BTW--I'm sick of married chicks not wearing wedding rings.Ugh.
Sitting at Panera doing my FF draft.Cute chick is sitting near me at another table. She smiles, I smile back. I ask her something stupid to strike up a conversation. We talk for about 10 minutes before "her husband" comes up.She still keeps glancing over here occasionally, which makes this even less amusing to me.
How do you know it's her husband?

Came up in conversation, not physically come up.

I'm still trying to get the hang of this. It's weird how much the speed of moving off site varies depending on the girl. I've been messaging with the nurse for a week with no luck getting her to commit to a meeting.

Today I send a message to this chick and within minutes she's offering her phone number.

Since we're sharing messages, here's one for the "worked" bin...

Her profile had song lyrics that weren't familiar followed by:

So if you have gotten this far...who sings this song??? Look I know that we all have our "baggage"...it is what we do with it that matters. I think everything we go though can make us a better person if we choose to let it!! Anyway...I am a open book just like the song says...so ask away!!

First Date: Somewhere I can exit fast if need...lol!!!
I had no idea on the song, but I do have access to google. Message string:

Very funny and very true. Maybe we could meet at Sonic and stay in seperate cars.

So how many kids do you have? Ages?

Hope you're having a great weekend,

Stu

Oh yeah, and the correct answer is Blue October. Since you mentioned open book, I assumed it was an open book exam.

Nice, Well I am impressed to say the least!!! I will have to pull out the real Indie stuff for you!! My son(I only have 1) is almost 2 1/2 and he has a case the 2 1/2 year olds!!!!! God, if I make it through this year it will be good!!! LOL Sonic sounds good..i will have 2 keep that in mind as a date...instead of the old standby call from a friend saying her dog is dying and she needs you!!! Anyway, write me back!!
Subject: RE:ding..ding..ding Sent Date: 8/19/2007 3:34:07 PM

Indie is good... listening to Pinback right now. Much better than the popular band that ends in "back".

Yes, 2 1/2 can be interesting. I thought the terrible twos was a myth until he hit the halfway point. Good luck!

Thanks for the beer! We should get a real one though, I'm still thirsty.

Subject: RE:RE:RE:ding..ding..ding Sent Date: 8/19/2007 3:43:42 PM

Will do. What kind of schedule do you have with your son? Any chance you're free tonight?
Possibly coming on too strong, but she sounded very interested. So the shot needed taking.
Subject: RE:RE:RE:RE:ding..ding..ding Sent Date: 8/19/2007 3:50:11 PM

Good, that makes me feel better. Perhaps you can confirm for me that Nickleback and Daughtry are actually two different bands. :blackdot:

Blonde2 answered again...

I'm one level away from open communication with her...

YES!!

seriously this girl is hot and like... answers all these questions perfectly and everything...

I don't know if she's into video games, but I think I can deal with that....

:hot:

oh yeah...

as far as e-harmony's questions... I think I want to send these 2:

1. Describe an interest you have that you would truly hope your partner could share with you.

2. What is the one dream for your life you most look forward to having come true?

they sound good...

for the third one I'm thinking one of these:

Looking back on your life, of what are you most proud?

How big is your extended family? What are the holidays like for you and your family? (this was an issue with my ex, actually)

What do you most like to do on a day off?

so I'm thinking one of those...

what do you guys think??? Most of these questions are super super serious...

Larry, take a deep breath here. You're taking each of these iWimmins too seriously. Don't get too excited about the ones that respond, don't get too despondent about the ones that don't. You haven't even rounded the quarter pole yet, it's a long way home.
I'm 1/2 schticking in here, I'm really not this excited... some of it is massive hyperbole lolI also realize that most of these chicks are probably insane... lolI am not taking this as seriously as it sounds in the thread... for real... I'm not kidding!!

no thoughts on this guys?I think all 5 are really good questions, actually...I'm thinking I should ask 1, 2, & 4... The other 2 are things that, in theory, should come out easily in conversation, whereas 1, 2, & 4 might not...

The second one is good. The first one is good only if her profile doesn't already make that clear (i.e. if her profile is all about, for instance, video games  , why ask her about an interest she'd like to share?). I like the one about what you're most proud of in your life.

now that you say that... I'm sure her answer to 1 would be something about God... so it really doesn't make sense to ask that as I, essentially know the answer...so 2, 3, & 4? that makes sense to me...:mulls it over for a minute:

OK, just for larry I'm going to give courtesy replies a shot. I definitely have the time, I've just been worried about the "can't take no for an answer" people. To avoid any hint of mixed messages, I'm going with this...

I don't think we're a good match, but best of luck in your search.
This was also inspired by a nice one I got from a cute chick on yahoo today...
Hi. I've been in Dallas for a little over a month. I grew up in Southwest Oklahoma in a town called Granite. I really like Yahoo Personal. I've met a great guy that will hopefully become long term. How about you? Any luck? J
I think her reply was longer than my initial message, and she's not interested. Sweet girl. Seems like she'd make her profile unsearchable though if it was serious with the guy.

I'm usually more of a brunette fan, but apparently it's skinny blonde day at POF. Found this one about an hour ago.

Her profile was very brief:

I am looking for someone who loves to have a great time, can make me laugh and is able to laugh at themselves, doesn't smoke, and loves to travel. You MUST LOVE SPORTS (especially football) and must be at least as tall as me.

Drop me a line, if you meet my criteria. Can't wait to hear from you.
The way I saw it, I had no choice but to go the "shticky/cheesy" route (which is generally my first choice anyway).
Must love sports? This is part of your criteria? You're making it way too easy for guys to think they have a legitimate shot. ;-)

So what's your favorite football team?
My favorite team is the 49ers. Stop laughing...

