefield 4's beta was leaked as the pre-order bonus when you pre-order the new Medal of Honor. And since that was leaked, EA had to admit that, yes, there is a Battlefield 4 in the works. And all of this happens before the last 3 DLC packs are even released.

Thoughts? Is Battlefield the new Call of Duty? It sure seems like they're going yearly like CoD? (if you count rotating Medal of Honor and Battlefield as going yearly)

Here is Dice's official statement from the Battlefield website: http://blogs.battlefield.com/2012/07/guarantee-your-access-to-the-battlefield-4-beta/

Battlefield fans –

The team at DICE is hard at work on the next entry in the Battlefield series, and to ensure access to the exclusive Battlefield 4 beta, shooter fans can pre-order Medal of Honor Warfighter today. While there is no further Battlefield 4 news at this point – remember, if you don’t see it published here, it’s just rumor and speculation – we did want to take this opportunity to share a few thoughts on the state of the Battlefield franchise.

We are extremely proud of Battlefield 3, and with millions of fans out there, we’re happy you’re enjoying it too. When we launched the game, we introduced unparalleled levels of in-game destruction, all-out vehicle warfare and redefined online gameplay. Even with billions of bullets fired and millions of games played, we know the Battlefield 3 story is still just the beginning. As ever, we are humbled by the community’s response to the game, and couldn’t be happier with the feedback we have received to Battlefield 3 Premium. With the Back to Karkand and Close Quarters expansion packs already out, Armored Kill around the corner, and End Game and Aftermath still on the horizon, we’re looking forward to many more hours of gameplay with you, and can’t wait to see the stories you will tell through Battlelog and player created videos.

But we’re not ready to talk about Battlefield 4 yet – in the meantime, we hope you will continue to enjoy Battlefield 3 and all the Battlefield 3 Premium content still to come. We invite you to check out Danger Close Studio’s Medal of Honor Warfighter, which is also powered by the Frostbite 2 engine and the free social network, Battlelog. Don’t forget that pre-ordering Medal of Honor Warfighter Limited Edition (at no extra cost) guarantees access to the exclusive Battlefield 4 Beta.

See you on the battlefield!

Probably won't be out until at least holiday 2013.

The last medal of honor stunk and it's not the same dev team.. They're just using the engine.

I think the last expansion pack is due in like March of 13. I think there will be a reasonable amount of time between that and bf4

So I know pretty much everyone stopped playing this (considering the thread hasn't been posted in in like 6 weeks) but they just released a trailer (for premium players only) that showed some pretty extensive footage of Armored kill (which releases on 9/11 for PC premium players). The maps look amazing. They're obviously huge with tons of vehicles.

So for anyone looking to get back into it, now might be a good time.

If not, I'll just keep playing by myself :kicksrock:

edit: What I would say for anyone who is considering it, but isn't sure: wait until the Ex-pac is released for non-premium players (probably 9/25) to see if you're into the game again. When you factor in the fact that the close quarters expansion pack mostly sucked, (maps were super pretty and there's a lot of action, but its not battlefield. Its a COD clone with totally random spawn points and no teamwork with a few decent weapons) the only real bonus to buying premium is that you get everything 2 weeks early (plus some fairly useless stuff like extra camos and double XP weeks). If each Ex-pac is $15, and you aren't going to play CQ, you'd save money buying the last 3 expansion packs a la carte. ($45 vs $50). The only downside is that you have to wait an extra 2 weeks for each one (compared to premium players)

Armored Kill would be something I might enjoy, but it is just hard to go back to a game when I almost never play games anymore anyway. Kind of sad. :kicksrock:

I still play quite a bit. I have gotten to like the Close Quarters maps and game play.

Big patch today. Lots of weapons balance changes. The main one was the nerfing of the M16 and M4A1 (which basically had zero recoil since launch and were super overpowered.). Unfortunately, Dice is a bunch of idiots and gave the M416 a totally unnecessary buff to fill the gap. (played my first game with it and went 60-15 on Seinne crossing on a losing team, which is basically impossible) The UMP is also a 3 bullet kill now.

The good news is they made the silencer a playable attachment again. The previous patch made the heavy barrel a significantly better option across the board.

Armored kill came out for PS3 today. Next week for PC. :excited:

I played a couple of rounds over the last week or so - nice to get back.

On my phone now, but I'll write up something more detailed later.... (playing pc obviously. Console experience might be different)

Pros

maps look amazing (other than an ugly blue tint on the night map) the mountain map is absolutely stunning, but plays the worst Imo.

Tank destroyers are very fun.

