*****OFFICIAL FORMULA ONE GRAND PRIX THREAD***** (3 Viewers)

I hope they can pull this off, but its looking pretty floppish.

My favorite part of F1 is the drivers. I probably wouldn't be a fan without Netflix, but it makes it more interesting. I just love how these guys will just say what they're thinking and there no boiler plate speak to the media like in other sports. Max saying he felt like a clown at the opening ceremony was great.

And I'm just now seeing Sainz is getting a 10 spot grid penalty for having to repair the damage. WHAT?!?!?! They can't be serious.

I finished watching FP2 and in spite of all the chaos and bad juju I'm still optimistic about the race.

The track looks racier than I expected with a couple of potential overtaking zones--the left/right chicane at the end of the Strip should be entertaining and the high speed section that follows looks sensational. It was colder this morning than it's expected to be during the race and the tire warming fears didn't materialize. It's likely to be a soft tire race which will mean a two-stopper which is always better than tire management races where everyone is trying to stretch their stints.

It sucks for the fans who sat there for six hours only to be booted before FP2 but at least they could walk to Ellis Island for a $9.99 steak and eggs breakfast afterwards.

You can also watch the action via the Nevada Dept. of Transportation traffic cameras. The nightly conversion from public roads to race track is pretty interesting.

Lol so F1 is giving folks who had to tickets to Thursday a $200 voucher for the F1 store. No refund and no apology.

They sign that 10-year deal it could be a 10-year white elephant for them

The $200 voucher is honestly more than I expected from the race organizers. The vast majority of attendees have multi-day ticket packages and it was only FP1 and FP2. I doubt many people were outraged enough to dump their tickets and leave town early.

The long-term success of the event will depend a lot more on what happens in year 2 and 3 than on what happened on day 1.

Perhaps so but they need to nail these next two days...

Only if you had Thursday single day ticket. My 4-day ticket price now only gets me 2 days of racing instead of 3.

But how many people really just bought a Thursday ticket for FP1/2? Most had multi day tickets or would have been targeting Friday (Qualifying) and Saturday (Race) for single day tickets.

What is the deal with this schedule. Qualifying at 3am ET.....IN AMERICA!

Why do I keep thinking Ricky Bobby's nemesis Jean Girard is to blame for all these shenanigans. I can't even figure out when the actual race is on.

AND TURN OFF THAT JAZZ MUSIC!!!

Races are usually timed for eu audiences

I think Russell WINS this one. After Max and Chuck take each other out. Checo gets back in the top three finishers. He seemed to have as much or more pace than Max in reserve last night.

Which cameras have the race?
Never mind. I'm not up on my Vegas streets, but found Las Vegas Bld at Harrahs and it worked.
Thanks for the tip.

very fun race

That pass by Charles. : eggplant:
I thought it was a pretty great race. I hated Lando didn't qualify well then had to retire. I would have liked to see how much he could have clawed back.

Charles feels like such an underdog in all of this. That pass at the very end was completely unexpected. The announcers kept acting like Checo was just on cruise control, and honestly it seemed like it.

Despite the bumpy start to the weekend I thought the actual race was great. There have been some stinkers the last year or two and this was not one of them. I'd love to attend.

The four-part Brawn documentary on Hulu is very good. Keanu Reeves gives off heavy podcast bro vibes as the host but without his involvement, the project probably would never gotten off the ground. The filmmakers were able to line up an impressive list of interview subjects from Brawn, Button and Barrichello down to the team's fueler. Bernie Ecclestone's segments are a hoot as always.

2009 was the first year of new technical regs so there was bound to be some reshuffling of the order but something like the rise of Brawn GP will likely never be seen again.

I understand why they're locked into the weekend before Thanksgiving but it would be nice if track temps weren't such a big issue. They'd be able to get a few degrees back If they moved the sessions up by a few hours but I don't know if that would be worth the bother.

The FIA has been talking about phasing out tire warmers but I don't believe they were able to get support from enough teams to go forward. F1 cars leaving the pits on 60F rubber would be like baby giraffes taking their first steps.

I've heard nothing but good things about this documentary. Really looking forward to watching it. Just an unbelievable story.

I think I read somewhere that the Vegas GP had the 2nd most overtakes on the season so far. Definitely a fun race to watch once the tyres and track warmed up a bit. Watching them on cold tyres felt like we were just waiting on a disaster to take out half the field.

I would love to see Checo and Max swap cars just before the race starts. Checo's ride is never right.

Max would still be four tenths faster.
Probably, but I would still like to see it. That first race (or two?) of the year Checo was SO FAST. Then Red Bull messed with him and his car imo, he hasn't been right since.

Is this you PIK?
That was awkward

It was part of the 99% show

Quick turnaround for the finale at Yas Marina. FP1 starts 1:30AM PST. It'll mostly be a bunch of rookies running it as a test session and trying not to break anything.

Qualifying and race start times are in line with most of the European races.

The Buffer shtick is so old I wish it died with the WWF. Getting paid to yell people’s names :lmao:

I'll still follow the team because of Yuki (and the Faenza link back to Minardi) but the name change to Racing Bulls is BS.

Unless there's a unusually big points swing, Theo Porchaire should clinch the Formula 2 title in Abu Dhabi. It's been a ridiculous 2 1/2 months since F2 last raced at Monza so I'd forgotten how big his gap was.

It hardly matters because Porchaire is a Sauber academy driver and there's no room at the top for him. He'll likely end up as the fourth out of the last five F2 champs to not go to F1 (although de Vries and Piastri found their way there eventually).
