Ugh. Pretty weak that they did that like 9 days after I got my card. Apparently Amazon has a non-advertised price match guarantee if their own price drops within 30 days.

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/chatterbox/2007/01/amazons_secret_price_guarantee.html

Gonna see where my 770 goes down to and give them a call. Hopefully they refund the difference. Otherwise I may actually go through the pain of buying a new one and sending the old one back. Usually I wouldn't bother, but when its $170, its worth the trouble.

edit: I could also see myself getting a 2nd one for Xmas and going SLI for the first time :nerd:
Now i"m really interested in getting two 770's. I can sell my two 570's to help offset the cost.

My current mobo is only pcie 2.0. Any performance hit if I put a pcie 3.0 card in there?
No, what you get is the cards won't be as fast. Of course, your cpu might be throttling it anyway. You need at least Ivy Bridge to take advantage of pcie 3.0. Even Sandy Bridge would only take advantage of 2.0.
yeah, i have a i7 2600K Sandy Bridge oc'd to 4.3ghz. So you're saying they "won't" be as fast. Is it worth it to upgrade then?
Slower is relative. You still have more GPU power.

From what I'm hearing right now, BF4 single player is worth playing this time. It's short (from 4 to 6 hours) and unlocks some guns for multiplayer. I'll mess with it on a slow day.

Hope you guys didn't stay up too late! Game looked awesome (even on my 6870).

If you get in game, jump on mumble first, someone will join you sooner or later.

Mumble info:

Label: FBG Battlefield Mumble (whatever you want really)
Address: 192.81.218.183
Port: 64738 (pretty sure that is the default)
Username: [YOUR USER NAME]

It may (will) give you a message the first time complaining about the lack of a valid certificate. Say you trust it and to connect anyways.

Once you are in, right-click on your username and register with the server. That way I can make people admins, etc.

No password for now. If other people start finding it/connecting, etc, we'll worry about it then.

Quick first impressions before I go to bed (gonna pay for this in the morning)

- Gun play seems pretty tight

- Graphics look pretty great

- Boats may need a nerf. They're VERY good. Ran off a 15 kill steak with the mini gun on the side despite my driver whipping around like a lunatic

- Some bugs (sound cutting out) and rubberbanding, but that was expected.

The map in the tank factory is pretty cool. I liked Dawnbreaker as well. Not a fan of Golmud Railway

The last map after you guys bailed was bad...lag and rubberbanding got really bad. Hope they release a few server patches really quickly. CnK guys were all in chat trying to figure it out, decide whether to reboot the server again (I think they did as soon as the map ended, it disappeared from my battlelog screen.)

Did you end up getting a 4GB or a 2GB card?

FYI, the ign review called the single player an embarrassment.

Just a generic series of shooting galaries with a lousy story. Lame that you need to complete it to get all the weapons

This is one of those games where I wish they would just drop the SP altogether. If they took the guys that developed the SP campaign and put them to work making a couple of extra MP maps instead, that would be a great tradeoff. I'll spend many, many more hours on any one particular map than I will in the entire SP.

Exactly. So many wasted resources. (Art, level design, AI, story writing). Just get rid of it

Hmmm... dunno... originally I wasn't planning on it. But I think I'm going to skip next gen for now, so I might go ahead and get it.

Wow, it has been a long time. I suck. At least I remember how to whore up the medic points to stay near the top of the leaderboards. ;)

So do you have to manually activate the XP boosts that you get, or does it just apply them as it deems necessary?

So has anyone tried the console versions yet?
I played a couple of rounds of Conquest on PS3 (gamertag BWAmbassador). The reviews of the graphics being a little ugly are right. But I thought it played smooth and that's more important to me. I've gotten use to running and gunning twitch lagfests in COD and BF4 was so much better. No crappy deaths due to lag, actual strategy mattering, and teamwork being encouraged. And frankly, since I know everyone is going to have the same graphics and frame rate as me without me having to go spend $500 to upgrade my PC, I actually don't mind the graphics. They never really interfered with my gameplay.I only played Shanghai and Langam Dam, but I thought both maps were good maps. Big, but not too big. Multiple routes to different points, good cover, etc. There were times that the maps felt a tad large for just 24 players as we just went round and round on flag captures, but I think better squad work would have changed that.

The balance between guns, equipment and vehicles seems decent so far. I will agree that the gunboats seem pretty OP right now. It will be interesting to see if the balance between vehicles and infantry remains as people start earning the higher vehicle upgrades. I thought the vehicles became hugely OPed in BF3 pretty quickly.

My initial impression is very good overall. I loved BFBC2. One of my favorite games. I hated BF3 and traded it in after 2 weeks. So far this reminds me much more of BFBC2 than BF3.