The maps are huge. This is definitely battlefield.

Cons

Infantry are mostly useless. You'll want to be in a vehicle 90 % of the time.

Mountain map is not great (I've only played it once though)

tank superiority game mode doesn't work playing with randoms. It's a broken Game mode

other thoughts...

I haven't played rush yet, but people are complaining about some balance issues involving the ac130. (which is mostly useless in Conquest because it goes down really easily)

Overall I really like it, but I'm still looking forward to aftermath and end game more

My best round last night was a 45-8 run on armored shield (started off 27-0 rolling in a tank destroyer)

my worst was my one round on the mountain map. I think I went 29 and 29. Constantly caught in the open by choppers and tanks trying to attack flags. On that map, I think I'm better off just hanging at one of the middle flags and defending. Might work better with a full squad....

Best part of the game recently : chopper gunners can't use flares anymore. So most pilots are using below radar to avoid jets. This leaves the non-elite pilots wide open to tanks. I blew like 15 choppers out of the sky last night (including a full transport chopper for 5 kills). It's pretty awesome

It's no secret I LOVE the armor maps. One of my favorite maps of all time is from BF1942 - El Alamein. That was a classic. Played many hours on that one in LAN parties. :nerd:

When do those of us that are not premium members get access? :bag:

ETA flying that B17 over the pass in El Alamein and dropping a crapload of bombs for megakills was BIG FUN! :excited:

Toyed around on Alborz Mountains last night. I did the old snipe from the tallest mountain trick with an SVD. Most kills were about 300m, but after about 20 rounds I finally nailed someone 768m away (headshot). Fun map.

The rest were cool too. Really like Tank Superiority.

One bug I found was in the night map during Rush. After the 1st set of M-Coms were destroyed you spawned in via parachute completely out of bounds. No way to get in. Our ticket count was around 35 when the bug finally fixed itself.

so yeah, pretty much the opposite of what I thought...

What map did you play Tank Superiority on? I played it on Bandar Desert and hated it. It was basically 15 tanks taking long range pot shots at each other over a flag in the middle of nowhere. I found it very boring.

Alborz and Armored Shield. Haven't played it on Bandar yet. It is pretty boring, I agree...but I like it...it's different.Another thing that I'm not fond of is the #2 gunner in the Gunship has thermal vision. This is overkill in Rush maps that don't have any way of shooting the damn thing down except for from the ground.

Me too. Not loving armored kill. The huge maps don't really cater to my best play style. They are well done and gorgeous but playing as infantry is mostly pointless. I just feel like a non factor half the time.

I have some fun tanking, but I still prefer to be on foot.

I might try and play some rush mode. Maybe getting away from the Conquest musical flags and playing a more focused objective will improve my experience

only took me 1/2 a round to remember why I hate rush. If you have lousy/passive teammates and you're attacking, you basically end up fighting the other team 1 vs 32 until the tickets run out. (while your team either snipes from a hill, tries to C4 bomb tanks with ATV's or wastes our tanks by taking useless pot shots from 300 meters away from the MCOMS)

And oh yeah, you need to cover 350 yards of open ground to even get to the MCOMS :wall:

I would love to go back to some of the smaller maps, but no servers are running them right now :kicksrock:

Well you only asked about the 430. I have at least half a dozen each of every other model.
That's a fair point. :lmao:I'm surprised you're planning to use it. Figured you gaming guys were well passed that model by now. I'm just looking to get one for streaming video.
I got it for cheap a few months ago. It is going into a new office computer. It has limited potential for the rare BF2 LAN events I run at my office for friends, hence, its inclusion. I wouldn't dream of using it in a computer where I actually needed to play games.

I grabbed Premium today. GMG has the base game and premium codes for $30. So now I have a free BF3 code to gift to someone for Christmas. . .

Time for some Armored Kill I guess.

Good grief, these expansions are memory hogs. Several GB for each expansion, which amount to little more than new maps?

The Next DLC, entitled "Aftermath" is coming in the next couple of weeks. Apparently the maps are going to be roughly the size of Karkand (which is perfect IMO) and will feature cities damaged in a earthquake. I'm super excited about it and hoping some of ya'll will come back and get back into this.

I've been playing a little more lately. I still don't have the premium stuff, but if I can find a discount deal for it, I wouldn't mind getting it.

Yah, I was kinda waiting for a discount deal myself, since the first 3 have been out for a bit. Guessing it isn't coming though, at least, not until all the DLCs are released.

You missed it with the GMG deal. Of course, I got it and have yet to play it, due to my crazy life.