I really liked your profile...kinda witty.
Thanks. Kinda witty is exactly the level of wit I was shooting for. Don't want to set the bar too high...

My team is the Packers, so I won't laugh about the 49ers. They're both aspiring toward mediocrity right now. Why the 49ers though? Are you from California?
Thoughts?

play on player...waiting for blonde2 to reply with an "open message" which is cool...

also another girl got to open messages, she's cool... ;)

larry boy is finally getting to play the game a little bit...

Try open ended questions. Instead of "Why the 49'ers though? Are you from California?" try "So how does a girl from (wherever you're from) end up being a 49'ers fan? Makes her tell a story.
Good point. Thanks.

this is a blowoff email, right? Or would you bother to follow up (guess it doesn't hurt)...

Hi <alias>,I like to be silly...life is better lived when you allow yourself to laugh out loud. Thanks for your email... I moved for a change, that is all really. I live way up on the island near the GW bridge.Wishing you the best on this site.Take care,RGL
No questions or invitations to reply, just a thanks and wish you the best, move along....

Wow the POF tank around here is rather empty. Finally on page 5 I saw a pic that was remotely interesting...onto to the profile...

Yo yo yo, was suuuuup! Hey guys! My name is Sally. I am new to dis site and wants to meet a rich happy guy with a really big house!

I would agree here. But hey why not have some fun. Send her a message that says RGL,Thank you for your wishes. I hope you have luck on here too. A good tip for you though would be to make these blow off emails a bit firmer. Otherwise your inbox is going to be full and you will get guys replying and continuing to try to talk to you. Next come the pedophile and stalker jokes, and next thing you know you have been Woz'd. Cheers,Alias

My POF tank is drying up, starting to realize there are A LOT of scammers out there, I think I have identified about 8 or so in less then a week. The reason I know they are scammers is they reply with their email address right away and format it in such a way that it would not get blocked (even though POF does not block email addresses). I still have 1 connection alive that I am interested in, probably had 3-4 others that I have fizzled on. Meaning I sent them an email, got a reply even chatted with some and then realized I did not want to pursue. The one I am still interested in had friends in from out of town last weekend and said she could meet up in a couple of days. I just noticed my yahoo profile was set to Not Searchable, not sure how that happened, so I opened that up. eHarmony is just going at a snails pace - the 1 hot chick I found through it finally closed the match after I sent her a nudge (which you can do after 7 days of inactivity on their part) - her reason was that she found someone else.

and 3 other girls are right before the message stage...

So Larry will, hopefully, actually have dates soon...

ALERT

Hot blonde chick just e-mailed me back. Here's the text of it (w. my initial email included):

Hey -

Did you know you're on 90 people's favorites list? That's pretty impressive! I just signed up myself, so, while growing expontially, mine is quite a bit less. Let me check it real quick... hmmm, still 0. Should start climbing any minute now... any... minute...

...

...

Still 0. Dammit. I guess that's only fitting for someone sitting here emailing someone on an i-dating site on Saturday night. Yup, I'm pretty cool alright. Might have something to do with that favorites meter begin stuck on 0.

Seriously though, I know what you mean about working hard and playing hard. I'm not in every Saturday night but sometimes you just gotta recharge the battery. I'm starting my 3rd year of law school in a couple days so I called it an early night. So, you told me to ask, so what do you do when you're playing hard and working hard?

Anyway, 90 is impressive. Hopefully, I stand out from the other 90 carbon copy boring emails you've gotten and I catch your interest and my favorite count might even change to 1. I promise that if we get that far, we won't go to a movie on our first date.

Take care,

Mike

Hello,

I didn't know I was on 90 peoples favorites. I have had lots of emails but I don't think I have responded back to more than 5 or 6 of them. So that's interesting. I see that you are up to 2 favorites today, good work  As far as working hard goes I like to have my life in order, get things done that need to be done and be stable as far as my finances go (which isn't far being a college student). Playing hard means going out with friends and having a great time and playing softball and when my finances allow I love to travel. There's also a middle ground between serious and crazy that I often find myself at that involves just hanging out with a friend, watching movies, reading etc. Law school is pretty impressive, how did you find yourself doing that? What do you like to do? Anything else you find yourself burning to ask me just send another email my way.

Emily

Nothing really struck me in the e-mail, but she could just be the sort of down-to-earth boring girl which for whatever reason I really dig. I don't know if I want to play up the shtick like we did in the first e-mail. Thoughts? Offers of actual texts? I'm open here - she's cute.

I would start off explaining a bit about law school, chicks often dig the law talkin guys...I would also hit the softball angle...You play baseball, etc...Maybe suggets the two of you hit up a batting cage or something...

woz - your initial email still sounds pretty negative and repetitive and a bit long, she did bite but still room for improvement. You do not have to play up subsequent emails, she took your bait, no reason to keep dumping chum in the water.

And when someone adds you as a favorite (no matter how hideous), just accept it, there was an option to remove myself from their favorites which I did because this woman was scary looking but I should have just left it there.

I wrote that email and I was drunk.ETA - but good point. Don't continue with the shtick. It was for hook baiting purposes only - not for getting her into the boat.

Okay, I've got about 13 match e-mails to fire off today.

Yippee. Not really looking forward to doing it, but I always hate the first e-mail.

Woz - Here my advice -

Play up the baseball/softball angle. That's huge for you. Mention that you play and coach.

Downplay the law school thing - do a little aww schucks - it's not that great, routine. Ask her what she's studying/ if she know what she wants to do. It's important to downplay to balance out the talking about yourself regarding baseball.

Ask her where she goes out. Ask her where she's travelled and where she'd like to travel.
