****OFFICIAL**** Green Bay Packers Draft Thread (1 Viewer)

the packers make some interesting trades:

pick #36 to NE (FLA WR chad jackson) for picks #52 & pick #75

WR javon walker to denver for pick #37

pick #37 to ATL (VT CB jimmy williams) for picks #????

WOW!
Terrible, just terrible.
Packers have lots of holes and need picks. This is a good deep draft to acquire alot of 2nd & 3rd round picks. Geez how can you complain before we even know who Thompson gets with these picks.

so i'm the only one who likes this combination of moves?

the packers have a ton of holes...and they are going to actually fill them now
At the expense and gamble of later picks rather than 2nd round picks.

they just traded away two players with first round talent for guys with 3rd or worse status. and on top of it lost their best receiver. the NE trade in particular makes no sense whatsoever. you trade away a 1st round receiver for 2 crappier picks....what's the point of that?

1- You take WR- Jackson. 2- You trade Walker for the very next pick.

3- You trade the very next pick to Atl for a couple of picks that will most likely be higher up than the 3rd they got in the NE deal.

Summary: You filled a hole at WR, and added a couple of higher draft picks to shore up holes vs. NO WR to fill that hole left by Walker leaving, AND you have a low pick from NE.

losing.

To think they couldve come out of these first 2 rounds with AJ Hawk, Chad Jackson, and Jimmy Williams. 3 frist round talents.
If Jackson & Williams were "first round talents" why weren't they taken the first round? I don't mind trading down. They have lots of holes to fill.

Let's see:

1. AJ Hawk, Jimmy Williams and Chad Jackson.

or.....

2. AJ Hawk, some later round throw turds against the wall and hope something sticks.

Bravo Ted Thompson. Better grab a classifieds and start checking the help wanted adds.

to those who wanted chad jackson...FLA WR always bust in the NFL

(except darrell jackson...who didn't go in the area that we just traded away from. he went much later)

Because teams draft for need.Big difference in filling 3 glaring holes with great talent and trying to fill a bunch of holes with mediocre talent.

Falcons Get

2nd round, No. 36: Jimmy Williams, CB, Virginia Tech

5th round, No. 139

Packers Get

2nd round, No. 47

3rd round, No. 93

5th round, No. 148

3rd round, No. 93

So they have 42 and 47 in the second round :wall:

what did we get from atlanta?
No doubt...ESPN's coverage completely sucks.I'm embarrased to be a Packer fan right now. Not because of the trades but because of the crying go on here. We don't even know who Thompson is going to take with all of these picks and it's nothing but a ##### fest going on here.

Now he can get a couple of offensive linemen, another LB and another WR. The Packers need bodies more than they need an overrated Chad Jackson.

in one respect you are correct - teams draft for need and good players will drop down the draft board. jimmy williams didn't drop due to this though...he dropped because he is a huge red flag because of his characterchad jackson dropped because he doesn't project well in the NFL to many general managers (including ted thompson..lol). speed without seperation and with questionable ability to get the ball in traffic

get off the ledge people :bye:

THe Packers need to get a GM who doesn't have his head up his ###.

The Packers don't seem to "need" DB so much right now so why should they draft DB Williams? 32 teams decided that whether based on need, speed, bench press, intelligence, whatever you want to quantify: it Jackson and Williams were not 1st round worthy. They are 2nd round players.

So is Driver next to be traded today? Maybe we can get a great 4th round pick for him. We'll have Gardner and Boerighter for starting WR's...look out NFC :wall:

I have no problems with the moves. Obviously the new regime wants to acquire their players. 15 years ago everyone said Jimmy Johnson was a genious for stock piling picks. Javon Walker forced his way out. They got what they could for a guy who was not going to play. Jackson is no sure thing. I am fine with adding picks and bringing in a lot of young talent to compete for spots. Tons of star players in the NFL are drafted in the spots those picks they got are at.

I don't think because Jackson went to UF means he'll be a bust. You mentioned Darrell Jackson and his success in the league, so that would lead me to believe that the whole FLA WR bust thing is pretty much rubbish now. Also, the same stigma applied to Penn State RBs and look how Larry Johnson turned out. Anyway, I believe it was more of a Spurrier system type thing rather than UF itself. Good get for the Pats.

Agree with you here. Stupid, Stupid move to stockpile 2nd and 3rds. Jimmy Johnson and Ron Wolf were complete idiots for using this startegy years ago!!!!TT is doing awesome right now. We have many holes, and he now has two 2s and 2 3's.

Let's see what Thompson does in the second and third rounds before we take him outside to have his ### kicked. Sound like a plan?

No one is a sure thing but I definitely would rather have 2nd rounders than 3rd rounders.

Law let's not go using logic here when analyzing this. Thompsons doing just fine. Adding Jackson at 36 still does nothing to help the OL and they need to draft a couple of those in the 2nd & 3rd rounds.

I'll stop bashing for now. I will wait and see how these picks pan out. Right now though, the jury is WAY out on this draft.

Maybe TT will want to grab LenDale White
trading for extra picks makes taking chances like that possible...and allowable if they don't work outtough to take that chance if you only have a single 2nd round pick...which is no longer an issue

Thompson totally owned by the Patriots. What a loser.
Under the commonly-used draft value chart, for what its worth, picks 52 (380 pts.) and 75 (215 pts.) are worth more than pick 36 (540 pts.). However, if you grade the draft on how sexy the picks look to fantasy football message board armchair GM's, I'm sure Chad Jackson will look better than the guys the Packers get with those picks.

Before you guys dog these trades, you should wait and see who the Packers select. Theres a LOT of talent still on the board.

Plus the fact that Walker will probably be a pro bowl WR in the near future. :hot:

:goodposting: CM = intelligent packer fan595 > 540

BTW I think Maurice Stovall is a much better fit for the west coast offense than Chad Jackson. Look for GB to snap him up with 1 of their 2nd rounders.

Packers end up with six picks in the top 100 (top 93 actually). Great savvy moves by Thompson in my opinion - hitting hard at what is considered the sweet spot of this draft.

We've got to be happy with a #37 for Walker - what did you guys expect?