(I finished 2nd overall my first game and 1st on my team in my second. Assault class definitely seems like the way to go early)

770 4 GB on the way for delivery tomorrow. I've got the game and mumble installed. I don't think I'll have time for a round tonight but I'll probably try to test mumble so it's ready to go for Friday. I think that will be my first chance to play. You guys will all be colonels by then.

That's what I wanted to hear.

I should be on later tonight. Too busy with work so far. I really had to resist the urge to play last night because if I did I never would have went to bed.

Really struggled getting past the first engineer gun. Its just brutal. No accuracy and uncontrollable recoil. Finally unlocked some carbines and threw on my 100% xp boost and started doing damage. Was 32-8 on a round of Dawnbreak and I crashed.

Maps I like...

Paracel Storm

Dawnbreaker

Zavod 311

Siege of Shanghai

Hainan Resort (sort of)

Don't like...

Golmund railway

Not sure...

Floodzone

Lancang Dam

haven't played rogue transmission or Op. Locker yet.

Oh yeah, some stuff I'm not crazy about...

-The visual blurring when you get suppressed is WAY overdone. Its like you're tripping on shrooms

-For some reason, the scale of the mini map makes it seem (at least to me) that other people are way closer than they actually. I keep chasing after guys on the map thinking they're 40 feet away from me and it turns out to be like 40 yards.

The pickup sniper rifle is really fun. 1 hit kill anywhere on the body.

One giant issue I have. Not sure if it's just console or PC too.

You can't party/squad up before going into a server. So dumb. So you have to find a server. One person go in and send invites and hope everyone makes it in in time before it fills up. Horrible.

Seriously. This is about game breaking for me. If I can't easily get into a game with my friends, I don't want to play.

WTH? That's stupid. Why would they design the game that way?

_______________________________________

I only played for an hour and a half, but so far I like what I see. Pleasantly surprised that I can hop right into a lobby on launch day and play a bunch of uninterrupted matches, even though my team lost every single one :bag: The maps seem to have pretty good variety. They do however seem a little dead with 12-on-12 or whatever the current console player count is. I notice a lot of people are running around COD-style, and I'm assuming that won't work as well when I migrate over to PS4 and the population density goes up.

So far I only played Conquest. Are the maps "bigger" on Rush? I remember in BC2 the maps were truncated for Conquest, and these maps seem like they'd be kind of on the small side for Rush. Then again I don't even know if that's a popular mode or not.

Seriously, this squads thing really grinds my gears. Maybe it's just not as much of an issue on the PC and new consoles because of the bigger servers?

Even so, it seems like EA/DICE doesn't understand their market for this game. Playing with a group is what makes the game great. Heck, it's what most of the game is designed around. To throw a wrench into that by not enabling people to squad up before entering a server is asanine.

I took back my PS3 copy of BF3 within 2 weeks because the chat system was totally broken which made teamwork impossible. EA refused to even acknowledge the issue and took 5 months to fix it. Once again they've broken a core part of the multiplayer experience and have yet to even acknowledge that it's missing or explain why it's missing. It's like they WANT people to flock to Call of Duty or other games. When you break one of the biggest selling points of your franchise, you're a special type of stupid.

What's amazing is that not one single review out there even mentions this. Crazy.

Oh, and we found out last night that the Commander is way OP. We played against a team that had one and we got slaughtered. They must have had a UAV covering about the whole map for the entire game. The other team knew exactly where all of us were the entire game. So yeah, if you're in a game with no Commander on your team and one of the other, you're probably in for a bad round.

XBL here. Logged in last night, installed the updates and the required 2GB file to the hard drive, then played around on the test range (you can try out vehicles and target practice for guns, etc.). Then went in to multiplayer. First attempt, it got to the "loading" screen and Xbox froze up. Had to power off the console and reboot it. No issues after that though, so maybe it needed a console reboot after installing the hard drive file (it only restarted the game, not the console, upon installation). Only played a couple of rounds, but it was good to be back on the Battlefield. Will update with more opinions after I get more playing time in.

When in the menus how do you work on your soldier from the my soldier screen? I was not able to choose different weapons and attachments from the menus unless I was in a match. Is this correct? (xbox & only level 3)

That's correct. Only in game or you can log in and do it through the website.

?????

Again, why would they do it this way? I thought it was pretty standard to be able to play around with your load-out from an out-of-game menu somewhere. This isn't the first time DICE has made an online game -- they have a wee bit of experience with this. These design decisions are inexplicable to me.

Wow this is really quite bad. Oh and I cant even figure out how to do it on their website.
